Fair enough, but i obviously ruffled a few feathers. I still have the PM in my inbox. You were angered and threatened to have me banned!

Similar to us then...they probably would, if faced with a load of muppets repeating that Alonso was as good as him, or claiming that you can't compare two players with different names, or something

Except that the Gerrard fans don't drone about how he is far greater than Alonso at every opportunity without being asked. This "we can agree Rooney is better than Ronaldo" business takes as many exciting twists and turns as another "Fletch is crap" thread. But constant repetition is a beloved hobby of many, I guess.

I don't think the management gives a feck. It wins free kicks.

Given SAF's experience of how the game works here, I doubt we blithely ignore it esp since those players who've been guilty of gamesmanship do cut down on it over time.

The thread invited comparisons kan, and well you know it

If I started a thread saying, "New Labour has been about Brown too, not just Blair", I'd fully expect it to lead to a comparison of their merits and records

Then you get people like reflectorboy, saying patently absurd things like that you can't say one player is better than another when they play in different positions - one of the most spastic comments ever made by anyone in history - and others saying we only think Rooney's better cos he's English. It was always clearly going to end up with us having to spell out the simple fact that Rooney's better, and that anyone who disagrees is gay.
can you say that van der saar is better than ruud?

Yes...but you'd be wrong. Ruud's better than Van der Sar.

Reflectorboy...are you absolutely sure you want to continue this line of yours? Do you think it's impossible to say that Ronaldinho's better at football than Ben Thatcher?

I'm not holding a very strict view concerning this but some things are too close to call, for instance now. And some things cannot be compared. For example the Ruud Vs Henry saga.
I think Rooney is a better footballer overall NOW compared with Ronaldo due to his maturity but I rather disagree that he is miles better than Ronaldo and the degrading of Ronaldo to a second class footballer who pales in every attribute in comparison with Rooney.
I love both, but I feel Ronaldo is underrated.

Rio is better than Fletch. So is Terry.

Frankly im glad we have both Ronnie and Rooney in our team.

I'm not. Ronaldo dives too much and delays on the ball. We should cash in to Madrid and Barca. Oh, and don't let him take shots or free-kicks anymore, he's useless at them.

It was a bloody joke. Read the last few pages, i've rested my case. In fairness anyway, you can't say that you haven't read everyone of those things i said on here on several occasions.

There's an ever so slight chance I wasn't being entirely serious myself you know...

Or to put it another way, you've now realised your premise was ridiculous - among the most spastic things ever uttered by man, in fact - and are now backtracking frantically

whatever u want to make out of it ;)

In terms of natural talent, both are just as good
in terms of performance on the pitch, Rooney is no doubt better and more completed than Ronnie
in fact, Rooney is by far the best player of his generation
few players could even be compared with him
however, Roonie was one of the few though
