That looks awesome. This signing definitely gives us better options when we opt to change shape.

Looking at that formation and the players in our squad you would say that we are in good shape.

Striker role: Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez
#10 role: Kagawa, Giggs, Young, Rooney
Wings: Valencia, Nani, Young
Centre midfield: Carrick, Scholes, Anderson, Cleverley
RB: Rafael, Jones, Smalling
CB: Vidic, Rio, Evans, Smalling, Jones

Left-back cover probably needed with Fabio loaned out.

I'm hoping with Kagawa in the hole there will be some interchanging of positions that will allow Young and Nani to come in off the flank a bit more. Young looked deadly early in the season when he did this.

He should offer us the option of either playing 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 in an advanced midfield role. Previously in 4-5-1's we've never had a player who specializes in creating through the middle and linking the midfield and attack which will be important in Europe and big league games.

Looks good. My only concern is whether we still have a defensive type midfielder in there. I don't profess to be an expert on formations so I'll be intrigued to see a line up with Kagawa in it

Yup. That's the really tough one because we don't just want someone whose going sit and snuff out attacks. We sort of need a very well rounded defense minded midfielder to compliment the rest of the side. Anyhow that's for another thread. Excited to see how Anderson cleverley and kagawa affect our play next season.

I'm delighted about this signing but I am certain we still need serious competition for Carrick; we need a ball-winner with an eye for a pass. He doesn't even have to be a Martinez or a De Rossi, I'd be happy with Fellaini or Tiote. Other than that I don't think we are in need of further reinforcement, Evans can cover left-back and we have plenty of cb's to cover him.

Think SAF will use him more as a wide playmaker like City use Silva. From the pursuit of Nasri last year we know that SAF has been looking for this sort of player for a while.

Kagawa is different to all our wingers. Exciting.

Did we agree in the transfer thread that the work permit wasn't going to be an issue?
In terms of the games he missed he wasn't available for selection (injury or whatever)

But on the signing, I think this will instantly go a long way to making us stronger in Europe again, as we'll revert to the 451/433/4231 that gave success previously, with Rooney being flanked by two from Nani, Young and Valencia and Kagawa in the space behind. As Rooney is more effective than our other options at leading the attack

Have you seen Dortmund play this year? Kagawa looks a Manchester United player to me: he's such a classic counter attacking player.

I did see a couple of Champions League games but I cant remember him at all, I'd never heard of him to be honest, anyway he must be good with all this excitement I guess.

Very happy about this signing. I haven't seen too much of him so can't say much on his abilities but if what I read is true then we've got a great player on our hands. But lots has been made about his role/position, if it is the second striker role then surely we are changing our system up for next season? (assuming he's a starter)

I agree that we need another central midfield player. Of the four I listed only Carrick is in his peak years. Scholes is obviously in his last season and Cleverley and Anderson (despite his lengthy spell at the club) are still prospects really. So hopefully this will be addressed. Martinez or Modric would be very nice but, as you say, somebody in the tier below that would still be a welcome addition.

I still think we need left-back cover. We've been lucky that Evra simply doesn't get injured. If he were to get a long-term injury it would not be ideal to play Evans there for a long period of time. Especially when you consider how reliant we were on him in the centre last season. Plus, Evra could do with the competition. The thing is, I wouldn't want to sign anyone that would block Fabio's path as I still think he is an excellent prospect.

This is my feeling, I would prefer to keep Fabio in England and give him more football. Next season Vidic will be captain so Evra wont need to play so much. If we do sign it might not be a bad idea to offer an older, experienced player a year in England.

To be honest I thought Gotze was their best midfielder

Most talented, yes, but he's only 19 years old and just signed a 6 year contract, never happening.

Kagawa is class, I'm delighted we got him, for £12m too!

Just wait for guidance from gambit, he's a modern day moses, guiding the muppets to where they need to be

Aye. I still think my Shaun Derry-idea might fly here. I've watched the old fecker at times this year and thought "you know, he might just do a job.."

Says a lot about the state of our CM.

Also Kicker may be worth listening to again in future.

I wonder how long this Kagawa to United has been in the offing, as when Dortmund signed Marco Reus from Mnchengladbach I presumed that it was because Götze was leaving, seems it was actually more of a replacement for Kagawa

Henriquez, but that won't happen until august.

Congratulations on the signing, he's a gem of a player...Lot of potential to add a very lethal contribution to the attack...Mentioned this before when it was still rumoured, I like the move for Kagawa better than had United landed Hazard...The fit will be better, I believe, and it did not have to break the bank allowing for continued fortification

And the truth is, I'm very curious to see how he can elevate his own game too because it's clear there's a tiger of a player in there

For those less than ecstatic, I suggest paying closer attention to players when you scout them in matches - the headline players are not always the prize

can't wait to see him in a United shirt

the great thing about those videos is the weight on the passing is perfect - almost scholes-like

he's comfortable with both feet it seems as well

got a great feeling about this one

I think it's certainly going to be interested to see who has the better season/career between Hazard and Kagawa at their respective clubs.
