Question Time & This Week

fecking hell, jeering Scotland is a shit look.

Entertainingly, that got corrected to "fecking Clattenberg" on my phone.

We didn't really need a mention there tbh, I'll take it in good spirit...I think.

I'll take that as a badge of honour.
Fair.

I liked Yvette tonight, she managed to annoy a moron. Also thought Ahmed-Sheikh was alright. Lefty American lady whose name I forget was great. GOP lady living in a bubble where "context" means "thing I'm imagining someone might have meant when they said something deplorable".

Yeah, Yvette wasn't bad, and I say that as someone who finds her very meh. Made plenty of fair points...but then, it was an ideal week for her because she didn't really need to discuss anything Labour related and was always going to be on the side of sense. Really impressed with the lefty American like you.

I thought Tasmina was her usual annoyingly vapid and substance-lacking self but then I'm not a fan at all so am probably a bit biased in that context...even in supporting her party.

GOP women was rubbish but strangely not as bad as the guy the other week...even if it's a very low bar. I find the willingness of people like her to call him a loose cannon but then be cool with his Presidency very, very weird though. Shows what the Republicans will do to grasp power, I guess. Older audience member called her out on her criticism of Obama when he's largely been hamstrung.

The Tory was pointless, but then most are on QT.

Even as an SNP voter I think she's vapid and useless. Comes across as ridiculously fake in everything she says and she's supported just about every main party at some point or another.
Spot on.

The two rather angry vacuous women on either end of the table made that a really tedious hour.

Question about post-truth...panelist immediately lies to make joke (Cat Boyd on immigration).

ETA: She didn't even vote? Well that didn't go down well with either side.

She shat herself.

Yeah, out of her depth. The party she worked with during the Scottish elections was RISE (a group of Socialist parties bunched together), and they somehow managed to get outvoted by the Christian party and Tommy fecking Sheridan.

Lively audience. Like the jocks for that.
Yeah we're a spunky bunch. Certainly injects a lot of life into the show.

Aye. She's not as bad as Eddi Reader, but not a lot better and she's sinking like a stone here.

Merryn Somerset Webb should have a permanent place on the panel IMO. It is always reassuring to hear her calm and calm and reasoned views on the programme.

I'm kind of surprised they had her on. RISE and radical indy and that mob got a fair bit of attention during the elections this year and during the referendum but politically they're irrelevant. Someone from the Greens like Harvie would've made more sense if they wanted a non-SNP Yes supporter. I call BBC bias by deliberately putting on someone so shite!

Yeah, even on stuff I've not completely agreed with her on she's seemed very balanced and reasonable.

Merryn pissing off the Scots again.

I haven't been listening since the very beginning, what did she say earlier?

She did raise an interesting dichotomy though: leaving the United kingdom, only for Scotland to then become a fully paid-up member of a centralising EU.

She was highlighting that the SNP was originally forecasting all prices north of $120 p/b in its original independence push (my figures not hers), so the economic case is obviously a lot weaker now.

Some shit from her website.

At MoneyWeek, we've been tipping gold since 2001. In that time it went from $250 to $1,900 an ounce in 2011 (a 660% increase), hitting record highs each year since 2002.

Er, not it hasn't...

EDIT: Just reread and she might be right, but she happily writes of the massive bear run after the 2011 peak!

I was surprised that the recent Indian calling in of banknotes didn't result in a huge surge of gold price.
Still am really, shows how much I know.
The dollar has sold off a bit, which might have offset some movement.

The Tory guy was very honest about politicians lying!

Felt a little sorry for her when the room turned on her, but to be honest if you claim to be a political activist and wuss out of voting on something as big as that then you kind of deserve it.

I think John Nicholson is one of the better SNP advocates.

Laughed at all the dumb-dumb Scots booing the reality check from Merryn.

This is just one of those innocent uses of language that I'd be 'PC gone mad' to suggest portrayed negative sentiment towards the Scots as a whole, I take it?

You're surprised at a Question Time audience booing?

They often manage to make a Jeremy Kyle show audience look like a collective mime act.

I absolutely forbid you to use that sort of language to slur Scottish folk, but I'm fine because I am one.

Politics in Scotland is all pro EU anti UK drip fed by the SNP dumb-dumb nonsense. Talking to political activists here could leave you in serious danger of a brain aneurysm.

Farron's largely spot on. Beginning to think the Lib Dems were underappreciated more and more during the coalition...we'd almost certainly not have had Snoopers Charters with a coalition.

Is there any chance of Question Time banning Brexit as a topic. It's never ending.

Is a non-Brexit a soft Brexit then? He's a rude, sly, reptile of a man (like many other politicains).
