Shinji Kagawa

He's either not over 30 years old enough, or doesn't play consistently poorly enough to merit inclusion.

The last time he played against Villa for example, not only did he run around like some guy only in his mid twenties, but he was linking with the forward players, beating defenders and setting up chances.

There's no room for anything like that at United anymore. It might be classed as entertaining which would be a disaster. What he needs to learn to do is stand still with the ball more, cross it directly off the pitch, and play over hit through balls over the top to no one in particular.

very surprised at his non-inclusion today - but then I thought Hernandez would start aswell.

Same here. If we really want to intergrate him into the team for next year, shouldn't we be trying to give him as many games as possible, particularly now when we've got a couple extra games to go?

Ideally, yes.

But looking at it from Fergie's perspective, it does make sense to not play him as well. First of all, Kagawa has been MOTM(depending on who you ask) in 2 of his last 4 PL starts, and in the other 2 he also played well. He's also scored 3 and assisted 2 in said games. I think the signs are pretty clear: Kagawa is getting there! There is no stopping him now. That is why there's no need to rush him. He's just 24 years old and he hasn't been around for even a year. He's got a lot of time left here.

Meanwhile, players like Cleverley, Anderson and Jones still have something to prove. Cleverley, while good, is not first XI material yet. That he's a "sure starter" for us is only because we don't have good CMs bar Carrick. As for Anderson, he's been around for 6 seasons now if I'm not mistaken, but he's yet to become a first team regular. His time is running out. Jones is still very young, but since Fergie seems to have a lot of faith in him, it makes sense to play him. We must also keep in mind that Rooney is ahead of Kagawa in the pecking order(sadly).

The last two games have been league games against Arsenal and Chelsea. Even if we've already won it, Fergie was never going to put out our B-squad. Certain regulars were sure to start, as Fergie loves to combine youth with experience in these matches. There's a big contrast between Jones, Cleverley, Anderson and Giggs, RVP, Valencia.

Business as usual, in my opinion. There's no need to worry about Kagawa. He'll play a much bigger part next season. And if he reaches his potential, then there's no player in our current squad who can stop him from becoming a regular starter. Even in AM.

My take on this :

SAF has assured Kagawa that he'll feature next season, this being his first season and all.

Hernandez probably as well, SAF might wanted to sell rooney and stuff

So... they're probably guaranteed to feature more next season and this meaningless match are used for medal purpose, showcase, final match, etc.

And Hernandez haven't got anything to prove, playing in a meaningless match won't change any of SAF's valuation on him.

Then how do you explain Sir Alex sending him on in the last few minutes? We didn't like grabbing a goal.

I guess my biggest problem is not being able to watch him play. He's definitely grown in stature and influence this season- and I love watching his linkup play.

I agree with this. I genuinely get disappointed everytime he's not in the starting XI.

He's the future. Let's embrace it.

Personally, I love watching him play and I hope he gets a central role more often that he was afforded this season.

Totally agree, make him a central part of this team and I think we are going to see great things from the guy, his talent was obvious from the start but he is really growing into the team.

The way he controls the ball so closely and works himself some space to find the pass is brilliant.

Makes everything look so easy. Will be tremendous next year.

He'd be fecking dynamite if whenever we have a bit more of a counter attacking style. Sees things...and at lightning speed too!

If only swansea haven't decided to park the bus and actually came out to attack once in a while. Kagawa is brilliant on the counter.

We need runners around him to get the best out of him.

I've said it numerous times now, he's the future. Let's embrace it.

He has the potential to be very influential in our (hoped) future success. He's only going to get better and hopefully Moyes builds our attack around him. I genuinely feel he is that good.

We need to develop a style more suited to his qualities before we'll really see the best of him, which is part of the reason I'm so keen to see Nani stay.

If we play him in an attacking midfield role with a style and team that suits him, he'll be one of our best players. As others have said the talent is there and he's a very skilled footballer, but the problem this season has been fitting him in.

He's absolutely fantastic at finding space in and around the box.

Kagawa has been on it today. Given the freedom to roam and interchange with the other midfield players has allowed Shinji to pop up all over the park causing all sorts of chaos for West Brom. Something like a Japanese David Silva. Very impressive.

The real David Silva is Japanese himself.

He's had a really good run of games now. Great way to finish off the season! If I were to categorize his season, it would be something like this:

- Part 1, Pre-season and the first two PL games: Very good and promising.
- Part 2, The other games before the injury: Decent, but nothing special.
- Part 3, The injury: Well, he was injured so...
- Part 4, The first months after the injury: Not enough play time, and almost always out of position. Decent, but nothing special.
- Part 5, The last 2-3 months: Very good! Could(and should) easily start every game from now on.

Bit behind the times there, Klopp. Now that he's settled in, Kagawa's been playing where he belongs, and doing it well.

When asked about the cruel loss of Götze, the 45-year-old is initially philosophical. "It's absolutely normal that people go different ways. At 18 I wanted to see the whole world. But I am only in Mainz and Dortmund since then and … [Klopp laughs] it's not the middle of the world. It's OK that they want to go to different places. But they get there and, shit, it's not the same. Look, you work for the Guardian, and sometimes you see your colleagues and think: 'Oh no, the same old thing every day.' Maybe you want to go to the Sun? More money, less work. More photographs, [fewer] words."

 Klopp said a swear word. That's pretty funny though about the Sun and Guardian.

That really is quite a fantastic interview from Klopp. Loved reading his thoughts about everything from Munich to pre season training.

Deliciously cutting analogy. Nothing whatsoever to do with the actual situation (thrashing Barca 7-0 on agg. is not 'more pictures'), but worth it nonetheless.

Might be against the grain here, but I think Rooney - Kagawa would work better than van Persie/Hernandez - Kagawa. Rooney is more suited than the latter(s) as the 'battering ram' to allow Kagawa more freedom for his 'in the hole' role.

It didn't help that we've not had a left winger continually fit all season, either Welbeck or Kagawa were the obvious choices when you take that in to consideration. It's a position we're weak in, and apart from Bale there isn't really an easy solution to filling it.

Having no real left winger didn't help but the fundamental reason he was played out wide was down to Rooney and Van Persie. With those two in the team there wasn't much hope of him playing centrally, even though I would love him to.

I'd love to see him played there as well, he's a natural playmaker, his first touch and weight of passing is world class.

You dont need a battering ram, you need good movement. Hernandez - Rooney worked because Hernandez was creating space in front of him. RVP - Rooney works because RVP is creating space in front of him. Hernandez - RVP works because Hernandez is making space in front of RVP in the 10 role. RVP and Hernandez are exactly the right kind of players to have in front of Kagawa. In fact RVP is one of the most like for like players for Lewandowski who Kagawa played off of so well at Dortmund. And I can completely understand Klopp's comments about Shinji. When we signed Kagawa it seemed like a great piece of business but things changed a little when we signed RVP too and were clearly going to play Rooney behind him. But now we can get rid of the fat one and allow Kagawa to do what he does best.
