Beginning to feel this way. The players up top just don't cut it.

They had plenty of good openings in the first half and botched every single one.

Oh come on Martial, Memphis and Lingard have everything you would want in young players with potential. Stick Herrera behind them and providing they are all fit and not knackered its an exciting attacking group. We had players coming back and key players missing in Herrera and Carrick. Still a couple of class acts away from being a very very good team for me. We seen just as bad under Fergie in his transitional seasons and thats what we are in right now.

Who would you want to replace him? I'm not quite at the stage that I want to get rid of him but it is becoming more and more of a chore watching us, we lack the spirit that made me love football and in particular United.
No point now but if Pep G is available next summer we need to get him.

Christ we're dull. Not effective either.

The gap between us and the top teams is absolutely ridiculous.

The fact that we might win the PL should worry the rest of the PL.

The fact that our biggest rivals for it at the moment are Leicester City says it all.

Plus side: Defence was solid and Rooney isn't as bad as he was a few weeks ago.

For the sake of balance, y'know.

That was so fecking tumescent and poor!

Why did we look so tired? We played Saturday lunchtime and had sufficient time to recover, we literally couldn't move in the last 15-20mins.

I've been so happy for Lingard in the last month or so, but I'm sorry he needs to improve his finishing. You can't miss the guilt edge chances that he's been missing and today's one was the worst. He has to hit the target there, how he's ballooned it over the bar is beyond me.

Fellaini's not very intelligent, is he?

We better pray for a CSKA Moscow win in 2 weeks time because winning at Wolfsburg won't be easy. We could have had a nice relaxed non intense match in two weeks time but we've ballsed it up.
Finishing is something that comes with a long run in the side he's getting in positions to score it will come. If he was ducking chances I'd be more worried.

Defence being solid is no biggie. They're set up not to concede.

Myself and the three others I watched the game with each agreed that we looked decent up to the point of the substitutions. Fellaini was awful tonight.

Horrible second half. There wasn't one good performance whatsoever. Schneiderlin was abysmal as were all the forward players. Pretty much a disaster.

You can't expect anything when none of your players can dribble past defenders, when there's so little hold up play on the edge of the box and when you are not dangerous in the box. Almost everything we created was from Martial going wide and trying to spot runs from the others. Just after the hour mark he looked like he had run out of gas and, sadly, we couldn't create anything good.

Bruma looked like a world class CB simply because there was no one to match him physically in the box and both their FBs, Brenet and Arias, although they played very well, you can't really say they were really put to the test. Lingard and Memphis couldn't get past them and we had no way to stretch their defense. Our FBs provide very little in terms of end product, anyway.

The subs only made things worse and i'm surprised it took LvG and the rest of the staff nearly 10 minutes to realize that Rooney should play deeper because there was no one to get the ball out of the defense. Plus the Fellaini plan B seems not to be working anymore. Our opponents expect it and have answers for it. Today Cocu switched to a three man defense early in the second half and rendered that substitution useless before it was even made.

Bastian is going through a bad period and we really miss Carrick when we need him the most. With Herrera missing too, it seems that Rooney will be played in the hole and that will make things even more difficult for the two CMs both on and off the ball.

I just hope the back four can stay calm and composed next Saturday because they will get little help from the midfield and that Leicester will leave some spaces for us to exploit, as they usually do, otherwise the week might get much worse. After a bad result we have to go to the stadium where our confidence was shuttered last season. Big game coming up, looking forward to our reaction.

Oh well. Good first 60mins then we just turned into a mess. I hope Lingard starts taking his chances, two games in a row where he coulda been a hero but bottled it. Come on Jesse!

2nd half was terrible. Our players were making mistakes all over the place. Whatever happened in the dressing room at half time worked out very badly. LVG must have dropped his pants and freaked them out or something.

Lethargic and lackluster, I think that second half was as poor as we've been under LvG. just nothing there at all, no passion or drive, at home on a CL night especially it is unacceptable. Our front 4 doesn't have a single top class forward in it it, Martial can develop into one but Lingard is a squad player, Rooney is a has-been and Memphis looks lost with the step up.

Players will be even more tired and we are going to the form team. Draw is fine.

We've had bad performances, but this was absolute garbage by some distance. Memphis was bossed all game, Lingard as much of an effort he put in as not clinical enough to be a United forward. Martial was ok first half but wasteful at times. Rojo was garbage as well.

Second half was putrid. Fellaini contributed nothing when he came on bar the increase in fouls. No clear direction or method to improve on first half. Absolutely ridiculous and we find ourselves in a very tough situation of having to travel to a vastly improved Wolfsburg.

Simply not good enough. Playing so flat with an obvious gap from midfield to attack, regressed into sideways passing again for the last 30 minutes.

Jesus Christ you lot remind me of Keano when we went out of the CL because Rooney and Ronaldo are not good enough. Lingard was our best player in the first half. Is keeping Mata on the bench. Depay's goals qualified us to the CL proper. Martial is insanely good for 19. We have the best Defence in the PL and we are missing players, had players returning and because of injuries havent been able to rotate much of late. If you can't Beat Wolfsburg can you progress to the latter stages anyway in this competition......hard game but thats exactly what you expect in the comp!

CSKA already beat PSV. I think they were 3-0 at HT.
But finishing 2nd would suck.

Really, would you rather have Europa League?

I would have thought every United fan would take 2nd place right now.
At the end of the day this team have no chance of winning the CL anyway

Martial and especially Lingard wasted far too many chances in the first half. Wasted too much energy as well, we looked empty 2nd half. You can't play like that on this level.
I can also see LvG leaving end of this season, not because he's that bad.. just don't want to have the same discussion next year. He can't get his strikers in form, it almost seems they become worse the longer they're under his guidance.

But if we stuck a chance away tonight we'd be a whole different prospect in here....

I think we need to put our trust into CSKA winning in Eindhoven because I'm almost sure we are going to lose in Wolfsburg. They should have taken points from us at Old Trafford already, won't drop anything at home.

So LVG very honest.

First half biggest problem is midfield not supporting the attackers, goes back to comments about not attacking as a team.

Second half players afraid to play and could not handle the formation change of PSV.

All in all he is not a happy bunny.

For United to progress..

- If PSV win next match, then we need to win vs Wolfsburg to qualify.
- If PSV draw next match, then we need to draw vs Wolfsburg to qualify based on the H2H tiebreakers that would see PSV qualify if we lose. A win vs Wolfsburg tops the group.
- If PSV lose next match, then we qualify no matter what but need to win to top the group.

That's near enough the team I'dve picked so not too many complaints there I guess. Bringing on Fellaini to play CM was bizarre to say the least. Lack of depth in attack is really starting to show now, like many on here thought it would. How we could have used Pedro or Januzaj...

I will second that Rooney was actually pretty decent.
