Shinji Kagawa

Made an immense difference today. First half we were in our own box all game while second half was pretty even to be honest. Kagawa showed great composure on the ball, good decision making and carried the ball well. Great movement and touches too.

He started running at full speed for the first time since Dortmund. Been waiting 2 years to see him move quicker than a snail. Got the feeling he was showing off and upping his speed because he was playing a German side, did the same against Leverkusen away.

Why does he not run that quickly normally?

Because usually our players are usually standing around.

He had a positive impact. Kept the ball well in tight spaces and contributed to some nice interplay. He also won the corner leading up to our goal? Also this performance (as do his other performances for us) proves that he can defend. He has to start the next game.

One of Kagawa's best aspects is his pressing. Ridiculous to think we would be defensively weaker when he's playing. When he came on in the second half, he pressed their CBs relentlessly and they couldn't build attacks at all.

Surely at this point Moyes sees how good a player Kagawa is and can be for the team and how important a player he can become. I'll still remain reserved, especially after all the other times Kagawa has looked good only to be dropped but he's I'm starting to think we could see him finally get a good run of games for the team.

He's been especially good in Europe this season. Surely his naysayers like Pogue, charleysurf and akash can finally see what he brings to the team?

No, them and Pocco will wait until he's had a bad game or doesn't play for 3 weeks and jump in with the shit talking. You can set your watch to it at this point.

I like him as a player, fits the kind of player United have alwasy had. Ill be gutted if he gets sold just because someone doesnt rate him.

Must start the 2nd leg. No brainer. It's so obvious now that more than 99.999999999999% of us should know it.

The last 2 times he's bizarrely dropped him after a good game, he subbed him on at half too so maybe Moyes finally realized that he's got an excellent player on his hands. Sure took his sweet time in doing so.

This always grinds my gears.

"Oh, Young and Valencia are starting ahead of Kagawa? Well, I guess we need defensive stability. Good choice by Moyes!"
"Oh, Rooney is playing as an AM today? Well, he protects the midfield so well, so that's a given.."

I thought his presence and obvious energy helped but his passing in their half was off. Against Bayern it's not the end of the world as he's obviously starting to stake a claim as a starter now. He clearly benefits from being on a wavelength with Mata and you can tell he was looking for that link up.

I thought he added a lot to us when he came on as he gave them more to worry about and gave Danny someone to work off/with instead of being so isolated. I feel he's on a decent run of form.

Shocker. He's getting regular displays now and has turned it up a notch. Anyone could see it coming.

He has to play in every game. He's crucial to tying our attack together, especially in the CL where Mata is unavailable. It's crucial that we keep him this summer.

Great performance today, I might have made a off the cuff remark in the match day thread but I was just pissed off at the sight of Ashley young coming on. He needs more game time if he is to stamp his authority on our attacks. He eased the pressure off welbeck and also got forward more quickly than giggs who was left with just hoofing the ball forward. More shinji, please.

Certainly had a positive impact, not a brilliant performance but he helped us get up the pitch a bit and pass it better. We pretty much always play better when he's on, and these Bayern matches are much more up his alley than Giggs'.

A thing that really helped was his movement I think. Always opened up to receive a pass, so we wouldn't be pointlessly hoofing it and could actually play something. Had some very good first touches as well, like one in their box or close to it at the end of the game. Took it down effortlessly. Just gives us more composure on the ball and is clearly so talented. Delighted he's finally getting games though and Moyes opened his eyes and realized we have a top player here. Keeps this up and we won't need to get that left winger people have been banging on about. Rooney-Mata-Kagawa with Januzaj, Welbeck, Valencia and Nani rotating around is more then enough.

On a side note, he's been in great form. Promising sub appearance vs West Brom, then a great game against West ham and against Villa, decent against City when everyone else pretty much gave up and now today. He's been pretty good in all his sub appearances since the turn of the year really, even though they've been very rare until March.

Thought he improved our forward play tonight when he came on.

He only came on because Giggs was injured mind. Hopefully Moyes is seeing how useful he is for us now.

I agree with this. I feel we generally play better with Kagawa in the side.

This is exactly why I think Kagawa is an important player for us and has been criminally underutilized by Moyes. His movement off the ball to support play is what we need to unlock teams and is a step forward in abandoning the rigid formation which saw us produce tumescent football time and time again in our side.

Think most of us can agree that Shinji, on the basis of his performance over the last few games, has rescued his United future.

If he still wants it rescued. Wouldn't blame him for leaving.

His introduction brought great vision to the midfield... was really happy with his performance.
