Shinji Kagawa

What position is he playing today? Can only flick in and out of a stream today :(

He is quickly becoming overrated here and by the commentators. He is decent and should be left at that. Just as players take time to settle in and we normally say on here to give them time when they have bad starts, so should restraint be exercise in the accordance of praise.

What a bloody stupid decision it was to take him off today. Seriously, what was the point? Every good thing was going through him.

Then surprise surprise, he comes off, and we turn to shit.

We couldn't possibly just leave Rooney off, doesn't matter how it will effect the team.

Good shout!
Plus Fulham was coming into the game before he came off he looked like he was tiring. Still looks a quality addition for us.

You could see the difference in our attacking threat immediately after his substitution. He has to be one of the first names on the sheet.

Central midfielders cover the most ground on the pitch, Xavi will be covering more ground than the other Barcelona players until he retires because it's just the kind of player he is. Scholes is the same.
I realise that. But I would still expect a few players such as the wingers and other central mid fielders to be in front of an aging scholes in terms of distance covered.

In terms of Kagawa, another good game from him. Not sure why he was subbed off. Good to see him break his duck with the goal as well.

Thought he was very impressive again, still working on his understanding with the team but looks a great signing and looks a hard worker too which is good. More and more though I just think we need him in the hole. It was noticeable how different he is there too Rooney or RVP who dropped in after he left. He just takes up better positions to help the midfielders out.

Could be interesting if Rooney is out for a few games. Given a solid run in the side in the hole I wonder if he might just put some questions in Fergie's mind about whether he really wants to put him in a wider area long term. But with RVP and Rooney both being world class players, you'll think he has too.

Yeah but remember Welbeck, Nani and Clev all went off, I've only seen the sats showing how much distance kagawa and scholes covered but those guys might not have been far behind and might have overtaken scholes had they played the full 90.

He was pretty much the best player in the bundesliga last year and tore apart the likes of Bayern. I don't think he is being overrated or just "decent", in two premiership games he has scored and could easily have had three or four assists.

Looks our best player right now and should start so long as that is the case.

Looks special. Can't wait to see him, Cleverley and Welbeck grow together.

Please don't sub him like that again.

This.

Attack looked shapeless after Shinji went off. Had no idea what we were trying to do with Van Persie when Rooney came on.

Not likely to ever see that. Centre midfielders are constantly moving, hardly ever walking (Anderson is an exception :smirk:)... Wingers are mainly short bursts of movement with and without the ball and then tracking back occasionally.

I'd be extremely worried if we had our wingers covering more ground than our central midfield, no matter what age.

Eh?! Wingers cover a huge amount of ground up and down the line, supporting play and counter attacking.

Another promising display by him. Signs are looking good.

Van Persie should have come off for Rooney. He was actually quite poor apart from the (fantastic) goal. We seemed to move Van Persie into Kagawa's position to try and get him in the game...but we already had someone in the game playing in that position in Kagawa.

What didn't help was Anderson and half the rest of the team fecking off for the second half. It left Kagawa and Cleverley with too much to do.

Makes it look easy to keep the ball and play the right passes in tight spaces. Exactly the type of player we have been missing for a 5 man midfield. A shame we took him off as Rooney really looked well out of form in comparison.

Brilliant for us so far. The way he links up the play is something we have been lacking in midfield. He's going to be creating so much chances through the middle for us in the future.

Loved the chant for him at OT today. To the tune of Radio Gaga -

All we need is, Shinji Kagawa, Shinji Kagawa, Shinji Kagawa

The repetition doesn't really work but it made me smile
