PL L FA Premier League

Sunderland 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Sat, 13 February 2016

Top 4 chances are probably gone now. I've seen us play worse and some players were alright, but unfortunately too many of them had an off day and when Sunderland were really coming at us, it just wasn't good enough. Maybe we were a bit unlucky towards the end not to get a second as Memphis was getting a chances around their box but other Martial's good goal, we didn't have much of an idea of how we were going to break them down other than to give to Martial and hope he can beat his man.

Pressure is mounting on LVG now and he is going to have another week of stick from the press and Mourinho rumours.

We just don't have a change of gear, there's no urgency when we need a goal, it's all too one paced and tippy tappy. Midfield was just bypassed by Sunderland with too much ease, the wide men couldn't get past the fullbacks often enough and our two central forwards put very little pressure on the CB's. Just not good enough.

I may have to stop watching the matches because this is not good for my health. My frustration and anger gives me bad headaches.

I can't stop watching though because:

a) I can't stop watching and
b) I believe fans have to stick thru thick and thin.

But this is proving very difficult.

No sense of purpose whatsoever. Talk about carrying momentum from one game to another. Poor substitutions and to add to that MORE INJURIES.

I don't think the substitutions were poor - Lingard was rubbish and I enjoyed the attacking change in bringing on Keane. I do think Schneiderlin should have come off much earlier mind. Seems to be feeling the pressure.

Ultimately we lacked both quality and experience and there were some terrible performances in the 2nd half. Smalling and Schneiderlin were very poor and Mata, Carrick and Martial had one of those days.

Really need to stop creating these post match threads. It's easier just to go straight to the LVG out thread!!!

The commentator said this is the worse United team he's seen in years and that most of them aren't the proper quality required and he's right.
It's simply the truth. Commentator on my game mentioned that a loss here would give us our lowest ever points total in the Premier League at this stage. And watching our games you wouldn't be surprised. This is comfortably the worst United team I've ever witnessed.

When was the last time we lost at Stadium of Light in Prem? Honestly I can't recall?

At the moment only De Gea and Martial are playing at the level required, We will need to add a lot of quality to this sorry bunch of players if we are to challenge for the title in the future.

That loss is the last straw and we are going to miss out on CL this season.
De Gea will leave in the summer
We will be stuck in Europa League and no top players will come
We will become the noisy neighbours.

feck me. LVG you are killing us.

No! At this point is the club management, not the coach who is responsible for the ongoing horror show

With Cameron Bortwick-Jackson, Donald Love, Jesse Lingard and Will Keane on the pitch, it's a result to be expected in truth.

Above all, it's the fact that the top 4 are all playing each other and we're not even able to capitalise on that and make ground, that hurts the most.

We didn't even deserve to win this.

Just seen on twitter.

11 points in 8 games against the current bottom 5 teams.
Christ, that is just depressing. At this point with the way we have been playing we might have to start looking at simply trying to finish in the Europa league spots, let alone top 4.

It could've been 4-1 to them if not for De Gea's saves.

and we're too high and holy for Mourinho aparently.

please make it happen ed!

Exactly.

I'd rather win the league winning every game 1-0 and be the most hated team in the league than be forced to put up some of the lily-livered, shot shy bullshit we're putting up with week after week.

Mata, Blind, Martial and DDG played ok.

Schneiderlin was shit.

Carrick was horrendous, needs to retire.

This is deja vu.

A performance which seems unacceptable, which seems absolutely shocking and sack-worthy and a disgrace for a club of our stature or ambitions. But we won't react to this. We won't sack the manager, we won't change the structure, we won't change tactics, we won't sign new players.

Like everytime we lose or suffer a disgrace of a performnace, we will calmly go on as if nothing has happened, and do this again and again till we are used to losing and our expectations are gone. Top four was gone long ago, the sad part is, the club hasn't even reacted to that, forget to reacting to not having challenged for the title.

For all the deluded ones, no, LVG will NOT get sacked. He'll be smiling in the dugout next week.

Par for course nowadays.

But at least we are doing well in the financial end of the game.

Surely that's the worst part of it all. At least financial loss might prompt the club to actually start caring about what happens on the pitch.

Sunderland have had more shots today than any other of their games this season. Wow.

It could've been 4-1 to them if not for De Gea's saves.

Arguably it could of been 1-0 if we had a different keeper in net as well...He's obviously our best player but he could o done much better for both goals for me.

Shite performance though not just any players fault but pretty poor goals to concede.

Apparently, in this game, Sunderland had the most shots on goal, than in any other game this season.

Should have subbed for Keane early instead of rooney and Memphis should have been on the right wing. We needed someone who could break Sunderland's momentum around 65-70 min mark. If the sub's do not create the right impact in a game like this, then they are pretty pointless.

The funniest thing about this is, it probably wont affect Louis at all. United will continue to sink like a stone and Woodward will continue to back his man...

...all the while Mourinho is probably sitting in some London hotel DYING for a call from Man Utd.

There are rumours that Jose doesn't want to take over right now and wants to start afresh next year. That sounds more like him, he knows he probably won't save this season and will be tainted by the associated negativity.

I don't blame him for either goal.

This was a game where we had a chance to capitalise on Arsenal, Spurs, Leicester or City dropping points this weekend and we blew it, badly. That was the last chance of CL qualification.

Chance to put pressure on the teams above and we play like there's nothing riding on the game. So many average players, such a shit manager.

Piss poor again.

The only amusing thing is listening to how pissed off people get every time we get 2 decent results and then crash again. How many times will we have to go through the "He's turning it around now, were back on track, playing better, its coming, its coming.....oh....yeah we lost to Sunderland"

Aside form every other reason for LvG to go, bringing on Memphis...AGAIN... and stupid times.

His thought process seems to be, "Hmmmm, were away, playing meh against Sunderland, 1-1, our best and perhaps only threat in the game is Martial down the left wing.....how can i get rid of that.... Memphis on the left, Martial stuck out on the right and we'll have everybody pass to Memphis and leave Martial to rot out on the right.... Sound good Ryan? Good, all agreed then" 2-1 Sunderland, Job done.

Up until 3.30am watching this shite, why do I fecking bother any more.

... is what I keep saying all season.

You're not the only one mate. I was just telling my mate that it's a chore watching the team play now because you know it's going to be frustrating but can't stop supporting.

True, but De Gea should have done better at both goals and Martial didn't do a lot of good besides the goal.

With Cameron Bortwick-Jackson, Donald Love, Jesse Lingard and Will Keane on the pitch, it's a result to be expected in truth.

And LVG is the guy who is playing them.
He wants to give youth a chance.
Many fans don't want Jose to manage us because he will use World class players, instead of youth (unknown) players.
