No excuses , they are just a lot better than us. People can give out about Jose and his tactics all they like but the fact is that Pep has far superior players to work with.

Is Lukaku ever going to turn up in a big game? Second thoughts if he had not turned up today we might have got something out of the game.

True but you can't ....holy shite watching Klopp interview..he's lost the plot!! Lol....anyways Better players city have but that doesn't excuse our shit ball hoofing and the moron that is Lukaku.

Olivers a fecking bottle job, every fecking time. Inexcusable refereeing. How can you blatantly call every fecking touch and then start letting the game flow because you know you've fecked up? Imbecile.

Wasnt all that bad.

If Lukaku got the goal would have been game on with 10 min to play.

Rashford and Martial dont go well together.
They rarely get the ball, so when they do, they both look for goal instead of linking up.

Should have brought Mata sooner, we miss someone who can do a quick one two and/or play a good ball upfront. The flick to Martial for the Lukaku chance was just that, smart and well executed.

Herrera was average. Some regular stupid fouls but he always shows passion.
Valencia was outplayed and outmuscled by Sane. Young did ok.
Smalling is just too nervous, never ever have I seen him do a false movement or go forward with the ball, we miss that, a ball carrying defender who can take the edge of.

There is still a long way to go, they will lose points for sure, if we can keep up and be in the 6 point difference, might make it interesting.

Lukaku and the other attackers just cant play without Pogba.

We also missed the aerial presence of Bailly and Jones.

Its the manner in which we lost that pisses me off. Two setpieces? From a midget team? Absolutely woeful from Lukaku on both goals.

Its not like they citeh even had many shots on our goal before we conceded the 2nd. Pathetic.

You can blame Lukaku, shove your fingers in your ears and feign ignorance.

Or you can rationally assess the manager's inherent negativity that has cost us in the majority of big matches during his tenure.

We set up like losers and play like them. It really doesn't have to be this way.

Mourinho isn't winning titles here. Clear as day.

City are the luckiest team in the world, add Oliver on top of that, and I can't really be arsed about the game.

There’s no luck in their goals. Lukaku needed to clear the ball for both goals. How difficult is it to clear the ball without hitting a team mate?

Then Martial laid it on a plate for him at the death and guess what? Lukaku hit the goalie again with the ball. I am so sure Lukaku closes his eyes before hitting any shot.

He’s an absolute plank!!!

They don't really threatened us actually apart of those 2 set pieces which we messed up.
Lukaku was unfortunate for their goals but he should have buried his chance , only need to direct the ball off ederson range

The game probably went as well as we all expected tbh

Should've equalised though and if we had the result would've been a good one.

Its not done, Xmas is a tough period and we'll see how it all lies in the new year. We need some fatigue and complacency to set in at city though

Still can't believe the way we conceded those goals. So uncharacteristic by our team, and against those midgets!

Really hard to see how they can lose the league now unfortunately. Only way would be if Pogba's wishes came true and they lost all form after new years eve. Let's hope for that.

Very dissapointed with the performance. I feel sorry for players like Martial and Rashford who didn't do much wrong but had absolutely nothing to work with most of the game. The few times they were on the ball we looked dangerous but Lukaku let us down big time today. He was at fault twice today. Once I can accept but twice is undefendable in a game of this magnitude. City deserved to win because they came to attack and create. If you take the initiative you are more likely to force mistakes from the other team hence why the get so many penalties etc. Congratulations to City and we move on to the next one. That's it.

I think we have to focus on the champions league, but I don't see us having a chance with Mourinhos tactics. Barcelona, Real and Bayern will win the tactical battles against us and we don't have better players to win anyway.

I do genuinely feel sorry for Lukaku, I want him to do well so badly.
I think he should be dropped for a few games now IMHO.

Can't really argue with that....outclassed and out fought. We huffed and puffed a bit and gave it our bestish shot but they are ALOT better than us.

It's hard to see right now how we can bridge the gap. Better players, better coach. Not a great place to be at the moment.

Agree with this. It is easy to be angry right now, but we did not do much to deserve a win. Part of me actually liked it when they scored because it atleast forced us to try to play some football. Looked like we were set up to just sit tight and nick it if possible.

Ah well, let us hope for better luck next year.

I'm gutted tbh. It was always going to be extremely difficult with Pogba suspended. A Hererra/Matic combination in midfield just doesn't work.

Ander is okay at breaking up play and being a genuine nuisance however whenever it comes to any sort of attacking play, he's fecking useless. Always goes for the safe sideways pass. No invention whatsoever. It seems he's too scared to take responsibility when something goes wrong. Unfortunately having players like that in a starting eleven versus the quality of City is dangerous. His ability to skid and turn like a bus against any pacy player is also infuriating.

Lukaku FFS. He really needed to impose himself on this game and prove why we paid 70+ fecking million for him. Shocking for the 2nd City goal. What was he thinking? No harm but that shot late in the second half vs Ederson should have been a goal. I really want him to do well but I just don't think he will ever be able to lead the line successfully.

Really drained after that. I don’t think we played that bad. We had a plan and it was sort of working. Conceding the second goal - jammy in so many ways - killed our momentum as we had started the half well enough. But we kept going - the team spirit and fight is all there. City have that bit of luck that you need to win the league. Oh, they are a talented side too. With Pogba not being available it was always going to be hard task but the players did fine. We weren’t exactly blown out of the park at the end. Ok I know the lynch mob is out to get Lukaku. I honestly think sometimes I am watching a different game. He wasn’t great but he’ll do absolutely fine for us. Another thing that annoyed me was the play acting by the City players - I still question their character and they will have a wobble or 2 to come.

They had all the ball, but they didn't really go for the throat. Carragher had it right that they were trying to walk it in. Took them a while to even make De Gea work. Overall I thought we had the better chances. Lukaku should have had 2.

Frustrating to watch when you're not getting any of the 50/50s. Walker and Jesus should have been booked for diving, for Walker it would have been a second yellow. Both were much more blatant than Herrera's, which I don't think was a dive, but probably not a penalty either. They chopped us down a few times and we got nothing, but they got every soft tumble.

Not that we'd have scored, but 4 minutes added on took the piss.

Think we can give Zlatan a start against Bournemouth maybe or start Rashford up front. I feel the league is a bit over so focus on the cups in my view.

Would have won it without Lukaku to be fair, he added very little and concede atleast 1 goal for us.

1) if that twat Olivier gets another Manchester derby im not going to watch it. Silva had about 3 bookable offences before got a yellow card, Jesus should have been gone before half time...i cant stand him

2) Lukaku...asisted two goals for City tonight. His first touch is worse than mine's

3) after all..it was a good game.

This - media making out that we were hanging on. City had a lot of the ball but didn’t create many clear chances. Granted we only created 1.

Woeful tactics and set pieces cost us. I’ve never seen a team get so many lucky rebounds or deflections. That’s about 4 in the last 4 games

Matic was alone in the midfield and that was ultimately our undoing. Every 50/50 call went against us. Gutted that it wasn't at least a draw especially with the chance lukaku missed.

This - we had no answer to either Silva or Oliver & together they were simply untouchable

We're an average mid table team that has just been performing over average for now.

We don't even really deserve top 4. Mid table, maybe.

Most disappointing performance I’ve seen in years. Mourinho out

A complete dinosaur.

Maybe as well have Allardyce in charge.

Time to get rid.

There's been a power shift in manchester. City are the top dogs now.

This is the best premier league team ever with arguably the greatest manager ever. United cannot compete in anyway shape or form.

He won't improve. He isn't good enough, never has been and never will be. He just isn't a top quality player.

I don't like slating our players but I agree with Herrera and Mata. Simply not good enough for Man Utd.

No we would not and let's remember it's his indisipiline that meant he was not playing . Pogba is a luxury prancer and this team needs fighters like Keane or Robsonof old who cared about the club not how many millions they recieved d or how good the local hairdresser is . It also needs to be sold by those vultures from the USA and about 1 billion spent on players worthy of a club with a worldwide reputation

The redcafe in meltdown thread is unfortunately locked.

It was clear Pep played a bit for a draw. He did what we did against Liverpool away not really going for a win. A draw would be great for City and Pep knew that. A win and well they got the title in the bag pretty much. They know if they do the job they should now they will win the title.

This is where Fellaini can certainly help.

But, yeah, Smalling and Lukaku should've done better in defending these set pieces.

Do you really think the glaziers give a sghitttte how far we are behind as long as the profits remain strong ?

Long term it will hurt us if we keep getting played off the park. Unlike the state sponsored teams we rely on our brand value for our revenue. If we are also-rans we will eventually lose out on revenue.

It's likely that with the influx of scouts that have been brought in that we won't necessarily be in the premium market for players, but I would expect movement. We can't afford to accept mediocrity.

Outclassed again. Lukaku missing that sitter was shit, but we don't deserve anything again after such a peformance. People don't want to admit or want to hear it, but Mourinho looks like a dinosaur in big games these days. No pressing, no pressure, no attacking plan in general, we just try to get the ball when they are in or around our penalty area and then we need to hoof it because we are under consistent pressure or even if we get it out we need to bypass the whole pitch with long runs with the ball or again hoofing. It's a shit tactics for our attackers and our defenders. We don't have Messi who can just take the ball and run past 5 players and we don't have guys like Rio or Vidic either who can compete with these kind of pressure for 90 minutes (De Gea tries his best to do it though). People complain about us not capable of stringing 2 passes together and yeah our passing isn't good enough, but we shouldn't ignore the fact that our players are everytime in situations where they need to clear the ball from danger or need to play it forward as fast as possible to get anything going forward. It's a shit approach and I don't know what Jose wants to achieve with it. And no forget that Arsenal game, we can't hope that we face a team who just gifts us 2 goals in the first 10 minutes, that will rarely happen agains the bigger teams. We looked shit and clueless in all big games, even in those 2 which we won and we really need to find a solution for that and not just throw money at it. I don't know how people can have any confidence in us kicking out Bayern, Juve or Real. We will either park the bus for 180 minutes and still go out close or they will wipe the floor with us in one game and decide the tie.

Fight for 2nd place it is. City won the title, I know it's early, but it's 11 points and they are more consistent and just a better team in general than us. Has a team ever come close to bottle that kind of lead? They won it, fair play to them, they are doing everything better than us atm. And I agree with dropping Lukaku, doesn't even finish the easy ones these days, no point in playing him, Ibra offers us at least build up play.

We are a much better team with Jose. We have managed 35 points already and after the utter shite that LVG and Moyes produced here I am happy with how things have gone this year. Don't get me wrong I am upset that we have lost this game, but there is feck all Mourinho can do when one of his players can't clear a cross and the side that he inherited is showing its limitations. Herrara, Mata, Smalling, Lingard, and Young wouldn't get near that city team, yet they are starting for us.

Lukaku is crap

75mil FLOP, nothing more to say, can't control a ball, can't score, gets out jumped, bullied off the ball....... If we could just get our money back. Mourinho with his undroppable flop, cost us the second goal as even with that big body can't defend to save his life. It is one thing to have a drop in form but this is pathetic, he is showing no signs of improvement. The bench is really starting to call his name and lets hope United look for a new striker in the summer, this was really money wasted.

What was that formation, last year got beat good and proper playing 4-2-3-1, we have shown real progress playing 3 at the back and then playing the most important game of the season just to revert back to 4-2-3-1, Mourinho seems to like losing to Pep. Not only our pathetic defending gave them the game Mourinho's tactics gave them the game.

Maybe next year after a good transfer summer, but I doubt it will matter as you can't teach Mourinho new tricks.

Also, we need the stability of the back again. Bailly-Jones was working so well :(

Smalling just gives me no confidence whatsofeckingever
