Shinji Kagawa

Our version of David Silva

With goals, just the way Sir Alex likes his players in that position. I personally think that's the reason we were hesitant to pay huge money for players like that - not enough goals in such an influential attacking position. We've generally always played forwards there rather than midfielders, the likes of Cantona and co. rather than Silva and co. Shinji offers the best of both worlds.

Just seen the game...

Shinji looked impressive. Judging by today's performance he has great touch, a knack of finding space, and a nice burst of pace.

Which is

Every touch in the game. Watching this, Pertrucci looks class aswell.

Everyone around him seemed on a level lower to him. I can't wait to see him play regularly with Rooney, Nani and Welbeck.

This. He really looks like he's a step above in terms of touch and awareness. Worth adding Young to that list, he's actually got a great first touch.

Only bad news is that it highlights how piss poor Chicarito has looked on the tour.

I am expecting Kagawa to supplant Welbeck right away and would be shocked if he didn't.

Same. But I think Welbeck will still get a fair share of games, as Kagawa can play on the left as well, so I could see him supplanting Young in that position.

Obviously it will all depend on the form of the players, but his versatality gives us great options.

Thought he was terrible the first half - like everyone on the team. But he really shown, interestingly enough, when Bebe came on. Somehow Bebe has presence unlike our Macheda and Hernandez, and Shinji came alive when there was more space to play in.

I'm excited by him. But his presence there, at least at the moment, just further shines a light on the fact that too many of our players don't match his skill set. We still need two players I feel in midfield.

I may (will) get slated for this, but for me - Bebe has more potential (in the PL at least) than Macheda. Now that isn't saying much, but feck me, what is it that Macheda offers? Pace? No. Touch. No. Shot. No. Passing. No. Intelligent movement? Not that I can see. Finishing? Maybe, but what good is that without the rest?

Now some of that may be a series of exaggerations, but IMO, Macheda isn't either good enough, or the type of player that would thrive in United's style of play. That isn't saying Bebe is, but in his defense he's only been playing competitive football (whilst not injured) for about a total of two months.

I hope the Sky and ESPN commentators do a better name pronouncing his name than the MUTV commentator.

Another thing from yesterday that I noticed was that you can really tell the players know Kagawa is good. It didn't matter how many players he had round him or how much easier it was to make the more simple pass to someone else - it was always Kagawa we played through. Granted that his position and our formation dictated that sort of approach, but it was great seeing us have a player in advanced central positions that was consistently composed under pressure. I'm tempted really to say that the only other player we have that is similar in this aspect is Nani, although an on form Rooney is similar (as in a REALLY on form Rooney...when he's right on his game like).

Very excited about this young fella. Only saw him play 2 or 3 times for Dortmund last season, but I could tell there is something special about him. Always wanting the ball, always moving, the positions he picks up in between midfield and attack, and he can only improve.

Btw, does anyone know what the correct pronounciation of his name is?

Ka-gawa or Ka-ga-wa (with the emphasis on the 'ga')

I like that he plays the ball quickly and moves immediately. Last season, we have been too static (2nd half of the season tbf) and slow - we need to get back to that like we did in the first few games

Pretty sure they said kaga-wa according to paddy / the other commentary man, they said thats how his interpretor told him to say it.

I saw the Ajax match live and I paid particular attention to Kagawa's play. What was most encouraging was his movement in always making himself available for the pass. Scholes will certainly love this. He looked calm under pressure and always seemed to know where his next pass will go and where he will next receive the ball. The thing that impressed me most was that he kept things simple. If, and this depends on SAF, he plays in a midfield 3 (say in Europe) then I can see him clicking really well with Carrick and Scholes as he will be a vital outlet who will know what to to do with the ball. At least, this is the feeling I got from watching him live.

And this is where I quote myself after seeing playing live vs Ajax CPT. He showed all those strengths in his game again yesterday.

I can't wait to see him playing with Scholes. Tiki-Taka

There is little emphasis in Japanese words so emphasising the middle syllable is wrong. MUTV's commentator was correct in pronunciation.

In fairness Kagawa's so good you don't even need to see him live to see all that. Love his movement.

It would have been disappointing had that not been the case seeing he was playing with mostly youth and reserve players.

By this whole retarded logic. If someone signs Bale for 35m and Messi for 35m, no comparisons should be made because the former has shown he can play well in the Prem, whilst the latter hasn't yet.

Shinji Kagawa - the new Messi. You heard it here first.

No pressure on the lad here then.

Ffs. I wasn't comparing Messi to Kagawa. Can't believe I need to explain this to some.
