I heard it during the Thiago debacle.Rumour has it, when you reach the full muppet stage, you start to hear strange voices whispering transfer shit in your ear. I've never been there yet personally.

I heard he played over 120 times for Spain purely on the strength of his beard
They'd rather us sign some teenager from the championship for £1.2m.
Helguera has 2 CL's how many does Ramos have?
I don't know if you have noticed but Mascherano plays as a CB for Barcelona.
Just checked the exchange rate. Euro isn't doing to we'll, is it?Euros
You mean European Championships..So, Ramos has two world cups. What a ridiculous argument ffs!
He has, but his preferred position is defensive midfield. Arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world right now.
I would not go that far but, I would put it on the record and say I think signing John Stones would be a much better move for the club.
Not much between them over the last few years but yeah last season in particular I think Ramos over took him. Squawka comparison matrix below. Not sure how Pepe has the better overall defensive score when Ramos out performs him in every stat I added to it
@Enigma_87
Based on last season La Liga performances

I'm curious what the general opinion is of this, so have added a poll to this thread and featured it on the homepage.
This doesn't excite me, a strange one if it happens. Surely there are better, longer term investments we can make. This feels like a stop gap solution and an expensive one at that. I'm not even convinced he's that great a defender.
The initial post that you quoted I already mentioned club level, we're not talking Euros or internationals. So, Ramos has two European Championships. What a ridiculous argument ffs!

Guess it's that time of year again..

He was the defensive rock of those 2 great teams. How was he often caught out? You think Pique carried him then?
Just imagine if we signed Ramos independently of a DDG deal, and then Ramos convinced him to stay.Too much to ask for, sure, but I've love to royally shaft over Real Madrid for once.
I don't know how the "defensive score" is formed there but from what I see Pepe has double the score Ramos has.
Here's a better picture:

Check their stats for cards, tackles lost and fouls committed for the last three years. Pepe has always outperformed Ramos:

Ramos started as a right back, he also played on numerous occasions as a DM. Mascherano has played in most of his career at Barca as a CB and is more decorated than Ramos, does that make him a better CB?

Definitely. That's the last thing we need, it's not even a debate really. We need experience to compliment the potential we already have.I would much rather not sign anyone than spend on another young English defender
Rojo hard as nails?

I don't understandy why would anybody blame him for last summer.
We got Di Maria, who had an outstanding season for Madrid in midfield, and who was called as one of the best wingers around by LvG. This transfer made made a lot of sense.
We were also very happy about Falcao deal once we got the news. Loaning him was a smart move.
It's not Woodward fault that Falcao forgot how to play football and Di Maria wasn't good enough to play ahead of Young.
No.Possibly it does, but why would that take away from Ramos being one of the best in the world today?
I simply stated that Ramos is one of the better CB's in our generation, not that he was the greatest of all time. Which is more than fair.
I was joking feck sake! To be fair, Ramos has won it all, more than Keane. He'll go down as a great CB from our generation, no doubt about it.
More inexperience in the back line, thats exactly what we need
Evans - injury prone and lost confidence
Jones - injury prone / accident waiting to happen
Smelling - injury prone
Rafael - injury prone
Shaw - injury prone
Carrick and Valencia have had to play defence
This is why Ramos is not only ideal (experience, skilled, leader, flexible, not injury prone) he is a necessity
No.
Your initial quote was:
Which IMO is bollocks.
Here's another thread 3 years ago:
https://www.redcafe.net/threads/top-tier-cbs-in-the-world-right-now.354049/
where there is 1 mention of Ramos that shortly gets dismissed afterwards by couple of posters.
This thread is a bit like the one with Firmino. We're linked with him everyone is excited, he signs for Pool and he's shite.
Ramos is one of the better CB's yes, but nothing more. Kompany gets trashed week in and week out for some mistakes and believe me, they are not more than what Ramos does.
I really do not think the defensive situation is as dire as people are making it out to be. Jones and Smalling looked like a capable pairing late in the season and Rojo should improve next season since he has had a year to adjust to the club and English Football. I think we just need another CB to battle out with Jones, Smalling and Rojo since we have reached the point of no return with Evans.
