Rashford considering his future...

What I will say is by now we should have identified who our future manager is and have started making preparations for his arrival in the summer. This would include speaking with Rashford, letting him know where the new manager will play him, what will be expected of him e.g. if left wing maybe more pressing and looking to supply the striker rather than being a left striker. Let rashford know whether the future manager will be bringing in competition in his place and that hes not guaranteed to start unless he is in form. If Rashford is happy with that and wants to re-sign then cool, if not and he wants to demand to play as a left forward that doesn't track back etc then we should sell him.

But most likely what will happen is we won't know who our manager is until the summer, Ralf will probably not know what his role will be until the summer, so all these conversations with rashford pogba etc will happen in the summer eating into time that we should be spending on other things.
 
The only issue I have is his demeanor on the pitch. Rashford have been benched in derby game for a teenager from academy and when he comes on, he is jogging around. After the game, brief the press about his "bemusement" and seek clarity which is easily explainable with little self reflection. These thing point to much larger issue which are more difficult to fix than his horrible form.

His talent is undeniable, although it has been overrated here and in British press, but he is a good player who is worth holding on. But his attitude issues have become worse and that has created the doubt.

I don’t think you’ve understood. I didn’t say he would replace ‘Prime Vardy’. I said he could replace Vardy right now. He could definitely play as a 9 in that team, as Vardy does right now. Run fast. Work hard. Exploit space.

He would improve under those managers you’ve mentioned too. Almost all players would.
 
Would be a massive mistake to let him go in my opinion. Think he'd have plenty of suitors, could easily see Chelsea or PSG wanting him.

What he did for the school meals was amazing but sounds like it has gone to his head, if he thinks he deserves to stay at the club after the last 18 months of performances.

Didn't we say the exact same about De Gea? He was poor for so long but has found his form again lately. Crisis of confidence definitely springs to mind, he certainly has the ability as we have seen it fairly consistently in the past.

Not saying this is you, but there are plenty of pro-leave numbskulls who got seriously p*ssed off when he held their beloved Boris to account and took on the Tories. I hope that isn't factoring into what people are saying.

Yeah what he did was remarkable, and anyone that looks at what he did as a negative are fecking idiots. What I mean is, it sounds like him and his camp must believe that his reputation off the field should be enough to guarantee him being a starter at the club. That must be the only reason as they can't believe that his performances on the field have been acceptable?

Seems he feels pretty entitled to play, but then again as a club we've pampered to him a huge amount.

I just don't think we should consider letting him go at all, he has bags of ability and potential, just looks like his confidence is really low at the moment. There's definitely a very good player in there and we have so many holes in our team that I would certainly keep him for another year and give him the chance to regain his form. He's so much better than what he's been showing lately.
 
It's all good saying that this club and that club would want him. Would Rashford want to go? Would he be up to a whole new start.

Between the 2 of them they scored more than 50% of our league goals that season which shows the type of football we were playing. Hit and run football and Rashford would do quite well but put him in a more technical system, like we're trying to implement now and he has no where near the footballing IQ required which is why I find it laughable when people mention his name with the likes of City, Liverpool, PSG or Barca. Everton is more his level.

Or his past form, I would guess. It seems to be a trend of the club in general (the board, fans, managers and the players themselves) to base player merit on their best form, even if that is seldom seen in a United shirt or (in this case) hasn't been seen in some time.
 
This place is always very quick to wash their hands of a player when their form dips. I still think he’ll get back to his best, and I’d rather it was with us than a rival. He’s awful right now though.

Rashford's form didn't dip. It nosedived for a prolonged extent where his true worth is seriously questioned. He's closer to a Walcott II than a top level player.

Talent is immaterial at this stage now.

If he’s this shite next season under a new coach I’ll happily accept he’s a total Walcott and his best days are long gone.
 
Listen to any top athlete and they will talk about ‘the top two inches’ as making the difference between good and great. Rashford’s top two inches is on strike just now. He will probably leave and the change will invigorate him, he will return to OT with another team and destroy us.

His play has feck all to do with the manager. He can't be fecked, and puts in next to no effort. This is even worse since last year where his general play was poor on top.
Him failing in the basics has no relation to whom the manager is. And it's happened for a prolonged period under two separate managers anyway.



For example, the timestamp of the above, has nothing to do with whom is coaching the club and everything to do with Rashford being brain dead as a footballer off the ball. This was a key criticism of him in his pomp too, that his tracking back is non existent and defensive work poor.

When we had the ball near the city final third and when city had a shot on goal in our penalty box the only thing constant was rashfords position, he didn't move even 5 yards in the entire transition.

And we still have some defending rashford, scandalous performance. If keane was playing he'd have tossed him out of the pitch right there and then.

In principle, yes you're right, there isn't much patience in football. However the real problem is Marcus doesn't help himself. A compliation of his non-efforts could be put together within the last 5 matches, nevermind since this poor form began (and it's hard to remember exactly when it did begin it has been that long, at least in performance if not statistical terms)

He's got to start with the basics. If he plays shit, then okay. But form and technique doesn't hinder your ability to work your arse off and show your fans, your teammates and the manager that you are up for the fight. What is he expecting, to come off the bench and for his body and the ball to miraculously coincide in a manner that places the ball in the net? He needs to get himself together.

Someone at the club needs to grow a pair. We need to have clips of this "poor attitude" playing at Carrington, shame these players. They should be embarrassed watching it, if they take it the wrong way, you know their mentality isnt right for this club.

Each and every player needs to be held responsible, I don;t think anyone at the club is doing that in case they hurt feelings.

Playing injures, prolonging surgery to get a few minutes at the Euros was all his and Ole's doing. Appalling decisions.

At one point he had a nutmeg in his locker, he could change direction at top speed, he was nimble. Now he can run in a straight line and stumble into a defender.

I knew it was the hippity-hoppity rap music, even when it was the lack of application, an inability to fully recover following a broken back and a general lethargy towards football I knew it was the rap music.
 
I think ultimately Rashford will stay and sign a new deal once Ten Hag or Poch are appointed.

Agreed although I think he has always been lazy to various degrees after LVG had left.

He had a physical advantage mainly through his pace over defenders but that seems to have gone now. Unfortunately, he never looked like a Giggs type of player who could reinvent himself after injuries had taken away some of his powers.
 
Lots of things to say about Rashford, I didn't like that he prioritised the Euros and England last summer instead of the club (who pays his salary), I'm not happy with his form, am definitely not happy with his application and attitude but what comes most to mind at the moment is the game at The Bridge earlier this season.
His run with Sancho from the half way line when Jadon scored was comical and would have been disastrous if Sancho had squared it to him rather than slip it in himself.
In an offside position for the entirety of the move meaning the wrong decision by Jadon at the end would have had the goal chalked off for offside.
Madness and it just about sums up Marcus's footballing decision making.
A local lad, a Utd fan wearing the beloved shirt and on astronomic money he should be looking in the mirror and trying to get back in the team, not wondering about leaving the club.
If he isn't up to the fight then he's not fit for the club!

It's why I find comments saying replacing him is going to be hard ridiculous. He's doing feck all on the pitch, you could put any of our academy players and they'll contribute more just from running around like headless chicken to press.
 
He’s going nowhere. He’s a home grown player who has been good in the past. I think the club will persist with him for another year before making a decision. If he forces a move then I think the club would hold their ground like with Lingard.
Personally, I think he needs to be in a more fluid side And playing with confidence. The next manager is critical for young Marcus.
