Good result considering the team we had available, might not have been the best to watch, at a lot of points in that game we were poor but its the result that matters.

Yeah usually I would be moaning about the performance but the result was more important after no win since the opening day

Good result, get players back now , get Pogba martial shaw dalot fit in the next week hopefully, maybe a positive redcafe for a change huh, that would be nice im sick of the negativity around here

I quite liked that little kerfuffle at the end there, we had 4/5 academy lads getting stuck in and backing each other up

I think people need to realise Andreas for what he is, a good pacy worker bee who is good at pressing...
I don't agree with the "pacy" part. I bet Mata is the only one in the squad who's slower than Pereira. But, yeah, he puts a lot of effort in, which, I suppose, almost makes up for the fact that he's not very good... but not really.

Soyuncu looks like that Joker character from the upcoming Joker movie

Fair assessment. I'm by no means saying Lindelof is crap. Just that with our revamped defence, he actually went from being our best defender to being potentially the odd man out.

I noticed the change that Maguire made in picking up behind Lindelof. But that one saving header he had was a direct result of yet another missed header by Lindelof, if my memory serves me correctly. I just yearn for the day when both our centrebacks can clear that type of ball first man. Which is why I think Axel would be the better option, but of course he isn't "premier league proven". However, if Dan James can come in with such an impact, I don't see why Axel can't do the same. Villa were promoted with him being an integral part of the team and he drew rave reviews.

Its definitely encouraging that we finally kept the clean sheet we deserved and that the defence is shaping up nicely. I might be biased towards our homegrown lads but I hope Axel eventually takes Victor's place and partners Maguire in the long term. For me he is just much more imposing and confident, which suits the premier league.

Yeah fair point. I think with James it's partly because we've had little choice due to our lack of forward options. Plus he has been very good...a lot better than what we could reasonably have expected from him straight away.

I'm all for giving Axel a chance, but I think to start with it'll be in the cup games. At some point we'll pick up an injury or two and that's when we see if he can step up. He wouldn't be part of the squad if Ole didn't think he was up to being given the chance.

The thing is, for all the negative shite on here, we are two missed penalties away from probably being 2nd. We'd have 3 clean sheets from 5 if it wasn't for a wonder goal. We've looked the better team in every game so far. Today you could say it's arguable but Leicester didn't look like scoring. We had Maguire and McTominay noticable stand up as leaders/characters in the second half. Those are two things we didn't have this time last year. THis time last year we were being easily outplayed by Brighton and completely mugged in our own ground by Spurs. Think we had more points but the fixtures were easier and the performances were a LOT worse.

I really don't understand your comments to my posts. Are you trying to be funny or you are trying to be condescending? I am angry.
I thought you were on a windup because your initial post was imo ridiculous. I gave you the benefit of the doubt....

Turns out I was wrong. That's all...

Solskjaer was being criticized earlier in the week for strengthening the defense instead of the midfield. That clean sheet today is what won us the game though. If we can string a few clean sheets together in a row, we could do ok (though obviously we aren't getting near the title).

The other thing that stood out for me is that Pereira is ill suited to the right wing. He can maybe be a substitute in one of the forward/central midfield roles, but he's truly awful on the right.

After today's performance I think this is our best team for the next game will be:

------------------De Gea----------------
AWB----Lindelof------Maguire-----Young
--------Mctominay---Fred/Matic------------
----------------Pogba-------------
Rashford----------------------James-----
---------------Martial--------------

Honestly looking at it, I don't think this is a horrible team. It's one that (perhaps with a little luck) could get us into the top four.

Only watched the 2nd half. We looked a bit better after Chong and Fred replaced Mata and Matic. Team were pressing higher, moving ball better.
Not sure what Perreira did all 2nd half.

Gomes needs to be in for Mata..
Lindelöf tried his best to give Leicester a goal in the first half, he has one major mistake in him in every game. McT was very good.
3 points and we move onwards. Hope OLE gets to finish his build here, AWB, Maguire and James look proper players.

Are you saying my post unreasonable after sh1ting my pants until last minute against Leicester at home? No disrespect to Leicester but it freaking felt like watching better team losing and trying to get an equalizer.

A win is a win and that is all that matters. Considering how many injuries we had to key players like Shaw, Pogba & Martial this is a massive win against a good, strong Leicester side.

Yes the performance was below par but result was more important than performance today for me.

I gave AWB motm. Game after game he is phenomenal. Totally shut them down on right. Great contribution.

Great to get the 3 points here regardless of the lack of creativity. A few ground out 1 nils wouldn't be the worst thing for a while, at least we'd rake in a few points. Probably better that Pogba didn't play today as it was the sort of game where he would have been been caught on the ball too often and we had enough dawdlers out there.

The state of the caf is disgusting to be honest.

When we lose, sack Ole.
When we draw, season is over.
When we win, boring.
When we win 4-0, luck.

We've been really unlucky for the past 3 games, we needed to get that 3 points first. Today is the day.

Under Fergie there were dull games like these, I couldn't even bothered. At least this wasn't as bad as LVG's boring football.

We won after international break, ugly or not, its the 3 points what matters.

Yeah there have been times where we have dropped silly points on the back of an international break, need to be careful we don't suffer a europa league hangover next Sunday.

He was an absolutely sight for sore eyes on the team sheet after the injury rumours.
I don't even want to think about who'd have been in otherwise.

I feel like I'm the only one who was happy with that.

Yes, we struggled to create, but that happens sometimes.

What I find really heartening is that the win didn't feel even a tiny bit lucky. Leicester didn't have a sniff. In fact, aside from a couple of individual lapses in concentration, you could say the same about all of our games this season. For the first time since Fergie, I actually feel like we can see out a 1-0 lead.

It looks like Ole has created a well-oiled machine, albeit one that lacks a few bells and whistle and the moment. That's the next step in our evolution. You can't expect to go from 0 to 60 in a single transfer window.

Presumably we'll go heavy on the rotation, so less of an issue.
Being a home game helps as well.

I think any reasonable United fans is very happy with it.
Limited them, took our chance and saw it out - all without the key two players going forward and also Shaw and dare I even say Lingard.

EDITED to change the last line to make it clear I'm not considering Shaw and Lingard THE two key players!

A win today which was due to hard work and effort - particularly the MF, poor as Matic and Pereira appeared at times when trying to do the creative stuff.

Not saying we wouldn't have won with our World Class player, and a sprinkling of Hollywood passes into space for someone to run on to, but I'm fairly sure we wouldn't have seen the same amount of hard work and effort which, at the end of the day, got us the points this afternoon.

Why do we struggle with high bouncing long balls, happened today when maddison nearly scored at 0-0 when lindelof and Maguire misjudged the the header, it cost us a goal against crystal palace and should be a simple thing to handle.

If people are expecting us to be consistently at the same level as City that’s on them. The point was that even City, who are several levels above us, struggled against this very decent Leicester side. Negativity is fair but maybe not after beating Leicester given the injuries?
But you're the one comparing us to City. All I'm saying is I expect United to be able to put out a better performance than that, and if that needs a better squad then complaints about our squad are acceptable.

I thought Fred was actually decent when he came on. Looked lively.

Midfield is a big issue for us though. I wonder whether Pogba - Mctominay - Fred midfield would actually be best for us. I can't see how Andreas, Lingard or Matic deserve to be the third midfielder.

I would go with that 3 in midfield as well, they are the best midfield trio we can field as Fred and McTominay cover plenty of ground and it allows Pogba more attacking freedom as opposed to using him in the deeper role.

If we are not going to take cold comfort from the games we should win, but don't, then I see no reason not to be happy with this win. That being said, it was a pretty uninspiring performance. I thought McTominay, Maguire, Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka looked good. I also thought James looked dangerous. Matic and Pereira were dire, and Mata was doing his best Lingard impression.

Yes, agreed. Some people said it was boring?

I'm a United fan, seeing a gritty performance like that and seeing us holding on is entertaining as winning 3-0.

It's not like the players doesn't give a feck about trying to score, they did and it was a difficult game.

I'm just disappointed with the caf.

I’ve realised it’s better to visit the caf a day after a game. Most of the immediate disappointment settles down and people generally get more objective. Nothing to be disappointed about.

Most posters here are United fans! They just have different expectations from this season. I only want to enjoy the progress Ole is making, and am hoping that he can get the right results over the season to keep his job. He will need at least one more summer to put together his team, and I want him to keep making progress with this squad.

He makes me feel like he knows what he is doing, and has a touch of class about the way he handles sticky situations. His tactics so far have been good, and I really want to see him bring a title to the club. It’s early days and he is also learning, but the upside has a BIG payoff.

What makes me happiest about today’s result is the 3 points. I don’t mind another 2-3 of these over the coming weeks.

We were our usual, toothless selfs today. Luckily to win in the end, because there are so many holes in this team.

What utter crap!

Vardy and Rashford were pretty much nullified. One took his chance and scored, the other was well marshalled.

I'm off. Posts like these when we win, make me depressed

I said that the absence of the pair of them playing together diminishes the other attackers, this is because they carry a collective threat where each has the pace to cause problems, opening up space for others. You should read more carefully.
"the absence of one of him and Martial"

Where was Pogba today? Dropped or injured?

I think you are being unfair on Andreas. He was much better than Lingard and Mata were so far this season. I thought he did well.

All of a sudden, it's the win that matters.
When the previous manager was getting the results with Fellaini's last minute headers, the complaint was about not playing the United way.

The standards have dropped massively.

Whatever performance, just glad we got the 3 points. Top 4 is literally up for grabs this season in my opinion - then to be fair it was last season to. Might even be the lowest point total for 4th place ever. Still worried we'll lose out due to lack of quality in depth though. And still pissed that 4th is our goal (and that most supporters seem content with that now), but I guess that's what we've become. Wonder how many years we're gonna call it a transition phase this time.

I quite liked that little kerfuffle at the end there, we had 4/5 academy lads getting stuck in and backing each other up
If only our academy lad is better at teamwork regarding set-plays and attacking pattern, instead of those brawling. Those may look cool but never as cool as a goal. I'd rather our youngsters playing football better instead of playing tough guys but with no end-product.

It was the same before but people just got tired of it because the manager didn't change (parking the bus vs lower table teams then lumping it to the tree). Same thing will happen with Ole unless he changes it, nothing to do with standards.

Glad of the 3 points. Went or 2-1 but thought 1-0 was also likely.

Hopefully Martial is back soon. It's worrying we couldn't get a goal from open play and conceded possession but we're desperate for 3 points to build on.
