Shinji Kagawa

Hard to really judge too much against such poor opposition, but will be good for his confidence and should start at the weekend.

Leverkusen are ahead of Dortmund in the league so how are they bad? We are making them look bad, and we have also been slightly lucky with our set-pieces.

Fair enough! I do think we've looked better with him in there than with Rooney as a no 10 though. The problem with that sometimes is being able to point out specific moments in the match and maybe that pass provides us with one.

Well, you could argue that Rooney is still on the pitch and also bossing the game, even with Kagawa there his role hasn't really changed, and his link up play with Kagawa has helped him look as good as he has (at times).

We only ever win games because the opposition is atrocious, don't you know?

We may have to wait to see the average positions after full time, but Id say Rooney is further up than where he tends to play as a second striker or whatever he is when he partners Rvp or Chicha. And Kagawa has occupied a lot more of that space than when he starts on the left.

It's just one game, but I don't think it's a coinscidence that we played the best game of the season so far. Kagawa did everything right except for scoring and assisting. Give him more time and the goals and assists are sure to come.

The best part for me today was his movement. The myth about Kagawa not helping the central midfielders out needs to die now. He was everywhere out there, constantly making runs into good positions. Leverkusen eventually had to foul him a million times.

Rooney and RVP might be better players on paper, and they might create more goals and assists between them. But if we want to play world class football, then we need a proper AM. Today's game being exhibit A.

Your move, Moyes.

If RVP is fit, i can't see him playing this weekend. He was good tonight though, but Giggs playing like a proper midfielder helped him out no end too.

You really sound like you dislike him.

I love Shinji, he's a top footballer, but people go completely overboard with him here at times, made the first goal, played amazing, better as a #10 than Rooney, seriously, after that performance? He was good, he wasn't great.

My problem isn't with Kagawa, it's with the universal adoration he somehow gets for no apparent reason.

Really promising performance tonight. Involved in so much of our good play. 10mins into the 2nd half I thought he was gonna disappear like we've seen a few times but he worked his way back into the game and that pass for the Smalling goal was delightful.

Hope hen starts in the #10 behind Rooney on Sunday.

No, that'll be the Valencia thread. Kagawa was obviously very good tonight.

He was definitely very good, but he wasn't world class, he wasn't responsible for the first goal, he wasn't better as a #10 than Rooney.

It's always extremes with him on here.

He makes us so much more easy on the eye. Having a passer like Giggs behind him helped a lot as well. Play him on the weekend ahead of Fellaini-Cleverley and he'll never be found when taking up good positions.

He started the attack, and played Rooney in before the cross. Of course he was partly responsible.

It's a reaction to the shitting on he gets around here from some.

The sillier one side gets, the other side reciprocates in an effort to offset it.

Was excellent today. Used the ball very smartly, and made our play so much more fluid. Just unlucky for him that we have two world class strikers at the club.

From who?

I've seen people say stuff like that a few times but ... he doesn't. I think he's very widely accepted on here as a really good footballer, if you want to see players get a shitting, go to the Valencia, Fellaini, Nani, Welbeck, Cleverley, Anderson, Young etc etc threads, by all accounts, Kagawa is treated far nicer on here than most players on our team.

"Made the first goal" was ridiculous to say the least but it can be said that he played amazingly tonight.

He was brilliant and linked up well with Rooney. If Van Persie is out then he needs to start at the weekend in the number 10 role, it suits him so much more.

The problem for Kagawa is that eventually Van Persie will come back, at which point he needs to move back out wide. He can be a great player but he isn't good enough to justify dropping Rooney or Van Persie.

I think some people take Mad Winger's opinion as the consensus for people who praise Kagawa. It's really not far fetched to think that Kagawa behind Rooney can lead to a better team performance than Rooney behind RvP.

Having two such speedy wingers helped him as well though, lots of options going forward.

This is the best he's played since Norwich last season. He was thrilling in the first half. Second half was quiet but still good.

Not just Giggs, Kagawa could play his natural game because he had Giggs coming towards him from one direction, Rooney from the other and Nani roaming. This gave him the options to play the kind of cute round the corner or slip passes he likes to. If we can continue to play this way he'll start showing his true value.
