I felt we were unlucky more than anything else, we played some great stuff but it just lacked the killer instinct, mind you count that disallowed goal from Rooney and we're up 1-0 within 10 minutes.

The frustration of not scoring took away from some of the great stuff we played at times, but its about perspective, this has been a much improved start of last season and 7 points from the opening 3 games isn't bad.

We still need to work on some areas but overall its been good stuff, hopefully it continues to move in the right direction.

Rooney did better when he became the Number ten, he set up two goalscoring oppuritnuites once he dropped back, he should have done better when he was up top.

Very slow, sluggish and sloppy today poor passing and crossing
oh feck off. what the feck were you watching?? He was one of our busiest players, always looked to try and play forward. Most of our chances he had an involvement in. Get your eyes tested.

I'm pissed off with that game but did rooney play bad? I didn't think so you guys should give it a rest cos he wasn't so bad

I thought we played well and we're unlucky. We got a bit too slow with the passing during spells of the game. However there was some great link up play. We need a quality no9. It is soooooo obvious

How do some people reckon we were boring? I thought we played with better control and rhythm. I liked the way we were throwing the kitchen sink at them the last 10 min.

We absolutely were not shit. It's a game of fine margins, we could have easily won 3-0 and you'd have been ecstatic. Ball didn't want to go in, it happens! We were much better today compared to our first two games.
This has happened a lot of times under LvG. Hold on to the ball and fail to break teams down. I call that shite.

Newcastle have lost a million away games in a row or whatever it is but only one of those was this season so that stat is pointless. New manager, different side. They responded well after the first 15 minutes.

We need a different set of strikers.

On another day we'd have won that comfortably. Newcastle were jammy badtards.

He wasn't bad, but he did do what he needed to, runs of the defenders. Not enough, drifted far too much, not enough movement. Overall he had an ok game, and was robbed of a goal too

Defence looked solid again . More fluid with each passing game. frustrating not to get the goal but we are improving. We started this game with 5 new signings the fact we look as solid as we do at the back is amazing !!!

Few 'LVG' posts' I see.
One of those days as it was said here. Best game in the league so far but couldnt put the ball in the net.
Chicharito must start the next game instead of Rooney.
We need a new forward player too.
I feel if Fellaini wasn't banned he would have helped a lot.

This might be what has to be done. A match fit Chicharito would have probably buried his chance.

Saw alot of this from last season: players just camping in a line waiting for the ball to be played long/crossed from midfield. Memphis for me was extremely guilty of this. Many times Shaw was the only player on the flank with a corridor of space in front of him that Memphis could've drifted into to stretch the play. What does he do? Amble around the edge of the box.

Need to play a midfield 3 where more movement can be provided by either Ander / Pereira / Fellaini.

Performance wise we were better than against Spurs or Villa. But its a results game and our failure to capitalise when we were dominant cost us. Throw in some harsh refereeing and inspired defensive performances for Krul and Collocini and you end up with "one of them days". Still positives to take out the match but disappointed overall have to say.

Yes, but on the other hand, we have limited every one of those teams to a few chances and we are looking collectively secured defensively.

Defensive wise we're great, although the defense hasn't really been tested for now. However we should be dominating and win games like Spurs and Newcastle especially if we're playing at home. Against Spurs it took us till 60 minutes to have the first shot on goal. Against Newcastle we couldn't even score. That's not good enough

You do understand that those LVG posts aren't overreactions. We simply can't break teams down, that's a problem. It's ok to say we should have scored, but should have gets you nowhere.

We didn't fail to break them down, we had chances and didn't take them but whatever to each their own. I'm very 50/50 on LvG, but today we were unlucky.

How on earth do you round on Rooney in a game like that?

No supply; a kid on one side not passing when he should and ignoring runs; a misused player on the right not doing anything, and then fluffing Rooney's cross he should've converted; a very lightweight #10 who faded after 30 minutes.

We have an attacking quartet who don't play like a unit and we have such a low amount of penetrative creativity that blame has to be spread around.

Rooney made a number of clever runs today that others ignored or didn't have the ability to play him in off of, why haven't you picked that out?
Maybe you and I were watching different games. If clever runs is all it takes to be our primary #9, then Hernandez is better than Rooney in that regard and yet was shipped out last season.

As for Rooney, his first touch was poor as has become the norm. Yes we did not create a bucket load but Rooney was part of the reason and not suffering because of it. He has been atrocious for a long time and today just confirmed that he is finished at this level. His link up is atrocious, he is pretty useless in tight spaces and he is our striker who needs to have nimble feet so that he can dribble a bit in the penalty box to get his shots away.

If we are banking on him this season, we will be screwed.

We played well. Newcastle put 11 behind the ball. Against a more open team we would have scored today. In such a case it would have been nice to see LVG replace Schweinsteiger with Herrera and not Carrick. But let's keep our heads up. Not the end of the world.

We need a player who will be on the right place in a right time or who would score from half chance. Too bad about that chance today which Krul saved but Chicharito was there to catch up the deflected ball and to try to score. That's what CFs do.

Think we played better today than against Villa or Spurs. We created loads of chances and were very unlucky not to score. The officials did us no favours ruling out an onside goal and not calling a number of fouls.

Still we clearly need a new forward, it's so annoying seeing Mata pick up the ball on the wing with loads of space to run into and instead just stop and turnback.

Pisses me off we aren't ruthless in the opening 20 mins. Should have put the game to bed there. We need to strenghten attack, it's so obvious. Hopefully this means Ander in midfield but not counting on it.

Scholes is saying it like it is. The quality wasn't there to break Newcastle down, Krul made 2 saves. The idea on here we had dozens of chances is pure fiction. Hernandez shot and Smalling header from the corner were the only clear cuts.

I don't think he should play Memphis and Januzaj together.

Immature mentality on the both of them today. When the referee gave them a hard time not calling fouls circa the 30th minute. They just stopped playing completely. Memphis passing back and not even trying to beat his man, and Januzaj, well, just receiving, controlling, and losing the ball hopelessly.

Don't really know what to say. At the start it felt like we are going to put 3 or 4 across them, and by the end it looked like we wouldn't score if we played for another day.

Lost two bad points today. We should be putting away poor teams like Newcastle at home.

Badly need to upgrade that attack. A top striker and right winger are a fecking must, or we are in for another disappointing season.

I don't buy this on another day stuff, because we have far too many days like today, more than any other of the top teams looking to win this league.

You do understand that those LVG posts aren't overreactions. We simply can't break teams down, that's a problem. It's ok to say we should have scored, but should have gets you nowhere.
Those are overreactions. Why?
Cause we looked better than in the 1st two league games. We just lacked the final touch and we need a new forward player.

We do need to break the bank for a world class striker. I'm not crazy about spending loads of money etc, but we really need that final killer touch which is all I think is missing as we don't seem that bad overall.

Make Bayern or whomever an offer for top striker - don't care anymore. We absolutely need this or we're winning nothing this season.

Any manager that plays open against us is really daft..Bus parking against us works, especially when you dont have much firepower yourself..Worked like a charm for West Brom last season too

It's true that we had similar games under Fergie, but I can't remember such negativity for quite some time.

The performance was also not as slow, sluggish, and stale as many are making it out to be. Case in point: Juan Mata and his adventurous approach going forward.

I think the negativity stems from the fact that we were quite toothless last season and for our first two matches going forward, so those narratives are coming back again.

We didn't fail to break them down, we had chances and didn't take them but whatever to each their own. I'm very 50/50 on LvG, but today we were unlucky.
I counted one clear cut chance.

What I mean is that Newcastle played their game almost perfectly. They sat back and defended, it's the exact same shit that was happening all last season -- it's not one game,it's about 15-20.

Marked difference in tempo when Schweinie went off. Thought maybe Herrera on would have been better for tempo.

We have played better every game so far this season. Lots of attacking intent.

We can play fast possession football. Even Rooney looked better today.

The plan is clearly coming together.

It was more of a back to the walls performance from Newcastle more than anything. We had chances but both coloccini and Taylor just decided to have a top performance today. So too did krul. Similar to that game couple of seasons back where they defended really well. Even the likes of Perez and obertan were rarely upfront and instead defending.
