Ferguson used to do exactly the same as Mourinho did yesterday in the games at Anfield in the games when Liverpool had a decent side. Think O'Shea and Floran.

It is a shameful result and to make it more embarrassing was the fact that we had not even got a midfielder on the bench to compete with there 3 midfielders.

This is where the game was lost, and it was Mourinho's responsibility to make sure that we had at least 1 midfielder on the bench so as to change our game play and compete with them in the engine room. Excuses after the game do not cut it.

You better give Roberto Martinez a ring and bend his ear.

I thought we drew?

The way I see it is, if we are really wanting to win the Premiership, we will not do so by parking the bus every time we go away to a top 6 side. This is my opinion.

Just move on from this game. Liverpool lose points for fun. We do it tactically

It was our first real test. We came away with a valuable point with a very negative performance that didn't make anyone happy, I'm sure including Mourinho. I'd be very surprised if we played exactly the same way against the other big sides since if we do, I can only think Mourinho has lost belief in a number of our players.

We were set up for the counter hence neither Blind or Mata playing, but the fatal flaw in this plan was lacking a Fellaini or Pogba to move with the ball quickly in midfield.

Perhaps Mikki was meant to play this role but he was pish yesterday.

he had no belief in our midfield

I blame Mourigno. Young and Valencia on the same side? Miki never got a ball through the center. Most likely planned by Jose. Played a chicken again.
We will finish 2nd. Based case scenario. He would 9 defenders and young up top against city if he could.

Yes, We got a point but I really think that they were there for the taken had we came at them instead of the Parking the bus method. I'm just annoyed mate, especially because of who it was. I just hope you are right, but Mourinho tends to do this time and again against the top 6 sides. @togg

We best not set out like that against city. They will score 5 at least.

Well, we are up against Spurs and Man city very soon, who I believer are bigger tests than Liverpool, so at least we will know early in the season if we have to adjust our expectations!!

A draw at Anfield is 'shameful'?

And how is the fact that we have Midfield players out injured 'embarrassing'?

Can't work out whether this is a joke or not?

Liverpool are not the force they were anymore, and why would you not expect to WIN here. As regards to players out injured, I never said it was embarrassing because they were out. We should have had cover on the bench for midfield.

Why have Scott McTominay in the squad if he is not good enough for even the bench when we have all our midfielders out. Mourinho knew that Liverpool would put 3 in midfield when he knew of all our injuries in this department. And NO it is not a joke. I for one think that we could have taken Liverpool if we had attacked them instead of sitting back. So YES I would say we lost 2 points. My Opinion @Rusholme Ruffian

 Sometimes it's hard to say who's being serious and who isn't in these threads.

Looking at the responses one would think we got battered 3:0 at least. Liverpool are a good side, SAF used to play like this at Anfield all the time. City scoring 5 against us based on this game is not how football really works.

All if and buts...

Had Mourinho played an expansive game and lost he would have been accused of the opposite. Mourinho is a calculated coach, you could say he has a chess players mentality and will work out the teams needs over the season.

How other teams play against Liverpool is different and does not equate when playing United. The historical rivalry lifts their game and atmosphere to a different level. They even organised opening the Dalglish Stand for this game to pump up the players and fans.

Don't entirely disagree but in both the cases you mentioned we were up against better Liverpool sides and offered much more. Fergie would sit deep at Anfield but we were almost always guaranteed a few gilt edged chances. We were simply never going to score yesterday, particularly in the second half. Our injuries across the squad really didn't help us but I have a horrible feeling that this just provides Jose with the excuse he needs. I can't see him ever going to places like Anfield and not playing that way, irregardless of his match squad. Totally support him (obviously, and not in anyway in question) and have been pleasantly surprised by our football on the whole, but these types of performances are just something we're going to have to get used to away at the bigger teams.

If you take city's ridiculous start to the season to one side, we have made a solid start to the season.
Whilst I would love us to win the PL, the start is to be competitive in it first. That includes going long in the CL too.

We have a solid team but we still short in a couple of positions and another world class forward player that can turn this type of game into a win. Let's be honest, there were a few of them where Ronaldo was the difference.....

You said it was a 'shameful' result. I could understand if you described the performance as shameful (although I'd disagree), but surely not the result? Liverpool's record against the top 6 is phenomenal.

You think it's embarrassing that we didn't play McTominay at Anfield? I'd say it was sensible, but each to their own.

We are not the force we once were and Liverpool finished above us last season. Why would we expect to win?

Keeping the gap to 7 points with one of our competitors for European places is a job well done. We should think about our title credentials in April.

Spot on

It's a fine line playing youngsters for big games. If they get destroyed it could potentially affect their careers to a massive degree.

I've no problem setting up to play on the break or contain - it's not like we're doing it every week. If we'd been expansive and got thumped like Arsenal then Jose would probably be called out for being tactically naive.

What was most disappointing was how poor we were on the ball when we did have possession. There was literally only Matic that showed any composure and he was far from perfect.

Really poor performance but a good point.

I think people confuse games were utd were under a lot of pressure but pulled off a win to going into a game with the sole intention of getting a 0-0

1. It was a " Shameful' result in that we had only 1 shot on target in the whole game. We sat back.

2. I never said it was embarrassing that we didn't play McTominay. I said if he is good enough for the squad he should be good enough to play. We needed another midfielder to match there 3 in midfield no matter who it was. Matic and especially Herrera, got run over.

Exactly, but we lost 2 points by parking the bus. Do you honestly think that we can go and win the Premiership by parking the bus every time we go away to the top 6 sides @Tapori ..

Yes, if we win our other games well.
We parked the bus against Barca in a CL semi-final and have routinely done so in big games under Fergie post Quieroz.

It's not pretty I'll admit.

A game we should have lost.

Small compensation for some of the countless games we should have won last season.

You said it was embarrassing that we didn't have a midfielder on the bench, but that midfielder could only have been McTominay due to injuries. So if Mourinho judged that being chucked into a game at Anfield was too much for McTominay at this stage in his career then there was no other option. Seems a strange thing to describe as embarrassing.

The fecking midfield never got ahold of the ball. Never did they run with the ball. Never did they create anything. Where the feck were Herrera and Mhki. Pogba will be such a big miss in the big games.

Rarely did Martial/Lukaku even get a chance to pick up proper positions, nor did we have time to create supporting runs for them.

I certainly do not think that we should have lost this game. Liverpool had 1 real chance. We had 1 real chance. We could have had a lot more chances had we not sat back.
