Shinji Kagawa

To be honest he's still getting used to linking up with RVP. I've seen many chances whereby the final ball is just off or he didn't see any of RVP's final runs. Still early days, but the signs do look encouraging though.

Got an assist. But overall play is still not up to mark yet.

It's hard to prepare new players for Liverpool-United derbies. The atmosphere is always intense and hostile, the opposition players press hard and play physical giving you no time on the ball. Good for Kagawa to have this derby under his belt.

Too me he looks dangerous whenever he gets the ball, but he doesn't get it nearly enough. Need to get him more involved.

Kinda disappointed by him in general.I expected a little bit better even if it's difficult for him when our style of play is taken into consideration

Not his best game but got an assist and our best spell of possession was when he became more involved. It would help him if the CMs played better.

He can do so much more. He's been okish for us so far, but I feel he was much more suited to the way Dortmund played.

Without a doubt.He hasn't settled in yet

I don't know if he will ever be able to flourish the way he did with the Dortmund players.
It's early doors and all but we play so differently to them. I really hoped we would change the way we approach games when we signed him and RvP, playing with pace through the middle and Nani and Valencia cutting in provided with through balls.
But we don't. (so far anyway) and expect them to change the way they play. And that doesnt bring the best out of him imo.

I think it's more down to the fact that Fergie almost refuses to change his style of play, and continously keeps relying on our old guard, while it's becoming less efficient each year, especialy against high pressing opposition.

Not sure we know how to get the best from him. We need to get him into positions where he can play those clever through balls. Not sure we do that enough. More often we'll just go wide and cross into the box.

I thought the pace looked a bit much for him today but there were also times where he moved into space and the midfield just lobbed the ball out to the wings as usual.

He still has room to improve but he and RvP get ignored so many times when going forward, that it's really hard for him to shine atm.

We just can't seem to shake our habit of always going over Valencia or Nani to initiate our attacks.

I don't think so, Dortmund plays much faster then we do and their fast game actually seemed to suite him quite well.

If anything we play to slow for him oh yeah and like you said always going over the wings doesn't really help getting him involved.

I was meaning the pace that Liverpool were hounding us at, the Bundesliga never looks as intense as that to me

He struggled with the physicality a bit. But he'll quickly come to terms with that. This time next season he'll be an outstanding player for us.

It seems like he's also getting in tune with our zombie like football.

This is my concern. I really hope we don't 'educate' him into a different way of playing - it feels like that at the moment as he's playing cautiously. The chest down for Rafael was fantastic though.

He'll get there, he is technically brilliant and he drew so many fouls from Liverpool players who didn't know how to handle his first touch.

We need to play cleverley and Anderson in midfield more often. Add some pace into it with the same sort of passing and mindset of Kagawa.

Has been decent at best for us so far.

Imo he is finding the physicality and lack of time in the PL a bit challenging. Although he hasn't had a nightmare game so far.

Hopefully settles in soon.

Don't think it has much to do with the PL. He'd flourish at Arsenal.

I think the EPL will be too physical for him..

When was the last time an asian player succeeded in this league....and please don't say say Park?

You don't think he can be a success in the PL?

Has the talent, but will need to get stronger, demand the ball and do more with it.

Still, very exciting prospect because the technical skill and vision is there.

We probably shouldn't have expected him to settle so quickly. His performances from the start have been very assured. So much that it was a surprise to see him struggling with the basics. Passing and controlling the ball seems to come naturally to him.

He still got an assist though, so his footballing brain is still working away. This game looked quite physical and mentally draining but it's all part of the learning curve for him. Gonna be a top player for us.

How many assists does he have for us already? Must be a good few now.

What does him being asian have anything to do with anything? He's a skillful playmaker that can score goals, occasionally they do get out-muscled.

Yes but the way we play, he has too much burden to create chances and is the only one with a different style of play.

Whereas at Arsenal they are all passers.

Tbf there haven't been Asian players this good ever before as well.

Pyong Yong Lee looked good for a side like Bolton before his unfortunate injury.

Being asian has nothing to do with it. Silva is of a similar build and does fine.

I can only remember him being tackled and losing the ball once today. He's not exactly being bullied off the ball in every game is he? I think he's already quite good at not letting his lack of physicality be a disadvantage, he won quite a few freekicks today because he knows how to position his body.
