Rafael

Hopefully going to watch the rerun on MUTV today. Excited at the prospect of seeing this lad with the hype in here.

Peterborough were very good in the first half. It is a pity for Fabio that he came on with so many changes and at a time our strikers went off but I just wonder if they'll both end up being fullbacks.

I think Rafael will but Fabio, you just never know. I think he might get introduced more ahead of evra on the wing because if he was that good, he'd need games but also giving them both chances would be too much chopping and changing the defense

Rafael made maybe one/two mistakes all game. He did get nutmegged and the guy flew by him but that can happen. The time when he drifted onto the left side and didn't track back leaving PIG to have to kick it out for a throw in - but that can happen.

They could make an impact this season. They're not the biggest (though neither is evra) but they're quick and for Rafael to last the 90 was great because it's not easy. He was probably knackered after 5 minutes

They're still potential but I do think they'll play games this season and maybe one or two of the other young players. Cleverly, especially has shown the same desire to play

I know people will think 'too much' but as brad said they're brave as hell to attack as much as they do and they're sensible enough to track back. I'd rather they had this ability and were Irish but there you go.

Fantastic

Really? Fergie said, before the game, that their debut had been delayed because of problems with getting work permits, so I assumed they didn't have European passports.

I think he was referring to the Brazilian rules, which do not permit under 18s to play for foreign clubs. Milan had the same problems with Pato. They signed him when he was 17 and had to wait up until he was 18 to play.

I think it has to do with international clearance more than anything. They weren't allowed to play for us till they turned 18.

No, delay getting international clearance, which only came through three days ago. We could only apply once they've become 18 years old. They have Portuguese passports so they don't require work permits.

They could not play when they arrived in January anyway because they only turned 18 last month.

Interesting prospects. I reckon there is more to come from these twins, the other two Brazilians, Campbell (he will improve), Wellbeck, Nani and co.

The future is bright, the future is red. AIG

I think more important then the impressive performance going forward was seeing his willingness to fight defensively, a lot like Anderson he launched into tackles with enthusiasm, about the only problem was him chasing too far inside

I was also impressed with Gray. His dribbling was top notch.

If Fergie uses them as he did with Giggs when he came through, he will give them a few reserve outings to get their match fitness up and then let them train with the first team.

After that it will depend on their progress and how they adapt to the English league, particularly in the winter months.

If they continue to develop we will likely see them in the League Cup and maybe in a few Premiership games when the game is won.

I can't see either of them taking over from Evra or Brown or Neville at this stage......but let's hope they are able to adapt because they have real potential.

Can't say that for me. Didnt really stand out in my eyes.

He didnt had the best game of his life, but he showed some great touches with the ball which shows great potential.

i think the only reason danny simpson was allowed to leave was because of rafeal. as saf said he was waiting for the international clearance for these guys. i genuinely think that Rafael better player than Danny.

they will both stay this season and may get unexpected chance to play through injuries just like anderson & nani did last season. don't forget that these two were meant to be gradually introduced but only due to injuries and suspensions that they got their chance.

fabio if anything seemed more attacking but was never passed the ball although he was in some great position at times. that is the difference between 1st team players playing, they may have spotted him and passed the ball. no wonder the guy gets so many goals for his brazil team.

On a very serious note, like, why do you act like such an idiot all the time? I mean, i've ignored the last few attempts over the last month or so, the one in the Berbatov thread about the cool name stuff, or even before when randomly digging up your own 'latinise our players names' thread to have a go. There have probably been more, and i've hardly even posted on here in recent months. You seem a bit obsessed, and your primary objective to discredit my posts/name than actually say anything constructive.

Each to their own i guess.

There's little more pleasurable in the game than to witness the debut of a player such talent and potential. I'm absolutely staggered how well Rafael especially played tonight, I really am. Look at the mentality of the young kid compared to the likes of Gray and Martin, who look tentative, don't want to make a mistake, don't yet believe in themselves. The exact opposite of the Brazilians, and thats why they made such an impression

Good post.

:confused:That is a random rant. I did not even mention you in this thread

On another note, with Fabio and Rafael looking so impressive, do you think it may be time for the club to perhaps accept a bid say in the region of £8m for Evra and Silvester?

It was really in response to the above post i highlighted, which was obviously made to make my post in another thread look silly. Just that you seem to invest a lot of time trying to discredit me.

Re Neville, it depends on your definition of world class... when fit he will always be picked for his national team. But going by peterstoreys definition (would he be picked in an earth 11 to play mars?) I would have to say no...

I posted it in another thread too. Take it easy ffs;)

Undoubtly, yes.
Probably I wasnt I wasnt that impressed by him, because I was too much concentraded on the brazilians and their performance.

Then get on to MUTV and watch a re-run of the match. They are serious talents and Fergie seemed absolutely blown away by Rafael after the match. I haven't seen him purring so much about a young player's debut since Rooney vs Fenerbahce.

I reckon Nev is gonna be in and out with injury agains this season (time waits for no man) and I can see Rafael getting some minutes late in games, with a view to possibly giving Wes the odd break, later in the season, when we're up against sides who are unlikely to stretch us defensively.

League games aside, I would say he's a nailed down certainty to play every CC game and every FA Cup game against lower league opposition.

With the luck we've had in the last few years I had forgotten such a thing existed.

I went to the game last night and while waiting for the delayed kick-off noticed two guys with afros passing the ball too each other, I thought 'oh thats Fabio and Rafael this is brilliant chance to watch them kick a football'. The announcer had named O'shea as right-back and Possebon in midfield but then when they walked on there was Rafael infront of me charging forward and throwing himself into challenges. His position was right in front of me and I couldn't take my eyes of him, then Fabio came on and I kept noticing him flying down the wing at lightning pace.
These two have work to do on their play but will definately be stars of the future.

Like I said last night, he'll simply just replace Simpson's role at United, which means he'll play all the Carling Cup games, possible easy FA Cup games, the last match at the group stages of CL if we're already through by then and possibly come on in a couple of easy league games now that we've got 7 subs.

I've been all giddy since last night, and it's continued through the day today - what a debut! Fergie's comments afterwards should suggest to everyone exactly special the boy was last night.

Useful to have full-backs like that in games against teams who are hard to break down.

His pace was unreal, as was Fabio's

I see everyone here droolin over their pace, but could someone describe to me exactly how fast they are?? As in Saha fast? Ronaldo fast, Evra fast or Nani Fast?

p.s. Campbell fast?

I think a few more games like that and he will give us a problem. I know it was peterborough but when you weigh everything up, that was as good a debut as Ronaldo's was

The boy hadn't played for a year. He's learning the language, he played with two different back fours in each half. It was the first time he'd played with these players and it was away from Old trafford against a fit, strong committed side.

He has a good engine. He's attacks but doesn't forget to track back. He seems confident, very sound on the ball. He is small but isn't scared to put his head in etc

Peterborough, if they play like that most weeks will get promoted. They were very good actually.

It's tough because you do get fanboy tag or 'just cause he's Brazilian' but it is hard not to be optimistic. People might be a little frustrated these aren't manchester lads or lads from closer to home, but it's only an incentive for the likes of simpson etc to keep on improving

How fast are they? Very fast. Fabio didn't really get much of a chance to sprint with the ball but Rafael seems to be as quick with the ball as without it.

Actually rafaels first run where I think he was overlapping from deep in our half - he was like a rocket being launched lol. It was quite something

Well Evra looked like he should be participating in the Olympics 100 metre run last night - he was lightening. The twins looked about as speedy as Evra.

Certainly as fast as Evra, maybe faster.

Is that a genuine quote, or one of the many made up ones that run around the forum? Either way, he can't get everything right. Also, saying someone has the potential to be very good is different from calling their performance in a game with part of the first squad a sensation. :smirk:

yep, i have the potential to be an astronaut by the seer fact i'm alive. Aint gonna happen though. the word potential could be used for anything

Maybe I'll have to bring up my FM editor, SiGames have rated them quite poorly.
