There's no argument whatsoever in the card. 2 footed lunge = red card. There is nothing of a yellow anywhere near it. The penalty was debateable, yes he dived, but the idiot pushed Berba in the back. If you don't want someone to go down, don't give them something to dive for. Don't push someone in the area.
When you lose 1-0, a dodgy pen does rather make a difference. It was a poor decision, really poor.
Penalty was 50/50 (would have been okay if it wasn't given), Gerrard sending off was as clear as it gets. Serious question, what exactly was the problem? If Gerrard tackles like this against an Arsenal player I'd say the same, straight red if there ever was one.

Don't get me wrong - I'd have sent him off for it. From what I've seen from officials, though, it would often have been a yellow. Barton did a similar challenge last week and the decision from the same ref was a yellow card. I'd have sent him off, but I see their viewpoint.

Seeing the response from the Scousers my only regret about the match is that Berbatov wasn't offside as well in the penalty incident.
I notice very few people read my post properly. It was a nasty challenge, which is a red card, but there's little consistency here. You have to give a red all the time or none of the time, that's all I'm saying.
