Are you mixing up Lingard with Herrera?

Lingard had a booking for a clip earlier, and got away with one on Redmond.

I don't recall Herrera coming close to a second booking?

Maybe, but Herrera jumped out of challenges more so than usual and let his man go away from him and chased back. He was in the mix the entire match and performed admirably to help his team win. Inch perfect pass, great awareness to get the space before as well.

That's what Jose brings.

Outclassed for 90 minutes but still won. Had this game happened in the last 3 years we'd have lost comfortably
Southampton looked like they had more energy than we did today but on a bad day we managed to win.

Jose didn't say it felt wrong. It's a bit hard on Southampton but ultimately our quality shone through.

The feeling is mine. But from the looks of it, Jose seem like not that pleased with the performance.

I know we were knackered and Southampton were fresher of the two teams. Won't fault the team too much.

Southampton the moral winners.... united the actual winners ;)

Did anyone else spot that this amazing Southampton side also managed to concede three goals?

Call me old fashioned, but letting in three goals isn't often likely to end well for you in a cup final.

Yes they can have no complaints about all three either. Their disallowed goal was unlucky but it was very marginal and difficult to tell for the assistant.

So who are the 3% who didn't make Zlatan MotM?

The salt from rival fans tonight is a thing of beauty.

Credit to Sotton. It could have been theirs and we were lucky.

On a side note, we needed this kind of a night.

Got to love Matt's bias view, southampton's goal disallowed, but hey their tackle lets sweep that under the rug

Exactly, for all their 2 week rest aided hyper performance, we still provided the quality to be 2 goals up when not playing that well, and still did the business late on

They can talk all night about the disallowed goal and being the better team for the next decade, but people only remember the cup winners.

With their first disallowed goal, could you argue that their offside player was interfering with play, because he was blocking our defender from reaching Gabiadini?

Not been so nervous in a long ass time! Went mental when we scored. I can forgive the performance as our players looked knackered versus an absolutely fresh Southampton. Zlatan.... no words. Thought Herrera and Valencia put in great shifts too

Couldn't cope with Davis, Romelu and JWP and Redmond. They did what they could and it was enough. It was a battle in there and battles aren't pretty. Lingard was essential in supporting Zlatan. Valencia didn't get up the pitch consistently until the last third of the match when it was stretched.

Hard to be so critical on some of these players when it was a tough, tough match that Soton was executing perfectly at times. And you have to wonder how Mkhitaryan's absence impacted the team. Mata wasn't mentally in the match and you can see how subdued his celebrations were.
Agreed, think having mata on the right which was always going to be their strong side was a make or break, it didn't work and mata for over run.

Don't think the midfield was helped with Rojo and Smalling doing their best to let Southampton get in behind but I still think our midfield didn't help themselves.

A couple of weeks ago I was defending myself saying Ander wasn't world class and games like today prove my point, he's a real good midfielder still and one poor game doesn't change that just expected more from him.

their strategy was to outrun and outpass us. Their 2 weeks rest was put to full advantage.

But their defence was poor...just like ours today.

But we had quality in Zlatan and others.

Very satisfying win.
Yup. Good thing we don't have a midweek game coming.

Better to be a team that digs themselves out of a hole and wins on the day than the team that played the better football and lost and gets the sympathy vote from everyone. Fair play to Southampton, they played well and caused United all sorts of problems and were more than a bit unlucky with the offside goal. Gabbiadiani looks a great signing for them, his second goal was a great finish.
Southampton come away with most of the plaudits, United won the Cup. It must have been a great game to watch for neutrals, end to end stuff at times. Ibrahimovic was immense.

He always looks miserable after a cup win. I remember seeing him for the first time with Porto, I think it was the Europa league final, where he didn't smile once after the win. It's just his shtick.

Obligatory dab

I lost count of the towering headed clearances and kicked clearances from Zlatan inside the box. Our defenders can't defend so he took the liberty of doing it for them...

Feck me didn't he clear the ball for the passage of play that led to his goal??
Yep

Never said I'm disappointed. I just wish a refereeing mistake didn't ruin our cup win.

Again, when did I we cheated ? Sorry if I sounded like that. Southampton were easily the best team today for the entire 90 minutes. Had that goal counted, we probably might not have comeback from the deficit. Probably might have. But that claim oppo and haters could make that a mistake changed the course of the game makes me a tad dejected.
You've hit the nail on the head there the opposition and haters are saying a refereeing mistake changed the game is because they are the opposition and haters they will sat anything to take the shine off our victory its just what they do.

The referee was poor for both of us that tackle was never a yellow for Herrera and that foul on Martial was an instant red card! That would of easily changed the game too ignore haters they always try to ruin it for us.

He has the 1,000 yard stare going. He's relieved, but he expected to win at any cost. The comment of "I put so much pressure on myself..." shows that he's still hurt from his Chelsea fallout and wants to win the League and eventually Champions League with Manchester United. He understands the club now and the expectation or standard set before him. He's one of us now. He knows the shortcomings of the squad, it played out before him a bit today. His mind is churning and he's trying to keep himself emotionally and mentally in check. Something is driving him deep inside and it's fascinating.

We didn't play well, we looked tired but we scored 3 goals and show a mental strength after losing the 2 goal lead, a big win in what Jose is building here.

A shit performance, but we scored three goals and won a cup final. A pretty good day in my book.

Bloody happy with that. It's not my favourite competition but couldn't care less as it's the confidence you get from winning that's important, which will hopefully serve us well for the rest of the season.

Southampton gave their all but at the end of the day, sometimes you need a bit of luck as well.

Now on to our next match.

I'll take this. A trophy is always great.

I'd rather not talk about the performance. Great game though, for the neutrals (who gives a feck about them?)

Proper cup final. Loved it. Sweaty palms and knotted stomach. The whole works. Almost forgot what that felt like. Southampton were up for it and we seemed lethargic. Zlatan was the difference maker and Pogba and Carrick the best of the rest.

I guess you're right. Let's just celebrate this cup win, and offer a prayer to our saviour, Ibra.

He isn't world class, but he's a player that you need to win titles and trophies. Tactically, he's very flexible and he's put in a lot of minutes. The balance isn't quite right when it's him and Pogba and leaves the team a bit open, however they can camp inside together like they did against Leicester I believe, but doing that restricts them going forward.

It'll be interesting to see how the midfield evolves.
