Post-match discussion

Get the feck in. We played really well until Di Maria came off. Awful substitution, was creating chances but sloppy. We should have scored so much sooner but after the sub we did nothing. Thank feck for Rooney's work rate and their keepers feck up. Big win.
Yes Di Maria is the new Nani :nervous:

Would love to know what match some on here were watching. Dominated the game and should have been out of sight by the end of the first half only for poor finishing.

Deserved win and Van Gaal takes as much credit as anyone for that.

I hope that's a sign our luck is back
Doesn't always mean much though. I mean that season when we lost the title to city on goal difference, we were so lucky throughout the season with own goals if I remember correct, only for our 'luck' to run out when it mattered in the end.

No all in all it was a deserved win from our point of view. It wasn't a case of a smash and grab as we were in control for most of the game and should have taken our chances before. I can see why your scouser mate said De Gea stopped us from losing but it wasn't the case where he had to make absolute worldie saves, he did the job you would expect from any top class keeper.

Yeah, absolutely. The only really outstanding save of the game was Krul's "double" from Fellaini and Young.

Seems like each game we deploy one tactic.

Last night it was the little chip through balls to strikers again. Close to work but not quite.

A lot of slow slow build up play again. Quite painful to watch in my view.

Even though we had a lot of possession Newcastle had two or three great chances and could well have won this game. Its a great win, but our football really isnt improving.

Just players not in form, LVG trying to do exactly what we want and are saying formation and sometimes player wise so he is speaking in the same terms, but tactically even with the formation it still looks off and not natural

This. Definitely deserved the 3 points, Newcastle had a few dangerous counters but that's all they had on us.

All this "luck" and "undeserved win" talk is, well, undeserved.

They should have had a penalty, and they had a good chance early on in the first half. That was about it. We had far better chances, and a goal wrongfully disallowed.

Cisse's chance which he dragged wide was as good as any chance we had bar the goal. Some fella slipped to feck up a 1 on 1. The sitter they had came with that great de Gea save (from a free kick). The lad put hardly anything on his effort. Clean strike and it was a goal. I agree we were better but they really should have scored in that game too.

We had a good game last night, as far as tactics are considered. They had a few chances, one form set piece, one after a foul on Herrera, and one from Di Maria giving the ball in dangerous position. Also, they should be awarder with a penalty.

Nothing van Gaal could do about those chances really.

On the other side, we created great chances- Rooney miss after Young pass, Rooney header, Fellaini and Young shots saved by their keeper, disallowed goal.

That was a fine game from us, we need to get rid of silly mistakes but generally speaking we’re progressing. No Falcao/ van Persie eh?

3-1 would be a deserved score in this game for both us and Newcastle I reckon.

Listen , im not saying that last nights performance was anything great but the United bashing is getting quite ridiculous now .
It was a decent performance and far better than some of the cack with churned up lately .2 thirds posession away to newcase is hardly a crap performance . Im sick of hearing "United crap again bla bla bla " it's getting boring .

Anyone who knows anything about football will realise at this moment we are probably on a par with Spurs , performance wise ,and a level below city , chelsea , arsenal and liverpool .

When we signed adm and falcao as well as blind and rojo (both coming off excellent world cups) and Luke shaw last summer we all (and rightly so may I had) thought we could put a decent title challenge together which as obviously not materialised .

Di Maria s off field problems must be affecting him ,with regards the break in ,and falcaos loan deal (IMO worth the punt) as clearly not worked out .

Rojo as never played with a settled partner and shaw as suddenly become injured after a season where he rarely missed a game .

Blind as become a good purchase and was well worth the 14 mill we paid for him .

Although performances have been like pulling teeth at times let's not forget we're we are with 10 games to go with games to come against City , chelsea , arsenal , liverpool and Spurs .

Yes ! We may lose them all as people keep saying to me but you never know ! Let's see what happens but let's not keep getting bogged down with negative shit what we keep reading in the papers .

If van gaal thinks this is the best way for top 4 then so be it . If he fails to deliver then be it on his head ! Let's just wait and see .

Just rewatched the post-match stuff on BT Sport and was great to see the spirit between the players and the coaching staff. LVG made sure to congratulate every one personally and they all reciprocated his joy. Sorry to play the broken record but this is another one of the reasons I still have absolute faith in the manager, unlike last season. He clearly has the dressing room how he wants even if performances aren't quite what we .want (although we fully dominated and deserved it last night despite what anyone on here or in the press will tell you. Newcastle had two chances, really - and Dave saved them both!).

A friend of mine is a Toon fan. He was sat near the away end in SJP and said United fans were doing aeroplane gestures at the 17th minute during the applause for the two Newcastle fans who died in the Malaysian air crash. Pretty damn disappointing if true.

Thought it was a decent performance, least we made chances. We have some shape again. We dominated possession but we actually dominated territory too by getting the ball to our wide players. Some good link up on the right side, shame shaw couldn't link up with ashley on the left.

If we could create just a few more chances, and actually find someone can put them away we could be a formidable team.

Seems LvG has got his possession philosophy across load, and clear, next step has to be the attacking flair, but that'll be next season now.

Agree with all of that.

I think we're slowly starting to see the basis of what the 'end goal' will look like. The possession and control over matches has been good, we just need to be more creative and clinical. Something that I'm hoping will come next season when we have a bit more quality in the team.

Thought we were decent actually. But we genuinely need our attack firing and that's not happening. I thought our midfield for example did their job. But the strikers and attacking midfielders need to start stepping up week in week out with end product. Rooney's miss for example, basically sums up our strikers this seaosn. If falcao and rvp had been clinical this season it would have made such a big difference, so hopefully rooney can improve if he's given the place upfront next game.

It is funny, we played a very good first half actually. We should have been 2 up at HT. If that would have happened, we most likely would have turned them to shreads on the counter in the 2nd half. But it didn't happen, and that is the big difference between Chelsea for example and us. If we managed to score early goals, we could easily soak up the pressure and score on the counter.

Every club has those kinds of individuals unfortunately. Hopefully someome nearby sorted the out.

Absolutely. I've often witnessed small groups of United fans partaking in some nasty chants in my time, and I'm sure it happens in a lot of grounds.. What's most disappointing is the irony of these alleged gestures, given what our club's biggest tragedy was.

Yeah that crossed my mind (the irony of it), I guess knobheads will be knobheads regardless.

Your lot are the first set of away fans that I know of (technically second, Stoke fans didn't seem to understand at first) to come to SJP this season and not partake in the 17th minute clapping. Joined in later but that left a bad taste.

Was it a large number doing the gestures?

I didn't notice a single gesture to be honest, and I haven't heard this gesture thing anywhere but here, but then I wasn't watching particularly closely. We did notice yours were quite pointedly not joining in the clapping and roundly booed you as a result.

I find this quite difficult to believe considering how our own fans feel about that gesture.
