Rio Ferdinand

One of my colleagues finished a late-shift at ten, has to sleep-in at work and she'll start at 7 am tomorrow.

I'm lucky - no sleep-in - otherwise the same.

Still, work keeping you away from family isn't nice, even in as well-rewarded a scenario as Rio's.

Yeh I'm in the working on NYE club. It sucks. Rio really should think before he tweets though.

Just when you thought Rio couldn't be any dumber.

Was he after any sympathy!?

Enjoy the last year or 2 of this amazing lifestyle Rio, as then you can have the next 40years doing what you like on new year's eve!

Not quite as bad as Ashley Cole saying he almost crashed his car at getting a mere 80k a week offer from Arsenal.

Are they taking the piss!!

what a twat.

What the feck is wrong with people?!?!? There is nothing wrong with that tweet. You utter tools.

It's kind of hard to sympatise with Rio over missing new years, becuase he just have to play for United the day after. Whining is for girls.

It's not that the tweet is wrong/bad, but the response is brilliant. If you can't see anything funny in that, then I'm afraid your sense of humor is not that great.

The response is funny and I'm pretty sure everyone will agree.

Slagging him off for the tweet is just ridiculous though. You can't just say to all rich people "ah well, you're rich, you don't need to have fun with your mates on NYE", that aint how life works unless you're a completely bitter feckwit.

Same, I'm sure most of the people who criticized him did go out partying with family and friends. It doesn't really matter how much money someone makes if they can't enjoy it.

You must be kidding me.

I'll cancel every NYE from now until the end if somebody promised me £150K a week.

I don't see anything wrong with that tweet at all. It doesn't even look like he is actually seriously complaining.

This. The reply was hilarious, but nothing was wrong with what Rio said. Some people are just too touchy over things that do not even concern them. :wenger:

What's wrong with the tweet? He's not actually asking for your sympathy, ffs. He's just having a bit of a laugh.

Typical caf sense of humour failure.

Which of you lot are "the United boys" then?

Rio Ferdinand has revealed he was confronted by a gang of hooded fans during his contract talks with the club eight years ago. The group calling themselves the "United boys" turned up outside the player's house to demand that he signed a new deal.

The Manchester United defender's future had been the subject of speculation at the time after he had been photographed with the former Chelsea chief executive, Peter Kenyon, in a restaurant, but that had been a chance encounter. Ferdinand was asked to come to the door but could not see anyone on his security monitors.

The 34-year-old told Four Four Two magazine: "So I go to the side door and grab a big bit of wood, jump on the side of the wall and I'm just about to scream 'raaaah!' when I see there's a massive group of people, with hoodies and caps covering their faces. "I just thought, 'I'm going to get served up in a moment, so go bananas and they'll think you're a nutter!'

"Then one of them said, 'We're the United boys, fecking sign your contract,' and I was like, 'What you talking about? I've only just started negotiating two months ago, what you worrying about?"'

Explaining the background, he added: "Basically I went to see my agent for half an hour and Kenyon was with him. Someone's taken a picture and made out like we're having a bloody meal together. So I'm saying to these guys, 'If I'm going to do a deal with another club, do you think I'd be doing it in broad daylight?'

"One of the neighbours had called the police by then and they got off when they heard the sirens."

What's wrong with people in this thread? Everywhere feckin drama queens, chill out FFS

Showing up at someones door "forcing" him to sign is just pathetic

His agent happended to be with Kenyon and also didn't inform Rio of this. Does Rio think we're a bunch of idiots, being seen in public was exactly the point, what better catalyst to getting a top notch contract. Obviously his agent will have been the one to devise such a nefarious little plan but still, Rio was complicit in doing so.

If I was 120K a week, I'd have a collection of man bags

The story about a 'gang' of United fans coming to his home is hardly made up. The news spread around that same night.

Yeah, this has been talked about for years - also something similar was said to have happened with Rooney during the last contract fiasco, and I believe when the Giggs scandal happened then there was talk of some similar lads going to his home to "encourage" the paparazzi camped outside to move on.

How much of that is true I don't know - honest, gov :nervous:

Was absolutely brilliant again I thought. Suarez got absolutely nothing from him. Was very vocal and organised the back four superbly. I hope he signs that contract extension. There is still so much left in the tank from him.

This thread sort of sums of Redcafe for me; he had a brilliant match against Tottenham, but in Rio's thread it is as silent as in a tomb. Why not praise players instead of just criticising those who may have made a mistake?

He has pretty much been brilliant all season and is really stepping it up after Christmas. It seems he and Vidic may be our best partnership still. Didn't look too sluggish when he blocked Defoe's shot either.

He has been doing well for most of the season, though he really seems to step up for the big games. Just a shame about the pointless hoofing. :)

World class as always in big games this season, nothing too much to add except:

He has been doing well for most of the season, though he really seems to step up for the big games. Just a shame about the pointless hoofing. :)

That was most frustrating thing in yesterdays game, he is making awfull ball playing defender out of himself this year even though he proved over the years that he is good with the ball at his feet.

Rio's got excellent technique, brilliant for a centerhalf, but I actually think it's been years since he's shown it through his passing. Just looks like one of the things he has lost over the years, maybe while simply becoming better at the key element of defending. You still see what he's got in his feet with ball control or the odd foray, but not so much with his passing, certainly not long balls. He's obviously not got a problem with short passing.

I am not expecting him to turn into Scholes, but passing the ball to Rafael for example instead of hoofing it almost every time would be much better for a change.
