That winning feeling.

Very hard to choose between Martial and Young for MOTM

Toughest call in any match of the season so far for me. Opted for Young in the end but there was nothing between them.

Regardless of context the fact its referred to as a "big win" against a team 17th at home, says it all.

Rubbish but at least its 3pts. Better than the past 2 months; at times.

Judgment reserved till the next game.

If I were LVG or Rooney, I'd say "Enjoy the win lads, remember the feeling. But it's Swansea. Back to work tomorrow because there is a long road ahead."

I know it's a win and all, but Mata should be gone when the new manager comes in. He creates absolutely nothing, the only thing he does is drift in form the wing and play the bal out to the overlapping left back.

Martial is a superstar already, Young put in a great performance, Rooney scored a fantastic goal and Schweinsteiger legs look shot and he badly needs a rest.

When given some freedom to push on I thought our front line looked good, certainly one of the best performances from Rooney for a good while.

It only came in spurts, but when they played with a faster tempo it was clear how much better a team we are, that should be how the game is played all the time until it is won. Our biggest issue seems to be slowing down and letting teams back into a game rather than killing them off.

Not as good as we need to be to win things, but a definite improvement. Goals like that are what have traditionally set Rooney off on some scoring run, hope that is the case here too.

Good win. Should have scored more. Been our downfall this season. Missed the Chelsea so not sure how we did in that other than second hand reports but much better emphasis on pacy play. Created lots of opportunities.

I'm a realist. I am not expecting great things from this team just yet. Take it one match at a time. Still not convinced things are turned around.

We won, but we were fortunate. They could have had a few in those last few minutes. They really should have equalised with that last corner. United shouldn't be backs to the wall for the last 10 minutes at home to a team in 17th place. Not sure why we don't revert to the soul-sucking possession when we're in the lead. We just hoof it and sit deep and invite the opposition to win equalise/win the game.

Were Young and Jones injured? We have a habit of messing with the back four during a game, and very few of them appear to be because of injury.
young 100% was he was hobbling for 10 mins and jones... i'd bet big money he was

it is frustrating how unlucky we are with injuries, but it would be nice if we had proper defenders to replace the injured ones. Urgent for me

I'm going to say it and risk ridicule but...

I think we're on the verge of being a very good team. I reckon by the end of next month people will be claiming we're playing the best football than at any time since SAF.

Still a bit rubbish, although an improvement in the second half.

One thing that has been evident in the last couple of games is that LVG has finally given the full backs licence to get forward, it's so important when you've got wingers who want to come inside and a central midfield that is just going to sit. Why it has taken this long for something so obvious to happen is anyone's guess.
That's happened in plenty games this season. It's just Darmian and Rojo haven't been able to make an impact when they've gone forward.

Anyone notice we do not have players on the post at corners when defedning and when we attack we do not stand in front of their GK at corners. Only noticed today.

What a performance from Martial! His pace and direct running style is so hard for defenders to deal with. If he could polish up an occasionally poor first touch and improve his passing he will be world class.

Rooney starting to look better I thought. Young and de Gea also had great games.

As a team we looked really good for periods but mediocre at other times. Some of our defending was shocking too. Mixed team performance but a much needed win!

Jones as well, according to the commentary. He's only been back for a couple of games.
very frustrating, but goes a way to explaining why we lacked so much composure at the end. Could do worse than signing any experienced CB and paying him 300k per week to sit on the bench for the rest of the year.

We've been on the verge of being a good team under LvG for about a year now. The man is the absolute master of the 'nearly there' before everything inevitably turns to shit again.

I went for Young cause I knew everyone else would go for Martial. I felt sorry for him.

Wow this place is fecking awful nowadays. The team that most people here claims to "support" won a game and most people here are moaning and bitching. This forum is getting unbearably painful to read.

Good win, a scrappy one but a win will do the whole team a world of good at the moment after having not winning any for a long long time. Rooney scoring a goal in the new year is good for his confidence too. We looked more willing to take shots and risks this game as compared to before and that is evident from the amount of shots we have taken.

Defense was a bit suspect but that has a lot to do with LVG changing them around too much in the second half and Swansea putting all their pacy players upfront. A win is a win in the end and 3 points is sorely needed at this point.

Were in a battle to make the top 4 so the most important thing was the 3 points. Rooney is looking sharper but it shouldn't take half of the season to reach match sharpness. I'm really pleased we won and the performance was a improvement but it was only Swansea after all.

Martial is our most threatening player, he was excellent today. Sometimes when he has a burst of acceleration his touch can be heavy but that should improve with experience.

We improved and won the game. I hope this gives the lads some confidence as well. Young and Martial were excellent and I thought Mata was also better than in the past where he was poor

About time we got a decent win and nice to break the Swansea hoodoo. Must have been a Garry Monk thing? Anyway, I won't get carried away until we get on a decent run and start scoring more goals.

It's a real dilemma really cause everyone wants United to do well obviously and start turning things around but that will only consolidate van Gaal's position which hasn't changed as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully he can arrest the slide this season and keep it going.

Or Ashley Young!

Any updates on Young and Jones's injuries?

Phil leaving the pitch really opened us up in the second half.
Aye, young has done really well. Been one of our standout performers during this shit period, even though he's been moved all over the pitch.

With all due respect to young though, it just shows how we're lacking a couple of truly class wide players. We'd be ten fold better off having quality out wide with martial up top.

We have always had glimpses of being a good team but it for varuous reasons has not clicked.

We are just a few players short.

Pretty much. Have had to stay away the last couple weeks and stayed in the non-football sections.

What would we do without Anthony Martial? We need to surround him with players of similar quality.

Decent match, and quite all right concerning the circumstances. Actually the first half had about 6 opportunities to score, it wasn't that bad, but 10 minutes of dwelling on the ball and insecurity after the 20th minute gave at very uneasy atmosphere. 2nd half was more lively, but also more sloppy and very nervy towards the end.

In the end a well deserved win on chances created. They scored a great goal almost out of thin air, United could or maybe should have been 2 or 3 goals up by then. But an advantage of possession football should be that you don't let them have the ball if you defend a lead. That's a situation some sideways passing and dwelling on the ball should be tolerated. Besides the goal Rooney did all right, but takes too many touches too often. Another positive is that there were some nice moves with 3 players involved instead of 2 that didn't come off, but the idea was good. Clearly they have been working on collective creativity, there were also some smiles about that from the players, so I'm expecting more of those moves in the near future.

I think even with the current players, more than anything a psychological switch is needed. There is no way, as thin as the squad is, that this team cannot play better football and get better performances.

When is Shaw back? :(
Imagine Martial cutting in and Shaw going past him outside...we could have had half an actual attack!

Haven't been here for 2 weeks and it's still fecking toxic even after a win. Guess I have to stay away more.

Young is playing far better now than he ever did under Fergie. If he was playing like this back then, he would have been playing more often.

I don't think that's true at all. He was in his best form immediately after he joined us.
