RAWK goes into Meltdown 2010/2011

Real are hated arch-rivals of his boyhood club.

He left his boyhood club for silverware, sure, but he left them for another league where he was unlikely to have to play against them.

I don't think he has the sort of attachment to LFC that LFC supporters have pretended he does (his disinterested performances of the last 18 months have proven that).

So going to Chelsea, who are hated rivals of LFC (who he may well feel have 'let him down' in their transfer dealings and management decisions), is not a big deal to him. Certainly not what moving to a club you hated as a boy would be.

I still think he would sign for Madrid if they bid for him. When it comes to the crunch there is very little loyality in football. And I see him as no different. Owen went to us. And that really proves the point.

Also if Barc had not signed Villa in the summer they would almost certainly go for Torres right now

I really wish someone would post a video of 'I guess that's why they call it the blues' on RAWK.

This is gold.

Noone should have an ounce of sympathy for the dippers, after they laid it on thick during Ronaldo saga about Torres being a class above, loyal, loved the club etc.

Like what we probably said about Rooney pres October? Like I said in post above, loyality is a thing of the past

I seriously would blame no one else other than david villa, I really do believe his spannish team mates have had a role in this...decision.. Think about it... Torres was happy with liverpool even if the current situation. His 'friends' phone him during last week...'hows things'.... Torres 'yer not bad, we're getting back on track had hard season but getting there, I'm ok and happy, content..'

David villa: ah...haha..ok ok...don't say I didn't warn you...
Torres: 'no hehe..it's good team they close to me..I like em..you dont understand
Villa: Don't blame me..its up to you..you have bright future...look at where i am..

Torres: We have daglish..hes doing really good, hes awesome

Villa: who??,,,,who's daglish...heheheheh hahahahah who thew hell is he..never heard of him.. (VILLA obviously a scum and don't know football legends of the UK) - typical..eh..

Torres: no he's legend...he's really good...you not heard of him..

Vulla: Not sure...hmm....anyway.....you should join a team whoi can win trophies

I could jsut imagine a conversation like that between Torres and His clsoe closer friends...villa, and other spannish players who like to spoil things.

Their mods have basically told them all to go to bed.

Right - it's the witching hour, just past midnight Friday/Saturday.

Here are the facts:

1) He put a request in
2) It's been rejected
3) 20 pages of comments, some of which truly are embarrassing and it can only get worse.

This will reopen tomorrow, if only to save us staff from deleting post after post after post.

Christ, anyone would think he'd just signed for Man Utd......

It'll just be a load of backtracking, just look at Rooney on here now.

Exactly. We really have no right to sneer at this.

Fact of the matter is Rooney handed in a transfer request. Even though he later denied, there is still the real possibility that his destination could have been City. Which would have been about a million times worse than Torres going to Chelsea

Interesting in one thread they are furious with Torres over a transfer request.

In another thread they are applauding Charlie Adam for doing the same thing.

See Liverpool fans and a certain Stevie Me. Fans eh? To be honest, one can't blame Torres.

I'll tell you this: Whatever happens now I will never ever forgive Torres

for ruining my friday evening. I was quite enjoying it and this has put a slight dent in my mood. I might have to get myself a bevvie.

And on a Friday at that. The timing is simply intolerable.

see redcafe with Rooney

But not even remotely similar...Since Rooney had won everything with this club, including the Champions League, 3 Premier Leagues and 2 Carling Cups, and apparently wanted out after half a season of not winning anything despite finishing a point off the top last season...And yet STILL some gimps though he was entitled to do this..

Torres on the other hand is a World and European Cup winning world class striker, wanted by all the top clubs in europe, who's stayed loyal to a club who's only come even remotely come close to winning anything once in 4 years, and still didn't do that...whilst he's watched his Spanish team mates win everything there is going..and had suddenly, after 4 years, decided he can do better.

But yeah..other than that...pretty much the same.

Must have been changed since I viewed it, I don't have an account.

Yeah, but Torres handing in a transfer request just three days before the window shuts is a pretty shit thing to do to be fair.

One fella says "how times change", then the rest starting slating him for worst bump ever etc (last post was 2008 iirc)

Rooney doing it 3 months before it is even worse.

What were we meant to do with him in that time if his request was accepted?
Obviously not play him but still pay him until he leaves. It would have caused far more disruption having him around for that period.

Things like this need to happen quick and fast. I will be very surprised if Torres is still a Pool player next time they play.

Rooney didn't hand in a transfer request to the club

Wrong again.

He didn't once say about wanting to leave, being open to moving on or handing in a request.

He said he wouldn't sign his contact until assurances were made.
Really. The first thing that came out was that a "source" close to Rooney had rung numerous journos on the Saturday evening (they all knew the source and knew that it was legit) saying that Rooney wasn't signing a new contract because of an irreparable breakdown in relations with Fergie. That says to me that one of them would be leaving and it wouldn't be Fergie.

The other stuff came out later when this didn't wash with anyone.

RAWK is indeed on fire tonight!

It might sound like hyperbole, it might sound a little OTT. But when you become a Liverpool supporter, you sign a contract unlike any other.

Our religion is one of many gods, and only one church.

The words of Tennyson's Ulysses seem particularly poignant in the circumstances:

Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in the old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are,
One equal-temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I wouldn't blame him. Loyalty's an over-rated commodity in football. If he'd played like shit for another 6 months, fans would've wanted him shipped out at a reasonable price. If Liverpool play like shit for 2 years and he wants out(and he is class enough to be playing for the very best), it's a sign of being disloyal. At some point, he has to think about his career.

What in the feck happens over there?
I think we're experiencing "the full impact of the Liverpudlian communion" (actual RAWK quote - probably my favourite of all time, never to be surpassed).

Here's the link to that brilliant thread, which I forgot in the post above --

But a big part of me died tonight, naive as it may seem, I actually believed we had a player that truly got it, I dearly hope he never has to witness a teary eyed seven year old standing watching ssn at midnight realising that there's no such thing as heroes

To be fair I don't think you can blame Torres, it's rough for Liverpool fans but I don't think it compares to what Rooney did. Particularly when you take into account the fortunes of both clubs:

United - one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world, always challenging and usually winning.
Liverpool - a past great club but rarely challenging these days and has been on a downward spiral for 3 years.

Rooney shit on the biggest club in England, Torres just wants to leave a struggling one.

Also I would play hard ball and then take the big money if I was Liverpool, he is the best striker in England (IMO) but he is too injury prone to provide value to a team in Liverpool's position. Invest the money in building a better team.

That's a bit short sighted. Would have bought it if you would have said:

Face it, we have been on a great run for quite a while but it will end sooner or later. In the early 80's I was so amazed and proud when we won the FA Cup over Everton. This was when Everton and Liverpool dominated the decade, much like we did the last decade. I agree that Torres wants to leave a club that is struggling but I never assume that we will always challenge for anything (especially when Sir Alex retires).

Who can blame Torres for wanting to leave?

Unlike, for example, Tevez or Robinho who create problems everywhere they end up, he was a model professional at the both clubs he has played so far.

He'd left his boyhood club with Atletico's blessing because he wanted to win trophies and in Spain it was never going to happen for him, unless he'd switch to Barca or Real. Instead, he joined Benitez at Pool and was sold the idea that they're on the verge of greatness. Everybody knows what happened after.

Somehow scousers expect him to stay loyal to the club that kept promising him things were going to change for the better when in reality it was going the opposite way. Now the manager who'd brought him in is gone, so are the likes of Alonso and Mascherano, Gerrard got old and is past it, and after yet another trophyless season in the summer of 2010 Chelsea come calling.

Liverpool turn the bid down, Pusrlow meets with Torres and his reps and promises that the new ownership will get things better and the club will get back on track, so Torres agrees to stay on.

Which brings us to January 2011, still the same problems, serious risk of missing out on the CL for the second season running, no chance in hell of winning the title and the squad is still lacking.

If anything, they should thank him for remaining loyal for so long. 99% of modern footballers in his place would have jumped ship long time ago.

Any scouser with a modicum of sense already know they've been lucky a) to get in the first place b) to have had him this long, the move was just odd from the beginning, he was a truly world class striker for a while, he could of gone anywhere and he picked Liverpool, I never understood that move, almost on a par with Tevez and Mascherano going to WH
