Missed Pogba.

with Pogba we win that game IMO
No we would not and let's remember it's his indisipiline that meant he was not playing . Pogba is a luxury prancer and this team needs fighters like Keane or Robsonof old who cared about the club not how many millions they recieved d or how good the local hairdresser is . It also needs to be sold by those vultures from the USA and about 1 billion spent on players worthy of a club with a worldwide reputation

Honestly believe Pogba would have been the difference today. With him we’re equal to City in quality and would have won the game. Without him we’re not and we didn’t.

Can't complain about the tactics, but we really should have hurt them more on the counter attack. Careless giving away possession is like asking for trouble against that lot. Even so we shot ourselves in the foot twice with failed clearances.
4 at the back was overly ambitious even if we're at home, we were set up to attack but failedd miserably

The game went about as expected, with City having most possession and us playing long balls. The goals were all from defensive mistakes, really annoying that City were not even that good, we just are poor in our attacking play apart from playing long pointless balls.

Title race over? Possibly. Better team won, can’t remember the last time I saw a team just totally outplay us in the 1st half since well City last year.

As good as they were, it did come down to margins. We lost this game on two defensive errors by Lukaku, and not doing better with the chances we got, again looking at Lukaku.

A game like this relies so much in your Striker to win aerial duels, runs, 1vs1. Lukaku never won anything against Otamendi or Mangala. Totally nullified. He's in a very bad shape doing that kind of work, I hope he can improve himself.

I think United miss Pogba so much, needs quality in the midfield to overpass the pressure that teams like City shows.

We showed them far too much respect in the first half allowing them time on the ball. I expected more in the 2nd half after the equaliser but all game we went direct and kept giving them the ball back. I'm not being funny but if the side 2nd the Premier League cant string two passes together what does that say about the league. I am raging, hundreds of millions later and we are still not a good side. Jose out and take Lukaku with you, fecking donkey

Looked liked the away side all game which shouldn't happen at OT. Disappointing performance all round, the only thing we can aim for now is be the best of the rest. Lukaku was woeful, can't think of 1 pass to a red shirt, either lost the ball or helped out their attack, not a good enough all round player. Even his national coach said he should have buried that chance. Gutted tonight, time to get pished.

We're simply not as good as them.

Exactly this. They’re a different level to us and it showed today. They absolutely dominated us.

What I find difficult to accept is that the players don’t seem to care. Silva, KdB and Sterling fought for absolutely everything whereas we just seemed like rabbit in the headlights.

Only one he put up a fight was young, the rest just seemed to roll over and accepted it.

It was almost 2-2 in the end with the Lukaku chance and then the rebound small margins between a result and a loss

League is over so soon this year, and I'm afraid it will affect our top four chance too.

Just appalling. A shambles all round really. Lukaku needs dropping asap - he's lost all confidence after only a few bad games, which just isn't good enough. Hated the way we set up with no ambition - might as well have played Jones, Blind and Shaw as a front three for all the difference it would have made today.

We were second best today, and deserved to lose. City controlled the game, but didn't do a great job in our box, otherwise it would've been a much clearer result.

Still well behind City and they are built for the long haul. Oh well it's only sport.

Yeah it's concerning, though the task of winning back to back titles is incredibly difficult so be interesting to see if City can do it as the pressure of Champions. It's something Wenger, City and Chelsea not under Mourinho have never managed.

But yeah I reckon we will be relying on Pep crack up to stem their likely dominance.

Lingard was our best attacker today, disappointed with all three Rashford, Martial and the worst of the lot Lukaku who was just shit today.

There were about two or maybe three players in this squad today who had any composure on the ball and didn't mindlessly hoof it when under pressure, Matić and Victor fecking Lindelof. It speaks volumes about the squad. When you look at this game, there's a massive gap in technique between some of the players imo, you look at City players' first touch that allows them to lose their man, whereas most of our players couldn't control their shit nevermind the ball today, usually leading them to a hoof after a shit first touch.

But the most disappointing thing is, when you're technically outplayed, you at least put your fecking shift in, most of the players didn't today. Before somebody comes up with 'negative tactics' shit, I'd love to see the kilometers covered for today, Sane, Sterling, even Jesus tracked back when needed, didn't stop them from not being useless up front. The lack of guts was showing, not for the first time, and the epitome of it was the situation around ~86th minute or so when Raheem '170 cm 65kg' Sterling was able to shield the ball from our players for like 3-4 minutes, and after that they were just hitting our players with the ball for a throw in.

Also, that Herrera's dive for the penalty, Jesus fecking Christ, you can run with the ball you cnut, fecking do it. Future captain material my ass.

Might be an unpopular opinion but am actually pleasantly surprised by this performance, goals conceded of set piece mistakes and only an unbelievable double save prevented a second equalizer. Plus this was done without our best player..Title race maybe gone but 2018 is going to be fun!

I remember Fergie trying to play against Pep's Barcelona and we never stood a chance, granted they had better personnel than City, but i reckon we'd have turned City over today if we had Pogba.

Hoping for a manageable draw for the Champions League and I think we will be in a position to pounce if City suffer any sort of stumble during the run in.

Outclassed again. Lukaku missing that sitter was shit, but we don't deserve anything again after such a peformance. People don't want to admit or want to hear it, but Mourinho looks like a dinosaur in big games these days. No pressing, no pressure, no attacking plan in general, we just try to get the ball when they are in or around our penalty area and then we need to hoof it because we are under consistent pressure or even if we get it out we need to bypass the whole pitch with long runs with the ball or again hoofing. It's a shit tactics for our attackers and our defenders. We don't have Messi who can just take the ball and run past 5 players and we don't have guys like Rio or Vidic either who can compete with these kind of pressure for 90 minutes (De Gea tries his best to do it though). People complain about us not capable of stringing 2 passes together and yeah our passing isn't good enough, but we shouldn't ignore the fact that our players are everytime in situations where they need to clear the ball from danger or need to play it forward as fast as possible to get anything going forward. It's a shit approach and I don't know what Jose wants to achieve with it. And no forget that Arsenal game, we can't hope that we face a team who just gifts us 2 goals in the first 10 minutes, that will rarely happen against the bigger teams. We looked shit and clueless in all big games, even in those 2 which we won and we really need to find a solution for that and not just throw money at it. I don't know how people can have any confidence in us kicking out Bayern, Juve or Real. We will either park the bus for 180 minutes and still go out close or they will wipe the floor with us in one game and decide the tie.

Fight for 2nd place it is. City won the title, I know it's early, but it's 11 points and they are more consistent and just a better team in general than us. Has a team ever come close to bottle that kind of lead? They won it, fair play to them, they are doing everything better than us atm. And I agree with dropping Lukaku, doesn't even finish the easy ones these days, no point in playing him, Ibra offers us at least build up play.

A glass half full way to look at things though, we got owned on our own patch and city were far and away the better side.

People are gonna complain about Mourinho and tactics, conveniently forgetting our set up at Arsenal last week. Ultimately players take the blame for me, it's not acceptable to keep having matches where you can't string two passes together.
Herrera and Lukaku were complete trash. Everybody afraid of the ball. It's not even as if city are great at the back where you need clever passing to get through. If we passed and moved like we did against Arsenal we might have actually gotten something.

Pep is totally dominating Mourinho tactically though. It must frustrate a lot of us.

Reason why we struggled with the passes was due to the tactics from City. We didn't close City down enough nor did we open up space to deal with Citys defensive press.

Matic was alone in the midfield and that was ultimately our undoing. Every 50/50 call went against us. Gutted that it wasn't at least a draw especially with the chance lukaku missed.

Some horrible performances in there.

Our defence and midfield two could only do so much. Rashford and Lukaku were so fecking poor and I was hoping Martial could step up in Pogba's absence.

That was one of the worst City performance I've seen this season. They're a great team though, will win the league at a canter.

We were terrified of them and it showed with one of the most panic-ridden halves of football you'll ever see. We were too deep and had no plan beyond backing off and clearing our lines - It was embarrassing to watch.

The intensity was far better in the second half but it should never taken that long. We started so well until three consecutive mistakes from Lukaku takes us from an attacking move to a City goal. He was unfathomably bad. He's realising all my worst fears of being a technical liability and physical liability. Big enough so that you'll kick it to him but he's not physical enough to actually compete. He has to be held accountable from now on and it's pretty damning of Mourinho that he was left on to break down most of our attacks. Rashford should be getting a chance through the middle.

Very disappointing display. A lot of players showed fight in the second half and there's no faulting the effort but there's no excuse for it taking one half to get going when the exact same thing happened last season.

Oh come of it ffs.

It's one game. They will eventually slip up. Calm heads guys.

Remember we were 6th. We wanted to compete and we are, Mourinho is a serial winner and is gonna do everything to overcome Pep. This is personal now.

A bit of a pointless exercise really.

It was the exact same match as last year. Whatever the plan was we just did not execute it and it more seem like we didn't have one at all. Either way 11 points seems a lot and it probably just put the league out of our reach but the season is long and City will probably drop a enough points for us (or someone else) to catch up. I didn't and still don't believe that we have the consistency to catch up but the opportunity will (by all probability) be there. We definitely raised the bar so far this season, just not enough.

Also Lukaku had a performance that was borderline unprofessional. I get that you miss a brilliant chance, I almost get the anonymity and the defensive feck up. But put all these together and repeat the feck up twice and the whole showing just seems either lazy, unfocused or both. Either way he needs to get his shit together. There are players that are getting subbed of time and time again that deserve to stay on the pitch instead of him. I'm not sure he deserves this kind of luxury and I'm not sure for how long he will still have it either.

Also also if I ever read/hear/see/feel anyone saying that height is the most important factor for set pieces I'll cry. It's all about delivery. It always has been. That's why the one time we were any good at set pieces was the first half of the 12/13 season when RVP was taking them.

There you go City. Take the title. We insist.
Absolutly Rubbish, Mourino should take full responsibility for playing this mindless, spineless and midfieldless football. We have alway known for many years that we don't have an in depth midfield and the situation gets worse with each game. Pack it in Mourino and buy another worldclass midfielder before any other player.

Dont think we were too bad, city seem to just have all the luck.

Should have brought on 3 youth subs with the instructions to take out certain city cnuts

I hope this game doesn't ruin the rest of our season. I really can't see City being beaten. They will win many leagues while Pep is with them.

well, ManC has 2xPogba(KDB&Silva) and we have one..and he wasnt playing. End of Story

Hopefully it shows the board how far we are behind and they will finish the squad overhaul.

No offence to Lingard but he should not be the starting number 10 at Manchester United.

We have 2 class midfielders, then Fellaini and Herrera who are inconsistent. We also need a decent wide right sided player and a left fullback.
Do you really think the glaziers give a sghitttte how far we are behind as long as the profits remain strong ?

We were missing our best midfielder against a well rested City side and we could have were it not for Lukakus poor finishing at least gotten a point here or there.

I do agree however that now title race is over. We should focus on CL.

I don't get how we can spend such a crazy amount of money and still be so far behind?! :wenger:
