FA L FA Cup Final

Chelsea 1:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Worst FA Cup final I've ever watched. Two shit teams.

Our players are unbelievably shit. As soon as I saw both Lingard and Rashford starting I knew we'd lose. They are not good enough for United.

Awful , dreadful, dull, boring, unimaginative, one dimensionalal, defensive , sad, crap , do any of you remember when we used to be Manchester United ?

Poor 1st half, better 2nd but still not good enough to beat a piss poor Chelsea. If we won the cup with 7 defenders for 90 mins press would be all over us. Poor finishing poor in front of goal..ohh and Chelsea had hazard that was the difference..hope the board get some class in ..or it's another also ran season coming up.

This is exactly why the whole season has been good and bad day swings. When we setup wrong or start badly there is no coming back

We started poorly against Spurs(FA cup) and won. In the league games, we started poorly against Chelsea, Man City, etc and still won.

It’s hard to blame the manager on what happened on the pitch. Did Jose instruct Rashford to scoff the shot at the death in the first half? Did Jose tell Rashford not to score 1 v 1 against Courtois in the 2nd half?

Sometimes, the players ought to take responsibility. Rashford was wank tonight. That is not on Jose. That’s on Marcus. Please, let’s apportion blame to those who deserve them.

Ironically we could've done with Fellaini in the last few mins, especially if that header fell to him rather than Pogba/Matic.

Lots of over reaction on here which is understandable after a cup final defeat but we were by far the better team, just didn’t have those breaks on the day.

Sure but that's only cuz the other team is also terrible.

My point is being better than Chelsea is no real consolation. For the last month or so in general we have been as bad as them.

Ive only just cooled down enough to write this, that was a disgraceful match and summed up our woes for the year, but lets move on. Not worth disecting now, its gone.

Lets trust in Jose to get a proper transfer window sorted (a proper RB and LB, a good CM and a RW) and lets push on.

Fcuk Chelsea.

Has there been post match interview from Mourinho or has he been sacked instead?

I really don't know, but i think Mou has to take a lot of the blame. Just want to see how Mourinho does with 4-5 new signings next season, as i still see plenty of weaknesses to address in the squad. We have had 3 managers since SAF, i just want to stick with someone and see where it goes. At least he usually buys top shelf players, so it can't go all wrong, even if we have to suffer some boring football.
He has to realise you cannot rely on over 30 year old fullbacks and insist on giving them the ball as your outlet all the time. He needs to replace both of them, because Young is hit and miss and Valencia either hits the first man or more often than not hits the ball back to whenst it came. I hope I never see Jones again. Those mistakes happen too often with him.

Exactly how I expected it to be honest. Start off slow and defensive, go behind and then have ago. Unfortunately no goal this time.

I enjoyed the royal wedding more!!!!

It really is just as bad (style wise). We are a god awful team to watch under Mourinho.

Can anyone honestly see him adopting a different approach next season?

One fecking goal in our last four games. fecking dreadful!

That's a laughable stat - albeit not remotely surprising.

And apparently replacing Phil Jones is the priority.

It's already an 'also ran,' season coming up!

Do you think watching that, Pep is going to be worried? They'll be strengthening again while we'll no doubt start with Valencia and Young

Not gonna read back as i'm tooooo friggin depressed at the minute, but no doubt Phil Jones will be getting all the grief, and yet Ander Herrera, the worst midfielder i've seen at United since the early 70's will get a pass, despite the fact the player he was designated to mark(there was no other footballing reason for him to be on the pitch) ran from the half-way line to score.

This was different to 2005, that day we were on the front foot from the start and had a lot more chances (hit the post a couple of times, balls of the line and more saves by Lehmann). Today we weren't at it for 40 minutes and then we got shithoused by a team who had a lead to protect which is ironic given that it was pretty much Mourinho's dream performance by them. His tactic of not trusting that he had a better team (which he does) also backfired because we had Herrera completely out of position rather than as part of a 3 trying to boss their midfield and yet the man he was meant to man-mark still decided the game so it hindered us and didn't stop them.
As soon as the penalty went in he should have move Herrera back to his normal position, not carry on marking Hazard. He does not react to situations quickly enough as a manager.

Apart from Jones's mistakes. Chelsea is not worse than United.

I still don’t see it as jones mistake hazard was brilliant his touch, the way he positioned his body, the way he took it across jones was just brilliant play

We do not have a player who would have capitalized on a similar error today

That one moment of class from hazard was the difference between the teams

But he did start him.He does pick the team and decide tactics.
What was ours? Get into attacking positions and pass the ball back...a 100 times?

That's a laughable stat - albeit not remotely surprising.

If we sign another 70 million's worth of centre-backs for the bench, we'll start scoring goals for sure.

This result was not down to Jones
The result was down to us setting up not to lose rather than setting up to win

Now please will with everyone stop over rating rashford and realise he is not as good as we all hope he will be

Decent match. Controlled the pitch. But Lingard and Rashford just can't compete with the likes of Hazard.

Simple, really...

Has there been post match interview from Mourinho or has he been sacked instead?

There was a post-match, he was half gracious but noted if he was negative as Chelsea were in the second half journalists would have a field day.

No, there's a player there, a very talented one. He's been badly managed this season and the shit he got after Brighton was undeserved and has affected his confidence. It's piss poor management from Jose

Overall, the team really didn't deserve to lose and had the better chances but the attacking play really is poor. The movement in the final third is just awful.

There was one really dangerous break in the second half. Pogba was driving forward with 3 players in support on either side. All 3 ran directly in front of him giving him no options to pass and dragging defenders in who ended up blocking his shot.

That sort of thing happens far too often.

Jose is dissapointed for the boys gave everything for a trophy this season but didnt get anything, he feel the best team lost FA cup

Takeaways:

(1) Jones messed up with three misjudgements - firstly in letting Hazard the wrong side, second making a tackle where he didn't need to, and thirdly in making the tackle and then missing the ball. They were all individually quite easy mistakes to make, in fairness, against a world class player but it would have been nice if he'd got one of the three right. It doesn't make him an awful player though.

(2) Playing endless square balls is not unpicking the opposition, it's just a waste of time.

(3) Rashford is not a centre forward yet. A loan period would be a good idea.

(4) Young and Valencia aren't good enough and need to be replaced.

(5) We need an attacking coach because the players don't have a big clue what to do as a unit in the final third.

(6) It was a sh#t game because of both teams, not just us.
