Premier League Gameweek 26 (3rd - 5th February 2018)

Try this version .. it should make it clearer for you ;)

Lamela made the most out of it but have to say that was a clumsy tackle by VVD. There was no need for him to do such a stupid thing. Rash and clumsy to say the least.

I can see a clear kick to the calf. Not the knee.

Yeah same here. And even if some thought there was little or even no contact, he's still swinging his legs towards Lemala's calf. He gets so close that even if there was little contact, it's still enough to be convincing.

Been a good weekend for Utd. Increased the gap between us and Liverpool/Spurs.

Hopefully Watford take points off Chelsea tomorrow.

Coming from one of the biggest WUMs on the board :lol::lol:

Clearly there is a debate to be had because it's not only all over this board (with opinion split even between United fans) but all over other forums and commentators. So it obviously isn't as clear cut as you lot (die-hard United fans) would like it to be.

Yours truly a die-hard Liverpool fan.
There are about 2, 3 videos in which a kick is clear as daylight.

You still try to spin it like it wasn't a pen.

Indeed, and the important people in this debate are the match officials. They gave a penalty end of.

you should focus on why, at home, you went one up then allowed Spurs to dominate, equalise, save a penalty, go 2-1 up in time added but conspire to give them an opportunity to put a ball into the danger area. That's on your team not the match officials

You must be mixing me up with someone else. Do I sound like a scouser?

He tried and failed to clear the ball, it was a bodged deliberate act. An unintentional act would be a deflection from a shot. I accept that his actions could be interpreted to have been affected by Kane’s proximity and as such he was interfering with play. Perhaps they need the attackers to be in the defenders eye line or something but it seems the way the officials interpret the rules deem Kane not to be offside.

Perhaps they will change it in the future as the interpretations of offside change quite a lot.

I suppose they want attackers to be able to go there, which kinda makes sense - but still looks very strange to me.

I shall try to remember it as the ''bodged deliberate act'' clause from now on, :).

Is the correct answer.

However I'm not going to argue with every naysayer on this. The evidence is clear, it was never a penalty. That said if I was a United fan I wouldn't give a shit .. it would have been the result I wanted no matter how it came about and the fact Liverpool fans are incensed would only make it the sweeter ;)

This is correct. As a united fan I'd rather you draw feeling hard done by for sure.

Best result for us.

do the ''not a pen people'' think VVD throws his arms up so as to distract away from having booted Lamela on the back of the leg?

(it's a bit soft, & Lamela is hamming it up, but VVD kicks him, Clive)

:lol::lol::lol:

VVD kicked him so cleanly that his leg recoiled as a response, it looked like VVD had no idea Lamela was there...he had a rush of blood and tried to hoof it.

How is that soft? It's a kick full force to the back of the knee

I don’t see how anyone can say these were dives, Kane was stretching to keep the ball had it and the keeper clipped him. The second one was a 50/50 ball and Lamela went for it, got him self between the ball and VVD.

It's always Liverpool fans who dig up one favorable angle of an incident and run with it.
All other angles make it look like a stonewall pen. Accept the decision and deal with it.

I've just seen the 2 penalty incidents and I've got say neither were penalties. Both clear dives from Kane and Lamela. As much as I hate Liverpool I can understand why theyre frustrated. Spurs are really a bunch of diving cheats. Kane, Alli, Lamela all dived tonight. It's a very good result for us United fans in the end definitely.

You are wrong on the second one as the gif above your post clearly shows. He smashes him in the back of the knee. It's as clear as day.

You can tell by the trajectory of VVD’s leg that he connects. These clips just don’t have the FPS to show it.

I tell you what it shows you have to know what you’re looking for. In the gif above I thought it looked an outrageous dive - barely saw VVD’s foot moving.

The recording from the TV below it, however, shows a clear boot to the back of the leg so I’ve completely changed my mind in an instant.

Of course there's a debate to be had, I'm just wondering why you'd pick the worst possible angle and claim that it makes it clearer if your intention wasn't to deliberately muddy the waters and skew the argument in your favour.

Good result for Spurs - an away draw at Anfield keeps us well in contention for a top 4 finish.

Tbh I thought Liverpool were lucky to get a draw - they were the home team, yet Spurs dominated the play for much of the game.

On the offside. It isn't a new rule.
Jonny Evans scored an own goal when he was at United, trying to clear an offside pass.
It was unanimous from anyone not affiliated, that it was the right decision. Crazy, but that's how the rules were interpreted.

They run out of gas second half, you should have beat them.

It was absolutely not unanimous, considering that the linesman gave the offside and Mike Dean overruled him to give the goal. It was against Newcastle, here's the article below.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ng-on-field-confrontation-with-Mike-Dean.html

Bonus inclusion: another genius ex-ref who defends his mate's call and interprets “a player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by interfering with an opponent” as “Position of offside not an offence. IFAB rule interference only when playing ball. Evans played it. Dean cleared facts with Collin.” (Graham Poll).

Anyway, after that, the rules were clarified to say that a player that interferes with an opponent, despite not touching the ball, is considered offside. Kane clearly interfered with his opponent and forced a poor clearance, and he was in an offside position when Alli played the ball, so it's pretty straightforward for me.

Second one is a penalty for me, the first not really, and it's even offside.

Klopp's run in the second Liverpool goal is so ridiculous.

It’s clear penalty for me, he does try to avoid further collision (afterwards), but that was right after the contact was made from his boot (with full force)

I agree. Don't know why people are taking for granted that Kane dove. Keeper got none of the ball and came charging out right in Kane's path. Should have been flagged offside, mind.

Second was a blatant pen.

But hey, let's blame the officials and ignore Liverpool's deficiencies. Easier that way and worse for Liverpool in the long run.

Fantastic result. Now Chelsea to drop points for the perfect weekend.
