They are nowhere near the finished article but are scoring freely, they also have a striker! I can see it. Win their next game and it's 26 points, 3 behind with real momentum

They look good against the top team too, so can make up ground that way.

Things are looking very ominous right now for us.

The good
  • Our transition phase is improving... Slowly.
  • More fluid and entertaining at times.
  • Clean shit with our right back playing left back, and our 5th choice centre back playing at right back.
  • Getting into more shooting positions than previous weeks.
  • First 10 minutes of both halves, and last 10 minutes in general we played some very nice football.
  • Smalling, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, and Martial had decent games.
  • Blind was fine apart from his brain fart in the first half.
  • Our tempo increased when Depay came on and we looked more dangerous.
  • Carricks incisive passing caused them a lot of problems in the second half.
The bad

  • Another 0-0 draw.
  • Only 1 shot on target out of 19 is nowhere near good enough.
  • We still lack the tempo in midfield to unsettle defenders.
  • We were always vulnerable when West Ham were counter attacking.
  • Schneiderlin injury.
  • Mata was invisible for the most part.
  • We seriously miss Luke Shaw and an inform Wayne Rooney.
  • Martial tends to over cook the ball which looks good when it works out, but often leads to nothing.
  • Lack of a player who was a consistent threat.
  • We gave away too many chances and a better side would have taken them.
  • The ridiculous comments in the match thread.

To be fair we should have scored there, it was nowhere as near as the other 0-0 shite we have seen

West Ham hit the post twice and Zarate should have scored that sitter... which would make it 3-3...

Also, for the people saying "See Rooney didn't play and we still didn't win" or anything to that effect, you must be blind to not see the difference in our play around the box with him not in the starting 11. We were a lot better. He is definitely part of the problem

Cant win these days :

- Boring display, not creating chances, but still manage to get the three points = champions spirit
- Creating chances, more attacking intentions, a draw = disaster

Newcastle, City, West Ham.

Three games we should've won if we have any title aspiration. If somehow we manage to pick it up next year I fear we'll end up rueing those 6 points.

Losing my patience

That's me in the corner

That's me in the match thread

Talking about possession

Trying to keep up with van gaal

And i don't know if i can do it

Oh no, I've said too much

It's time for cyanide.

I'm not happy but gotta say, all this talk of sack LVG is fcukin retarded... is that how knee jerk some have become?

I'm not saying sack him, but It's hard to call it a knee-jerk when a) it happens most weeks, and b) we've had, maybe, 6 good performances in his 18 months in charge?

Well that was annoying. Certainly better than recent 0-0s but still monumentally frustrating, and some stupid play and poor finishing on show.

We weren't actually that solid today, but had far more risk in our forward play I thought.

Memphis was good when he came on and deserves to start.

The tempo in the last half hour was much better, whether that's cause we'd bored West Ham to sleep for the first hour I don't know.

We actually created some good chances but our finishing was horrific, Fellaini unlucky couldn't do much more, Martial shooting wide, Mata wide, Limgard wide, Schweinsteiger over the bar.

I dont understand why we don't play like that more often, perhaps it was only possible because West Ham dropped off.

I'd like to see a front four of:

Martial
Memphis - Herrera - Lingard
Memphis looked pretty good today but he was poor against Leicester so you never know which one will show up. Mata slows the play down a bit too much for me, seems to kill the momentum of our attacks. Lingard and Martial combine quite well.

It's imperative with all this possession and recycling of the ball that we bring someone in that can consistently go past a man. Martial does it well and more often than not our good chances come when he takes 1 or 2 players out the game by dribbling.

Disappointing result, very disappointing actually considering City lost. Next up is a must win game and I don't know how confident I am heading into it.

The issue is just as much that LVG seems to be happy with this sort of performance every week, as the performances themselves.

There are good things about the team - we maintain possession and are extremely solid at the back. It isnt all doom and gloom, but clearly the brand of football on offer at the moment is quite simply boring, and major questions have to be asked regarding style of play, and how much (or not) we have to show for the massive amounts of money spent by LVG since his arrival. This would be forgiveable if Louis showed some sort of awareness of what is going on, but he seems like he is genuinely in his own world at times, watching a different match to the rest of us.

Van Gaal seems to believe that what the team is currently serving up is good, attractive, entertaining football; that we are unlucky to lose most weeks, that we are creating chances freely. The truth is that the football is terrible, and it is made even moreso by the fact that it seems so deliberately terrible.

West ham had better chances. They missed from a few yards, unmarked! Didnt even test the keeper

If anything , we were both lucky and unlucky.

We had far more chances. They had the best ones. Neither team has any excuse for not scoring tonight.

Did West Ham really defend that brilliantly? I must've been watching a different game, because I thought we were just predictable and easy to defend against.

Wish our attackers knew how to finish. They blew it today.

How much of that is coaching though? Finishing really comes down to composure and confidence. You build that by constantly recreating those situations on the training field and in matches. We create such precious few chances in games, it's easy to understand why we snap at chances.

If they had Sakho, Lanzini, Valencia and Payet, United would have lost today I reckon...

It's the opposite of knee jerk, it's been building for months and the same response every week.
It's knee jerk because it's not even January 2016 and we are a few points off top... the potential upside to this team is immense, we aren't that far off. It's also very glass half empty... it is what it is.

I just can't see where the improvement is going to come from. I think even with this great defensive record we flatter to deceive, often it's Dave that bails us out.

We should aspire to attack like Leicester City. At the moment our attack is so pedestrian we're making players like Reid look like world beaters.

Finally created a few chances but woeful finishing. If we don't buy a goalscorer in January, I think we can look forward to another season without European football next year.

Happy to see us give it a go as the end neared. Depay brought some much needed energy. However, people saying that we should've won are having a laugh. We should've lost, and quite easily at that. How they didn't score is a mystery and LVG can be thankful that luck was with him yet again to get this draw. LVG has to go if we can get someone in the summer. This is not working.

Could argue we didn't deserve to win. To argue we deserved to lose just shows your bias and destroys any credibility in your post.

Quite pleased I decided to not watch most of the game. So many other things to do.

Got to laugh at fans like this, so basically you only want to watch us if we win? Least we know where the term glory hunter comes from.

Absolutely agree. Lou Macari, who we know is one of the biggest apologists out there, just said on MUTV: "had West Ham scored one of the two posts, crowd would have turned and most likely we would have lost the game".

There is no way anyone can say this was a good game. Points dropped at home against an inferior team is never a good game.

This would have been a disappointing result for an away fixture , let alone playing at Old Trafford. Not too many positives, but at least there was a little bit of positive play at the end of the game.

If was more entertaining football then we've seen of late as well

Calm down, they have caused destroyed a few big clubs this season.

It'd only be knee-jerk if people were reacting based on this one game.

Do you honestly think that people are basing their responses on just today?

When you see the same comments every week it's not knee-jerk.

We're frustrating beyond belief. This was an entertaining 0-0 draw, in comparison to the dull tripe we've been served recently. We were lucky that West Ham didn't get the luck they needed to score first. Anyway for longer periods there was more intent to get the ball forward and try to create. However our play in the final third was sloppy and ineffective too often. Decent half chances we're not put away due to a lack of composure or players not putting themselves in position 6 yards out.

It's as if we're out of practice at playing fast, fluid and clinical football. I wonder why that could be...

Depends on your definition of short term right?

We don't play counter attacking football. LVGs tactics are to keep ball.it's been the way he's played all his career. To be fair to him he's had better strikers to make that successful but the criticism is warranted. He sold all our strikers/goalscorers and left us with some dross.
He sent Januszaj and Wilson on loan, when Pererra could have gone instead. I just don't get it
