surely no one is trying to argue he hasn't spent an utter sh!tload on players?
He has spent a shitload, no doubt.

Some people just want to look at the financial number and not the number of players bought. He has brought in a shitload of players as well for that shit load of money. And as someone else has said, net spend is BS and Rawkish, he spent shit loads of money, accept it.

I still find it amusing that people believe it is wasted. I thought ADM was the real deal didn't work out, but I was buzzing when it happened. Risking Falcao, bloody good idea, again didn't work out. Shit happens, at least we haven't bought a bebe, bellion, kleberson, djemba-bjemba and so on. I think every player was an upgrade on what we let go. Sure some will disagree, only one surprising being a dud is Depay.

Even though we didn't quite get the win, we were unfortunate not to, and I thought we played well last night. In fact, to me, it looked like Van Gaal had said to the players "look, forget my philosophy and all those tactics, just go out there and do what you want"

What the hell? You genuinely believe he told the players to forget everything he's tried to implement since taking over as manager? You think he just said forget I'm even here and manage yourselves, yet he won't quit or we won't sack him? Think about it logically, why would we even be paying him:lol:

I think more making the point that while rivals are spending more on the top players we are unlikely to be as good as them. Most of the money spent was on building the squad, but we need to be as ambitious as rivals when signing the star players now, like ADM, and hopefully next time it works out

I'm convinced we've bid in excess of £50m numourous times over the last few windows on players like Bale and Muller for sure. No doubt at all that we've been waving the cash at Ronny, Neymar and Robben too if they ever fancy playing here. Just because we've so far been unable to attract the top tier of players doesn't mean we haven't tried spend money. City aimed below the worlds best on Sterling and De Bruyne and actually got them.

I don't think any of his signings in the summer weren't good work. Remember the raving about finally sorting centre mid out?

He did leave us super light up front though clearly, and added to the playing style it's been dour beyond words.

Any manager coming in would look to sort the Rooney/Mata situation out immediately, ideally by buying better players for both positions. And take the heat off Martial

What's the net spend per player at the likes of Tottenham, Leicester, Arsenal, Palace and Watford - clubs currently either pissing all over us from a great height or nestling side by side with us ?
Google net transfer spend for the last 3 windows. You will find ours amongst the lowest due to us buying as much as we've sold. The notion that we have some how blown a fortune of £250m is plain agenda driven bs.

I think he knew if he signed a good striker then he would be under pressure if he was still using long balls to Fellaini up front. That's his favourite tactic.

yeah possibly true, just shows that we need to make something happen as we are lacking a match winner, even of de bruyne quality

Have to say it again, How awful are chelsea though. Holy shit, beggars belief.

The performance certainly doesn't match the names on the page.
Although I was one of the few who didn't think they had that special a team last year.

Still think it's slightly wrong to act as if they're in a true position. They aren;t a relegation battler!

... for which Mourinho has to shoulder the majority of the blame. We need to be careful what we wish for (hiring Mourinho), looking at very short term success. Especially given that we don't even have a background football structure (a DoF basically).

"Net spend per player" is actually a useful metric to assess our transfer policy, but it doesn't tell you everything you need to know.

What you need to know, which everyone here knows, is that LVG left us too light up front: Martial is only scoring threat.

I'm firmly in the "LVG Out!" camp but you can see why Louis felt he had enough scoring firepower on the squad the day after he signed Martial. Memphis had just come off a great season and of course Rooney's time had finally come, at least in theory. And Fellaini was always good for a Plan B option. And Mata would score his customary 5-8 goals. In short, the last thing he worried about was scoring goals. What he worried about is whether our back line would hold up.

Instead, our back line has held up well but we've been shambolic in our finishing.

Our play in the final third of the pitch would not be acceptable for a pub team. The rest was decent enough. DDG saved our asses again, when we lose him during the summer we are going to be in serious trouble.

This is my big worry.
DDG is our only true star player. A galactico in every sense. If he leaves, then we will be losing more points.
If you replace DDG and if we still can't score a goal (ie. the same problem we have now), getting a top 10 finish will prove difficult.
What's galling is that Rooney got the MOTM award in our last game, which was shocking.

Without DDG, as bad as Chelsea were, I think they'd have beaten us.

You sound surprised! LVG, Gigs and all your playing staff should be sacked for not beating us.

Probably the worst performance I've seen of every team this season. No idea how we didn't win. Chelsea literally looked like they couldn't be bothered.

There are some people arguing exactly that.
I think it was mentioned about £12M per player, which is cheap.
Something a long those lines.

LVG and OT are looking at Europa and FA Cup for silver.

We can't win Cups, by drawing every game.
As we saw against Middlesborough in the League Cup, we are terrible at penalties, so hoping for a 0-0 scoreline and then going to penalties is not a strategy which works for us.
Whatever happens, relying on 0-0 scorelines cannot be our grand/master plan.

Bingo. Our attack has killed us all season long. Going into this season, at the start of the season the worry was Rooney and Mata getting injured. Not struggling to score goals. We create enough good chances to kill off most teams regularly. We just dont take them

as inefficient in front of goal as we were chelsea were so terrible, the worst chelsea side I've ever seen us face. if they were up against arsenal or city they would've been smashed by at least 5 goals.

He left the biggest mess of them all in Barca's second spell. They basically needed to sell 2/3 of the team to become again competitive.
And look where Barca is now. Being optimistic. :D

Technically, we could have scored 4 as well of you count Mata, Martial, Herrera and Rooney's chances. Granted they'd have gotten 1 or 2 back as well. Just saying. Sometimes they go in, sometimes they don't. We need a striker though and a winger while we're at it.

Why don't we just recall Adnan and Wilson back from loan? We could definitely use Adnan's skill and ability to beat a man on the flanks and Wilson's finishing would be a huge improvement on anything Rooney has done this season.

The only thing that was embarrassing about yesterday was those morons who came with the Special One scarfs and who put out posters demanding Jose to come in. Behaving like those mob from Madrid.

Absolutely, I was hoping the Mourinho scarfs were an unfunny joke but apparently not.

Spot on, given the younger players that van Gaal has given a chance in the team to it seems crazy these two are missing out when we could do with them. Even if they weren't going to get too much game time I would have thought van Gaal would have wanted them around to train with the first team and learn this philosophy that is working out so well for us.

It was a better performance because it was closer to our best starting 11 which we haven't had for a while. Unfortunately even our best 11 is poor in the ST, RW, LB and RB postions which is where much of our problems in attack lie.

Didn't they beat Arsenal?
which was before their extended run of poor form and probably the best game they had this season. and arsenal played with 10 men for the second half.

the side that turned up yesterday against us was pretty much broken.

Didn't they beat Arsenal?

If the officiating was spot-on then Chelsea would have played with 10 men, and not us. The outcome would have been very different (not saying we would have won however, but we wouldn't have lost).

Januzaj would be great. I ain't buying the Wilson hype yet. For me, he'll never be United quality. Another glorified Welbeck.

I'd love to be proved wrong but I don't see him leading our line. Ever.

Would he be worse than Rooney though?

Rooney really has been unbelievably awful. He genuinely looks drunk whenever he plays.

I reckon Wilson could achieve the level of not looking drunk.

If we're relying on the likes of Januzaj and Wilson to significantly improve us then we really are in serious decline. With the TV money coming into the Premier League we should be looking to pick the best of the top European leagues not a player who can hardly get into the Dortmund team or a player who is hardly setting the Championship alight! We should be going for the likes of Muller and Lewandowski.

Obi Mikel: Man United too ‘scared’ to attack

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has used words like ‘hesitant’, ‘sceptical’, ‘cautious’ and ‘scared’ to describe Manchester United’s approach in Monday’s 0-0 draw.

United had just two shots on target at Old Trafford, though they did hit the woodwork twice through Juan Mata and Anthony Martial.

“I think sometimes you could see in the game that they had chances to attack, but were a little bit sceptical, or hesitant,” said the Nigerian midfielder.

“Maybe they were a little bit scared. They were playing not to lose as well. Because of the fast players we have up front who can break they were cautious, and approached the game not to lose.

“Both teams are not in the right place right now to attack, attack, attack, attack. Sometimes you have to be smart and settle for a point.”

United have scored just 10 goals in their last 14 games.

Sure, we could've scored 4. But we didn't, as per usual.
We could've won the last 8 games and be sitting top of the league and CL group. But we didn't.Just saying.

Sometimes they go in, sometimes they don't.

In our case, they rarely go in.
1 goal per game, if we are very lucky, is the expectation.

We need a striker though and a winger while we're at it.

We need an entirely new front 4. Martial, who is our best attacker, at his age, should be coming off the bench as an impact sub, while senior (better players), should be in our first team.
Martial is great for his age, but is not good enough to be our main striker yet.
Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Rooney (in his prime), RVP, Tevez, Yorke, etc - these were strikers for MUFC, who if available to us, would force Martial to be benched.

As for Rooney - when pundits award him MOTM when he could not score a goal (even though that is his job), meanwhile DDG is the actually saving goals and he hands MOTM award - this situation makes me mad. If Rooney took a dump on the pitch, the press would probably clap and say how beautiful that was.
Wayne "2 league goals" Rooney. Does he have no shame?

I ended up getting into a lift with Oscar, Loftus Cheek and Kenedy at the Radisson just before the United - Chelsea game on Monday. I didn't really look to see who they were and only realised when I got out. They were wearing full Chelsea tracksuits, but I assumed that they were just standard Chelsea fans/full kit wankers (a reasonable mistake).

Ha! How the feck did you manage that?

Also, I just watched Hazards highlights for the game:

Honestly, your tactic of hacking him to bits was absolutely ridiculous looking back.
