Manchester United 3:2 Newcastle United

Post-match discussion

Sat, 06 October 2018

Lots of disappointed United fans after an United win. Oh the times.
You have to enjoy a comeback like that! As I'm sure you're aware, I'm as Mourinho out as anyone, and probably wanted him out sooner than most, but if you look through my posts in the matchday thread you wouldn't think so. When people were saying the players are giving up on the pitch in hopes of getting him sacked, I backed them saying they were still fighting for him, and loved the comeback tonight.

Sometimes you just have to enjoy what's happening on the pitch - like when you're a kid watching footy.

At least the match going fans get behind the team and the manager.

Most of you wouldn’t stick 5 minutes inside old Trafford if you acted like you do on here.

I heard boo's after the valencia game. You really think they would not have been boo's had the team lost or drawn today?

His post match interview was quite interesting, he came across as a man who had had the talk and knows he's gone. Quite philosophical. It actually really feels like he had them in at half time and said "Look, if not for me go and do it for the fans. Go out and be yourselves". Although Rashers and McTom came into the firing line tonight which I guess was justified except like Rio said this is the stuff which lets him down really.

Then against this is bloody Newcastle. We SHOULD be hammering them! Hopefully this brings the confidence back up because first game back we're at the Bridge - play like we did in the 2nd half and we will have a good go. Play like we did in the first and it will be a long 90 minutes.

I feel indifferent to be honest.

The first half was horrendous, don’t even want to say anything about that...Young,Matic,Bailly and Smalling were all culpable for the 2 goals and Mctominay had a shocker as well.We didn’t create much in the first half, but we slowly turned up the screws in the second half....Martial,Pogba and Lukaku all stepped it up a notch and it was nice to see Mata and Sanchez make such a vital contribution.

All in all,it was a well deserved win in the end but we just have to sort out the walking talking disaster that is our back 4.No more Young at RB and no more Mctominay at CB...We are close to Spurs and Arsenal now and this season is all about finishing 4th and qualifying for next seasons CL...Onwards and upwards now...

fecking hell, daddy needs a drink now.

Hope Martial plays ahead of Rashford for a while now. Once he shifted into second gear he was brilliant. Pogba amazing.

Sorry for the losers who hoped we'd get beaten just to get rid of Jose, the rest enjoy the night!

Around about the 65 minute mark I was thinking to myself that I'd love to see what Fergie would be able to do with this group of players.

In the last 20 minutes the players gave me an example.

Exactly. I avoided matchday thread cause it's a cesspit.
Some really can't enjoy it, I've seen posts about people being genuinely disappointed. Disappointed after a win. I can't believe it really. Even if you're a Jose out you have to enjoy that and pause the moaning a bit. As someone said some posters hate Jose more than they love United.

And he changed it in the second half. Put Pogba at CB which turned out to be a masterclass.

Give him credit when it’s due. He changed it and we won because of it. Mata’s Free Kick inspired that comeback.

Mourinho gets no credit for that win. His dire tactics got us in that position in the first place, we don't want Pogba in a back 3. Leaving McTominay on could have cost us another 2 goals in the first half. It's only because Newcastle are a poor team that we were able to come back.

I'd really like to say that the first half was the nadir and the second the beginning of a powerful comeback to finally challenge for the top4, but I can't...

Newcastle is a candidate for relegation, remember that...comebacks are meant for Top Sides vs Top sides...

Oh come on please.

he's being fired either way was the story? so either he is fired now or else nobody saved his job and the story was invented to very successfully get clicks
I...what?
I was responding to a guy mentioning Pogba and Martial in relation to this match. Didn't mention any stories because I feel Mata deserves credit.

I don't actually think one game against Newcastle would save his job.

You also left a third option-defeat here would have seen him fired, in which case the story as you mention is made up anyway, but they still would have saved him. But I haven't read whatever story you're talking about either way

Pogba dug us out of a hole today. Credit to Mourinho, his subs worked. But feck me, he brings it on himself. McTominay wouldn't play in the Championship, let alone for a team aspiring to be title challengers.

If he didn't play youth players he'd get even more shit. Lets not get on McTominay's back, young lad in a stuggling team so a bit crap for fans to have a go at him

An incredible game.

First half the absolute worst we've seen.
Second half probably the best we've seen.

1-2

2-2

3-2

That we have fans like this among us makes me so very sad. Support the club. Celebrate a goal. feck the rest of the bullshit or you'll never enjoy football again.

Sad thing is these are the same group of fans who go on and say things like "Mourinho fanboys" or "Mourinho arse lickers"..etc.

I don't want to criticise anyone for that stance because we all have our opinions, but I just can't believe a United fan can't get excited about a good ol' fashioned comeback! Sure, it may keep José here longer, but sometimes you just have to enjoy the moment. Who knows how many more comebacks we'll witness?

Have a good night, mate!

It's just a state of the place right now.

You too mate, enjoy. Cheers! :)

Come on what, absolutely thrilled we won but that was down to players like Mata Martial and Pogba not Mourinho's tactics.
You can't have it both ways. The same players were terrible in the first half, there is no excuse for not being able (or not being bothered) to do the basics.

Jose has to try and get a settled team. Dalot and Young need to fight it out for right back as Valencia has zero attacking threat.

Smalling deserves to start every game as does Shaw.

Martial is now officially in some decent form and needs to stay in the team on the left wing. Fellaini is probably our most effective midfielder so far this season.

De Gea
Young/Dalot Smalling Bailly/Rojo Shaw
Matic
Fellaini Pogba
Mata/Sanchez Lukaku Martial
Romero
Lindelof
Fred (to be rotated with Fellaini)
Lingard
Rashford

That's the purpose of this forum right? Opinion of the fans. Bit unfair and unclassy to seek someone out like that. Every fan has there own emotions on what has gone on in the last 5 years. Some have literally given up because the club has become so rotten which is probably led by bad decisions. I prefer fans who have an honest opinion regardless of whether I agree with it rather than those who seek out there comments and try to turn it into a laughing stock by promoting it.

Where did I try turn him into a laughing stock. People can have opinions all they want but if you're actively sad at us winning a game from 2-0 down, then I feel bad for you.

Also, for what it's worth, I didn't realise the first two quotes were from the same guy when I added it to multi-quote. Didn't intentionally single him out.

:)

The negativity around the club is toxic and hard to not be drawn into. So it's hard to blame them. But it's a sad state when people would want to lose/can't enjoy a win to back up their agendas

So they played on their own I guess?

I'll have a bet that Mourinho did not plan the comeback in his tactical briefing over the last few days.

You know that the next match will be exactly the same and the match after, this time we got out of jail.
I'm not having a go at the players and support them wholeheartedly but we need a change and quickly.

This formation is too slow, only Martial as a runner.

I think we should throw this 4-3-3 out. I want more of what we saw second half, a trio of Martial, Mata and Sanchez with (unfortunately) Lukaku up top, with Pogba and someone else in midfield behind them.

We're shite in defense anyway, so better to go in matches willing to win 4-3 or 3-2 than to win 1-0, as the latter won't happen.

Ok, have that bet. How will you know that?

Booed off at half time. Had to go for it 2nd half. Let's hope the Penny's dropped and he gets them to play like the second half all the while from now on. He can park the bus if we go 3 up

Same here, man.
At 2-0, I was thinking that I was going to have another miserable weekend, but now I am satisfied and elated that we showed the strength of character to score those 3 goals.

BTW, not enough is being talked about the crowd and atmosphere - they were incredible today and the players definitely fed off of that.
We see a lot of other teams have a "twelfth man" at home games and today, we definitely had an extra player on the pitch.
True. The second half felt totally different tonight.Like everyone actually cared. A real sense of togetherness.Just want to see that again more frequently.
