Been at a wedding all day so had to give up my tickets. Delighted we won, did we deserve it? feckers always win when i don’t go!!
We did but only just.

However we had all the chances they had one half a chance all game. DDG had nothing to do really and Lloris and the post kept them in it... but we only just had the better of it. Tight, tight game.

Classic Mourinho really. A game of few chances (most of them to United). Mourinho's team wins.

Spurs had 1 chance? They probably would've been more dangerous with Kane. They played 'better' football but to no effect really. We had the better chances.

Good win. Decent performance.

Don't forget we would have been much better with Pogba, too. Didn't they also have Kane last season when we won 1-0 as well? Just don't think Poch does too well against Jose.

I suppose you could argue both teams were missing their best player. Poch doesn't seem to do too well against anyone good really! Worse recent record against big teams than Mourinho!

Martial is a top player. We need him starting more often. Lingard should go back to the reserves. We should also think about selling him and somehow get a player like Erickson. He would do well in this team. I don't know about Smalling. Jones looks solid.

Valencia and Herrera are my favourite players. They have a lot of heart and don't stop running. Young played very well also. I wonder how Zlatan will fit in this team.

Overall it was a good win, we looked better in the 2nd half and with Martial coming on we looked dangerous. Solid 3 points!

Post match with the 3 points in the bag it felt like it was a game where it’s more than just 3 points...it was so important for confidence.

People going on about lukaku coming in to destroy the weaker sides and it working well thats what mou was brought in to do...what did people expect from the game?

I called nil nil. Booing at the rashford sub was ridiculous it’s worked multiple times it’s the most effective attacking tactical sub I’ve seen for years. He’s scored about 4 goals it works every time ffs.

Happy with the result but definitely think we got away with one there.

That first half was dire, great response 2nd half.

Hopefully this'll inspire the troops again into getting a run of results, especially with Chelsea away coming up

Think they were the lucky ones.

I was at a friend’s house and watched on mute. Booing Martial coming on? Crazy but Rashford was playing pretty well and considering we were playing 532 he and Lukaku were pretty threatening.

Hard fought win, it could easily have gone the other way but we dug deep. Massive 3 points.

Martial is becoming this team's super-sub Solskjaer

Don’t think Martial will take this next year though. Would be good to see Martial and Rashford together, as long as one learns how to play RW...

Big win, big display from Young and big balls from Martial!
We were very poor - slightly better in the second half - in term of creativity and drive forward, however, the guys showed passion this time (which we lacked completely last week) and that's what keeps you in the game even on a poor day.

Lukaku with a pretty difficult game as he wasn't getting sh** all from the midfield in first half, made a few bad decisions and hit the post in the second. Nevertheless good for him that he was involved in the goal - we need him to score goals again!

Young my motm.

PS with Kane leading their line I think we would have lost..

With Pogba in midfield we would have won by more...

But agree with you, Young was awesome and loved it when he stood toe to toe with Alli and got him all riled up. That fired up everyone.

It's not an obsession mate. I just find it frustrating that our attacking play has all the subtlety and coherence of an Adam Sandler movie.

We aspire to be one of the world's biggest clubs yet we rely on a Wimbledon-esque punt downfield to score a goal. The fact that City are playing amazing football just across town is an obvious counterpoint.

But if you want to think United's critics are just Guardiola fanboys, then fine.

Hang on, note your point about hoof ball and agree that United shouldn’t play this way all the time. That said, the game was so tight yesterday and congested in midfield yesterday that going long to our CF wasn’t a bad tactic. Why is an effective tactical move in the right circumstance so negative? And the move was pretty awesome: great pass by De Gea, pretty slide off by Lukaku and then Martial with the cool finish.

City to be honest have better players at this point, especially at the FBs where they generate so much offense. Do agree with you bottom line that we can be more adventurous but at this stage in our development, would take that performance and result last night all day. What was harder to stomach was the way we played at Liverpool.

Spurs were the better side in possession but United had the better chances with Lukaku hitting the post as well as Martials goal.
Spurs must be rueing that miss by Dele Alli......the only time Uniteds back 3 was breached.
Fair play to Ashley Young getting MOM and I thought the 3 central defenders,Bailly,Smalling and Jones were excellent.
Very pleased with the 3 points....at half time I was going to settle for a draw.

Spurs missed kane quite badly really. Never looked like playing through a packed defence really and their passes over the top kind of felt like just giving us the ball back with Son struggling to trouble any of our cb's (Jones odd screw up excluded). We limited them to potshots from 30 yards for most of the match.
They looked more threatening with Llorente
We were a bit passive at times, particularly in the first half, but there were good periods too, result felt deserved just about.

Kind of feel thats how we should approach every top 6 game home or away.
Keep it tight but dont give their defence the day off.

Wow what a game, really loved it. Can’t believe some people thought it was a boring match. A tight game but filled with grit, determination, tackles flying around, near misses and ultimately a late winner. Loved the passion shown by lads especially in the second half when they were going for every 50-50 challenges and winning it. More of the same please.

We've got a really good thing going with Martial and Rashford alternating off the bench. One comes on fresh to terrorise the jaded defenders and this has been the difference in several wins this season.
This exactly. Always a gamechanger ready to come off the bench and break the deadlock.

Agreed. I thought it was a really interesting match. There were some really good signs.

I thought it was good game, unsure why people say it was boring Utd again. If we had won the Huddersfeld game then we really would be flying high with some great results. Another 1-0 against Chelsea and we've come through a difficult period in great shape ! Miki really should be dropped for a couple of games. I'd like to see either Martial play central instead or Lingard given a couple of games as he's actually impressed me this season.

Against lesser opposition (basically the rest of the league bar city and maybe Chelsea on their day) that level of intensity and passion would have opened up the opposition more. I thought it was a bit of a dog fight because it was two good defensive units working hard to stop their opponent from making it any more. A win against the league's most consistent team since 2015 is not to be sniffed at and deserves to be looked at in context.

Another borefest. This long ball stuff is not the football dreams are made of. Let Jose see his contract out, he'll have won some trophies and let's get an attack minded manager. This is not our DNA and never will be

Really enjoyed the closeness of the game yesterday, thought two good teams sparring against each other - both with better defences than attacking options on the day. Jones Bailly and to a lesser extent Smalling showed they were unfazed by Spurs attacks. Looked solid.
I’m by far from being a Young fan, but last night I was yelling for someone to show some fight and passion, and he stepped up. As good as I’ve seen him play.
Our link up between defence and attack though is killing us, Lukaku is feeding on scraps due to Herrera and Mhki in some of the worst form I’ve seen in ages. The moment Fellani or Pogba is ready, Herrera is gone. Terrible performance (yet again - where’s last seasons form gone?!?!)
Martial takes his moments, shows his calmness in big occasions again. Now he’s just got to do it when he starts games.

Did the fans booing the Rashford sub cause Jose's little reaction at the end? Hope he's not thinking it's him against the world again.

I am happy that we managed to win, but I was not happy with that performance. Tottenham were quite poor and were really struggling to get something going without Kane and their usual midfielders and so I was really annoyed to see us sitting back and trying to close them down when we should have been trying to push for a goal and they should have been the ones who were trying to contain us. We seemed to start out with the right idea in the second half, where we were still not great but were at least trying to impose ourselves and Tottenham immediately started having problems. We should have started out with that mentality from the start.

We were missing Pogba too, but still, we should have been trying to go forward more often, and we were capable of it because we did try to do it in the second half.

Again, I think the mindset to contain the opposition was the main problem and our forwards were underutilized and were growing very frustrated. Mourinho needs to find a way to Martial, Lukaku and Rashford in the same team, maybe at the cost of Mkhi, who was pretty poor once again.

Any of the other 4 out of the top 6 would have smashed at least 2 past Tottenham has they set out with the same team as yesterday. Not once was I threatened by anything Tottenham did, and it was not because we were defending well. This win looks more like a smash and grab, while playing at home.

I might be being too harsh, but I wish we would worry about the opposition a little less and play to our own strengths. I feel Lukaku is being seriously underutilized. We can get much more out of him.

I'd love to see Martial start but he blows hot and cold.
Jose is getting the best of both him and rashford by rotating them which I'm ok with as they both seem to be a banker to score this way.

It's comments like this and many others on this forum that I find ridiculous considering how Mourinho has brought a winning mentality back to the club after what we have been served by our last 2 managers.

We have been spoiled for years under Fergie and unfortunately some of our fans expectations are just plain daft.

How about replacing Mourinho with Klopp and bringing in gung-ho attacking football with practically no chance of silverware? Would that make you happy?

Might also be an idea to start handing out some white hankerchiefs to our fans so that they can express their disapproval during games should the type of football not be to your and their liking.

Honestly some of our fans (although I suspect some on this forum are not) need to stop moaning and support the manager. Hes doing a great job.

Delighted with a win. Very good second half performance.

Harry Kane-less Spurs; currently trending on social media. What a load of bollocks.

Has someone banned the Spurs supporters? Haven’t seen any of them online since the game, hope they’re ok

So do most 21year olds , he is a sensational talent that deserves his place in the team , . Rashford was pretty ordinary before he was replaced , the booing is just silly stuff from day trippers who know nothing about football or England fans who are biased in the extreme .

This is not the Spurs of a few years back. This Spurs is a top team who drew with Real last week in Madrid. Spurs who were equal to us on points at the start of the match. How can people say Spurs were poor so we should have played better. I think some people do not understand that football is between two teams.
If Spurs was poor we made them look poor. We had on the run for sometime and we should have scored at least two to three goals except for Loris who pulled of two brilliant saves and one from Davis who cleared from Rashford. No one talks about these things. The only thing they talk about is the Alli miss. Lukaku hit a post too and Valencia hit a thunderbolt that would definitely have gone in if it was on target and it was very close.

Martial's finishing is brilliant. Having Rashford or Martial available from the bench is a massive luxury.

The fact we are missing Fellaini says a lot of our midfield. We are definitely one player light in that area.

Lingard's 1v1, Lukaku's post, Valencia's volley, Rashford had two very good tap-in chances that were stopped once by Lloris around the start and then by some sliding tackle from Toby I think in the second, both would've resulted in goals, there was also this squared ball by Miki which could've been either tapped in by anybody or an own goal. Spurs had this Alli chance and two skied shots from Eriksen and Aurier.

Anybody suggesting that Spuds had more from this game is mental, it wasn't even an even match, we were better than them. Nobody's mentioning Poch's shit record against Jose or shit away to big 6 records because it doesn't fit the 'young attacking Spurs' and 'boring, defensive United' agendas.

What is wrong with some people on this forum, are you actually mental? Are you even really a United fan? So many people in this thread sound like spoilt 5 year olds. We won today and you would think we lost 5 nil. We came 7th, 4th, 5th then 6th because Mou had inherited a team lacking in confidence and stuck playing a robotic style of football with zero creativity. But he still managed to win 2 trophies and qualify for the CL. We are now 2nd in the league only behind a City team scoring for fun, lost once, won all 3 CL group games, unbeaten at home and have scored 15 in the process and conceded 0. And people still have the audacity to complain about the clubs situation. We may not be playing great from the last 4 games but we have been surprisingly excellent for the most part.

What do some of you people actually want? Us to go and beat every single team 5-0? Be realistic. Is it a surprise we aren't playing scintillating football? We had 6 players out injured this time last week and the ones that weren't injured were obviously worn out because of the lack of rotation. Get a grip of yourselves. I don't think we ever started a season under Sir Alex as good as this, and if we did then it was few and far between. I think some people need to go and do some research about some of the years under Sir Alex, because we never played swash buckling football every season and we sure as hell didn't start this strong.

It is unbelievable how grown men (and women of course) can behave like such little children.
The vast majority of posters are happy that we won. I'm not sure what's the point of posts like these. These days there's far more people complaining about perceived negativity than actual negativity on the Caf.

Three things really suprised me yesterday:
  1. Dier, Toby and Jan especially Dier, consistenly matched and beat Rashford for pace.
  2. Lingard managed to screw up a five-yard headstart and get caught by probably the slowest player on the pitch.
  3. Ashley Young defending like peak Maldini and attacking like prime Roberto Carlos.

Good game :) with a bit of luck and clinical with our chance we got the 3 points we need to keep up with city.

I think our attack is not clicking because, without pogba only matic is looking capable of putting forward balls and triggering attack. Herrera as instructed cutting the passing lines and recycles ball to matic but doesnt offer an outlet when our defenders have ball as a result mostly our defenders hoof it to attackers. Miki when presented with good runs from our forwards always seems to choose the wrong pass. From what i saw in todays game even when forward space is open herrera choose to pass it back to defence. May be he is still short of confidence but for united to attack more needs to link up better with forwards.

Either miki needs to cut his nutmegophobia or do better in decision making or we have to wait for pogba to return to resume normal service to attackers
