SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

All my Mum's social circle are going on as normal. Line dancing, pubs, having coffees, planning to see families for Mother's Day. My mother is giving me shit for keeping her in. I'm fighting a losing battle.

fecking Boris the shitc*nt isn't messaging firmly enough and it's going to be a disaster if we follow the Italy numbers.

It wouldn't do any good. Our president, who is adored by the elderly, was on the verge of tears in a recent press conference and said something along the lines of "I beg you on my knees please please please please do not go out".

They are still going out.

Oh, there will be catastrophic economical consequences, don't get me wrong. I think the recession is gonna be the biggest recession since the big depression and will make the 2008 recession look cute in comparison.

But I do not see any other alternative until the vaccine comes. You either cull 1-2% of the population (which will crash the economy anyway), or you accept the recession. I don't see a third solution.
And these catastrophic economical consequences will probably lead to more deaths in the long-run. The modern societies of the "Western civilisation" are not ready to go back and live a more primitive lifestyle. It will be chaos and it will cause huge social unrest.

It's a slippery slope, in my country I don't see a lockdown lasting more than another 2 weeks. We are the poorest in the EU and the majority of people don't have any proper savings, especially people involved in the small and medium sized businesses. And now the government wants to vote for new laws that prematurely tax businesses for 2020, based on results from 2018. It will turn into a riot and huge protests, because tens of thousands of people, maybe even more, will lose their jobs and livelihoods.

His briefings are far too jovial. He isn't getting the seriousness across and he should be leading by making the hard decisions.
I agree, but at the end of the day, if grown up literate people still have not realized that the situation is serious, then the blame is for them. Why on Earth needs someone Boris the shitcnut to tell them to stay home considering all the other sources that are saying to stay home. I mean, come on, people should be rational and put the responsibility on themselves if the government does feck all. And it is not that we're asking to go to war, just stay home as much as possible.

There is only so much BJ can do, Itally has charged 40,000 for breaking the lockdown in 6 days. Thats a county where hondreds are dying daily, I feel once the Corona Law passes you will hear a different tone, but sure BJ gets torn to shreads for that too. I dislike him as much as anyone, but people need to take personal responibilty on this and stop finger pointing.

It might well be the case. In any way, I do not see the entire world keeping those constraints. Some countries will get herd immunity (most of Africa for example, who cannot afford lockdowns, but at the same time have a very young population which is relatively not vulnerable), those that can will wait for a vaccine. But yes, one way or another it is gonna be bad. Easily, the most negative thing that happened to the world since WW2.

Unfortunately there's enough people not taking this seriously to still cause a vast spread. Now kids are off school, more people are likely to be out and about too acting like it's a half term.

Just discussing with the wife but Tesco are planning on letting NHS in for an hour before everyone else on sundays, now is just me that thinks a group of probably infected people touching produce before the public go in might not be the wisest idea?

That video of the gym, someone literally says they have to just take it on the chin.

That is why johnson is a danger. His glib bullshit is repeated because hes the PM.

Maybe put some signs up asking them not to finger the salad?

Well, if this is a war-like type of crisis, the world leaders need to make the harsh decisions. I know people think they can save everyone, but if you put the future in more danger with severe actions in the present time, it's just not right and will cause more suffering.

So what's todays news? Pretty much same as yesterday, no lockdown, just advising people not to gather?

Aha. Now we all know when this is going to end.

Boris has decided that we will have defeated the virus 12 weeks from now.

Mark that on your calendar and we can all plan around that timeframe.

It has to be enforced with police checkpoints and proper penalties. A minority will never do what they've been asked to do, so you have to make it a crime to break the restrictions. You can't rely on people being public-spirited, because there are enough selfish people to undo all the good work.

South Africa's minister of health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, estimates about 60%-70% of people in the country will contract the coronavirus, but only about 20% of those will be serious cases.

59 million people here. That's only 7 million serious cases.

We let it slip people. We had this perfect, convenient and progressing world and we let it slip.

Every now and again the surrealism of this tragedy hits me. Nothing will ever be the same again.

Netflix are reducing their streaming quality apparently. Will I pay less for it? Of course not. This is unacceptable. How am I expected to enjoy 4k quality programs if they're being streamed in standard definition and I'm still paying the extra money? Fecking virus.

Oh wait, shite, yeah there's an actual virus

They've upgraded "wash your hands" to "use your elbows to open doors at the pub.

I actually find it amazing that when they're reporting the new numbers they don't say how many there are for a single day, they just give you the running total. Dunno why I find it so odd.

Yea my mother expecting this to blow over in a couple of weeks.

Social media posts from doctors and front line medical staff in Bangladesh points to a very big cover up of deaths... I think south Asia is fecked.

I saw this earlier which prompted my post:

I don’t think my mind can contemplate the consequences of an all-out outbreak in South Asia.

Use ororo.tv, much cheaper than Netflix and bigger selection.

The point of the visual is the WHO seriously messed up in the early stages.

Is the twitter you embedded (which is stupid) related to the response you've given (which I agree)?

This is where shit can be thrown at the Tories as their governments have cut policing to the bone. It’s a real worry if things get nasty.
