SC Braga vs. Manchester United

Braga (A)
De Gea
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Fletcher
Cleverley Anderson
Rooney
Persie Welbeck

Villa (A)
Lindegaard
Rafael Smalling Evans Buttner
Carrick Scholes
Valencia Rooney Nani
Chicharito

Why are we resting van Persie, Rio, Evra and De Gea for the more important game?

i thought Chicharito deserved a start and has been playing well enough to trust to get the job done. And of course we'd have Persie on the bench.

Now that Lindegaard is healthy again I expect some rotation, so that's just a guess that he'll play against Villa.

As long as Rio and Evra don't need the rest then by all means play them. I know they can play three games in a week, but it would be nice if they didn't have to.

Rafael probably needs a rest, so looks like Smalling at rightback. Rio and Evans had an easy game on the weekend so both should start as should Evra.

De Gea should continue in nets.

Carrick and Cleverley should be rested so I expect Fletcher and Anderson to start. I also expect Valencia to be rested and for Nani to start. I suspect rooney will also be rested but RVP will start.

So

Fletcher Anderson Welbeck Nani Rvp Hernandez in whichever formation Fergie sees fit.

I hope Smalling comes back looking reasonably good, whether at RB or CB. I'm really looking forward to that feeling of serenity you feel when the opposition loft in a cross and you can see him towering above the masses, the ball seemingly gravitating towards his inevitable calm header away. A rare treat for a United fan. :nervous:

De Gea
Rafael Rio Evans Evra
Fletcher Anderson Cleverly
Rooney
RVP Welbeck

If fit and ready, smalling can give rafael or rio a rest.

Subs: Lindergaard, Smalling, Valencia, Giggs, Scholes, Hernandez, Young.

fergee pls

DDG
Smalling - Rio - Evans - Evra
Fletcher - Anderson
Nani - Rooney - RVP
Hernandez

Lindegaard

Smalling
Evans
Rio/Wooton
Buttner

Fletcher
Scholes
Nani
Young

RVP
Hernandez

Nani and Ando should start, we should not restart stupid rotation policy and if is possible a rest for Rafael.

Rafael is 22, he's in great shape and great form. Momentum will do him better than a rest.

Lindegaard

Rafael - Smalling - Evans - Buttner

Fletcher

Anderson - Cleverley

Nani - Hernandez - Young

I'd be happy with something like that, a point is all that is really needed and that midfield could dominate while that attack has plenty of talent to get a few.

I would like to see a solid Carrick-Fletcher-Scholes midfield in front of our best back four. Defence and center midfield first. It's Europe away, so we should be a bit more cautious. The wingers and strikers can be of squad players.

Lots assuming Smalling will play.

Has the squad that will travel been issued or SAF made an announcement stating he is fit and ready to play?

--------------De Gea--------------
Rafael-----Rio-------Evans-----Evra
--------------Carrick---------------
-----Cleverley-------Anderson------
--------------Rooney--------------
-----------RVP-----Hernandez------

Subs: Lindegaard, Wootton, Fletcher, Scholes, Valencia, Young, Welbeck.

Get the 3 points, and get into the knockout stage. That's the most important thing.

Give Van Persie a rest and start Hernandez. Give Giggs a start in Rooney's position. Welbeck as left winger with Nani on the right. Fletcher and Anderson in the middle.

Lindegaard

Smalling Evans Wooton Buttner

Nani Fletcher Anderson Welbeck
Giggs

Hernandez

May see Giggs as well, and surely Rafael needs a little break now after clocking up the minutes

De Gea

Valencia--Evans--Smalling--Evra

Scholes--Fletcher--Anderson

Nani--Hernandez--Giggs

0-0 or 1-1 which will do just fine

this.....hopefully see smalling. if not....feck it through young keane in

I think it has to be Fletcher, Scholes, Anderson in the middle and then build the rest of the team around that. Hernandez needs to play and I'd love to see Nani get a start. Welbeck too if he's fit (don't know why he wasn't on the bench against Arsenal). So, I'd probably prefer to see:

Lindegaard
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Fletcher Scholes Anderson
Nani Hernandez Welbeck

Or

Lindegaard
Rafael Ferdinand Evans Evra
Scholes
Fletcher Anderson
Rooney
Hernandez van Persie

Valencia could replace Rafael at RB in either.
de Gea could still be favoured over Lindegaard, not fussed (but de Gea for Villa regardless).
I think Carrick is due a rest and Scholes hasn't played for three games, but wouldn't surprise me if it's Carrick.

Want us to win to lay down more of a marker, but I wouldn't bitch and moan about a draw either. I think it'll be quite a tough game so we need some form of counter attack to beat them. Players like Anderson, Hernandez, and Nani will offer that.

Part of Fletcher story:

Ferguson, meanwhile, admits he will rest players against Braga with United needing just one point from three remaining group games to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.
He said: “It will give me a chance to utilise my squad, so I’ll be making some changes for Wednesday.
"It (qualification) would give me options in terms of utilising Chris Smalling and Phil Jones to make sure that Rio Ferdinand’s fresh for all these games and I don’t have to worry about playing him Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, Wednesday. That’s an important issue.
“Smalling’s training fine, he’s been training for over a week now. I think he maybe ready not this week but next because we want to make sure he’s back and stays back.”

Lindegaard
Valencia, Smalling, Evans, Buttner
Scholes, Fletcher
Nani, Anderson, Giggs
Chicha

Rafael may be young but, he's not had a summer break, he's just played a whole lot of minutes and we have a short turn around to Saturday game. Why take the risk when he's been one of our best players and are short defenders.

CONFIRMED 20-MAN TRAVELLING SQUAD:

de Gea, Lindegaard
Rafael, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Smalling, Buttner
Valencia, Anderson, Giggs, Carrick, Nani, Young, Cleverley, Powell
Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, van Persie

Looking at that squad and with a few things in mind I am going to predict:

Lindegaard

Rafael - Carrick - Evans - Evra

Valencia - Anderson - Cleverley - Giggs

Rooney - van Persie

If we go a couple of goals up I expect to see Rooney and Van Persie off for Welbeck and Hernandez and Anderson off for Powell for obvious reasons.

De Gea

Rafael
Carrick
Evans
Evra

Cleverley
Anderson
Giggs

Chicharito
Welbeck
Nani

Draw at least please.

You've gone down the same lines as me but for 3 players, you've chosen a front 3 whereas I have gone 4-4-2 with Rooney and Van Persie.

Personally, I would go with your team, I think it's good enough to do it but I think he's going to get the game won with the big guns first.
