Why do you think it is so popular? It’s simply down to entertaining matches and a competitive league.
The Premiership broadcasts to 212 territories around the world, and has just fewer than 100 broadcasters, far more than any other league.
Is it the best league in terms of teams? That’s simply down to personal judgement, however in terms of revenue, audience, heritage, culture and history the Premiership far outweighs any other league
If you speak about history then I cant debate since England invented football.I know about the revenue but the viewer is not interested in that. What do you mean about heritage and culture?.You put the most important factor of the balance, the quality of the teams as "personal judgement",a german can say the same about Bundesliga.Besides the best two players are playing here. The best show should have the best actors

If Ramos really wants to leave the club Madrid should try to get 45m euro + David.I dont like unhappy players. If all this is for the renewal, then I would pay a bit more to Sergio to stop the chance of including him in the talks. After that a final offer for David,I think that 25/30 is more than generous for a player in his last year.If they don't accept I would say to David that he has to stay 1 more year looking for another keeper instead

Sums up this whole transfer rumour.
Yeh come on let's stop playing games.
Ramos gets a new bumper pay rise and we get 10 mill for de gea and another million when he's played a thousand games for Madrid .
The usual shagged with our pants on routine from Madrid .
We should change our new kit to 11 court jesters with hats n bells on .

When have we ever been shagged with our pants by Madrid?

I think this is a great move by United, if it is true. The Ronaldo deal made a statement in 2008, where RM said - "we are the greatest club in the world and will buy whoever we want, everyone else (United included) are just next in line". The De Gea situation will reinforce this thinking, if he moves (still hoping he does not). Woodard/ Van Gaal should extract their pound of flesh from Madrid to make sure they know that United are not a 'selling club'. Who better than their 'captain elect' to do this.

If it does happen, I just hope the deal favours us (i.e. it is a straight swap with no cash), as De Gea is definitely more important to us than Ramos is to them.

Read a book white angels by a journo very close to Madrid. He had an entire chapter on the Becks transfer and said Madrid were shocked when we accepted that bid. It was right at the start of the negotiation.

We were terrible at selling players even then.

Was a really underwhelming fee, considering his age/profile and the fact that Barca wanted him badly as well (they got Ronaldinho because they failed to get Beckham, ironically, we wanted Ronaldinho but got Ronaldo instead).

Which journo was this, I won't mind reading that chapter myself. I remember Fergie talked about this in his autobiography. He said that the club had heard rumours of Beck's people talking to Madrid, and when the offer came in, he wasn't surprised. He sanctioned it straight away, because he thought Becks believed he was bigger than the manager and he wasn't tracking back in games like before. Something to do with the bald head and wearing a cap to the warm up ticked SAF off. Short fuse that guy!

I don't know the details but selling the most marketable and popular player of the time for 25m (in instalments) was retarded. They were able to pay the fee after 6 months. Also it also contributed greatly in paving the way for the Galactico era and showed the world who was really the biggest club in the world.

You are right, honestly would be a good punch to Madrid and our beloved ego :(

Fergie wanted rid, we could have got more for him yes but that's our fault nothing to do with Madrid bullying us so to speak.

Or maybe we fell in Beckham-Real trap and sold him on cheap.

I think you underestimate Ramos' importance. Without him the Madrid defense if a joke, not to mention that he is their leader on the field.

I don't remember tbh. It was ages back. You could Google the white angels book, might pop up. Regardless of whether we wanted to sell him, getting a proper fee is just common sense. You don't sell a player for peanuts just because you don't want him.

Yeah.

Maybe, but the point remains that Madrid did not bully us over that or any other deal. Any shortcomings were down to our inability to sell players

Calm down, man.

Well Beckham suddenly become acting like a cnut forcing SAF to sell, and guess what, it turns out that he wouldn't even consider any other bid apart from Real. We see the same scenario with RVN.

Mind you, I believe that United are incredibly naive in terms of the transfer market. However let us not kid ourselves in believing that Real hasn't taken us for a ride.

They have had some good players off us at a decent price alright, sadly that's mainly down to us. We just don't sell players for their true market value, that's on us, no one else IMO.

Well its the truth. Beckham paved the way for the Galactico mentality which saw Real buying every single top player around.

Really? Zidane, Ronaldo and Figo weren't enough Galactico for you?

'Paved the way' - Jesus Christ! You do love to undermine Fergie in order to big someone else. We let Beckham go, Real didn't force our hands.

Think there might be something in this.

It's probably a case of that we do actually want him, and he does want a shiny new contract preferably, but is willing to leave if he doesn't get it.

Juventus was always a selling club, Inter (during Ronaldo's time) were the third best club in Italy who passed most of their time, either making stupid deals or blaming Juventus for everything under the sun while Barcelona were clearly the second best club in Spain and nowhere near to the juggernaut it is today.

Beckham's deal was somehow different. They managed to take the crown jewel (at least from the sales point of view) from the most successful, marketable and richest club in Britain. Also after Beckham we were powerless in stopping any of our players from going to Real. Beckham for us is the equivalent to what Teddy Sheringham was for Spurs. It open the flood gates and deep down every Spurs fan know that if United wants a player they will probably get it. Same thing about us and Real. If Real wants one of our players than they will get it.

Also note that you're the one who mentioned SAF and not me. All I said was that selling Beckham for 25m was plain stupid.

It's inevitable that he will sign a new contract, Woody is simply using Ramos to strong arm Real to pay a decent fee for DDG.

I think we're desperate not to come out from that deal looking like idiots. Unfortunately it won't be the case since Real hold all the cards. That is what happens when you allow a quality player to enter his last year of contract.

There doing it now with de gea .

De geas shafted us by not signing a new deal . No doubt he's been tapped up behind our backs .
As far as I'm aware he's NOT FOR SALE , he's 12 months left on his deal so he and Madrid can feck off . Let him see his deal out then he can do what he likes . Feck the money .

18 pages already but did someone answered the key question?

Can he do it on cold night in Stoke?

Couldn't agree more, Woody doesn't want to look weaker in this situation hence the insistent of acquiring one of their top players-if we were to pull off this signing it would dampen the blow massively.
