Yes he should. For all the blubbering about style and progress, we have scored 49 goals in 34 matches while conceding 41. That is absolutely shocking and border line pathetic.
They wouldn't have dared got Weghorst for Pep. The wouldn't need to get him. They would have found money hidden away somewhere to get him a striker. I blame the owners for him being here.Rubbish. You think Pep would be starting Weghorst?
Think those early minutes just highlighted the need for a clinical striker, but that will not solve everything for him if the others cannot get their shooting boots on as well. Otherwise we will just become Spurs relying on Harry Kane for everything. It would be absolutely insane to sack him after one season. We may have had some awful performances but overall there has been an improvement. We got no one in in January (on a permanent basis) so he needs at least two more windows to build his side and he must get full backing from the board for whoever he wants.
Besides, who would we replace him with? Harry Redknapp?
The one thing that does worry me is ETH trying to convince us of some performances: he actually said we played well in the first half at West Ham. We played well for 15 minutes... He needs to be far more ruthless - starting with making the brave move to play Butland from here on in

Realistically though, what do you expect him to say when he’s trying to motivate them? “Half of these players aren’t good enough and we'll probably bottle it”?Cheap talk about how we absolutely must be in the top 4 before Brighton and now West Ham. What’s the point when we are literally bottling it before our eyes? He needs to find solutions with what he’s got.
Liverpool are believing an licking their lips. Hope he keeps his gob shut this week and guides us to a win v Wolves - no excuses.
Think he has realised what a tough league this is. It isn't a league where you can put a second string out and still win against the lower sides. He has been desperate to get trophies back to United but we just haven't got the squad to compete at full ability for a season. He needs to prioritise next season. If god forbid we are in the EL, put squad players out, same with Carabao Cup. Still think we will get Top 4 as this week is first rest they have had for ages.It would be bitterly disappointing, but I'd still give him another season. I do think there's a good chance that what we're seeing is significantly affected by the amount of games we've played.
No excuses if he can't do it next season though.
Agreed - although Kane would be a nice start! There are times he has won Spurs games on his own: even his goal at Newcastle was him alone pretty much. I can't help wondering where we would be if we'd kept Cavani (and he's stayed happy)Think those early minutes just highlighted the need for a clinical striker, but that will not solve everything for him if the others cannot get their shooting boots on as well. Agree. What some are expecting him to say in public is completely unrealistic.Realistically though, what do you expect him to say when he’s trying to motivate them? “Half of these players aren’t good enough and we'll probably bottle it”?
Yeah I definitely think a happy fit Cavani would be more use than Weghorst. There again a fit Garnacho would have been as well. The ones worried about Antony, we needed him earlier in the season when Sancho was missing. It is Sancho I would be more worried about. His attitude is just all wrong for a United player.Agreed - although Kane would be a nice start! I actually think it’s less about bottling it or poor mentality and more about fatigue combined with the squad having shortcomings generally (e.g. no decent strikers) - fatigue due to lack of decent squad depth and so many games, a situation that we weren’t equipped to deal with yet. I said two months ago on the Top Four thread, when most people were saying that top four (in fact top three) was sewn up that we may struggle to get top four for this reason, you could see the fatigue and injuries building.Agree. What some are expecting him to say in public is completely unrealistic.
Agree. I had a right old rant yesterday, but once you sleep on things and rationalise what is happening you come to a more sensible opinion.I actually think it’s less about bottling it or poor mentality and more about fatigue combined with the squad having shortcomings generally (e.g. no decent strikers) - fatigue due to lack of decent squad depth and so many games, a situation that we weren’t equipped to deal with yet. He’s not proven anything yet. We had a ridiculously easy run to a league cup and he’s done nothing to improve the losers mentality that will define this bottling of top 4. We will be laughed at and rightly so.
I’m saying give him 3 seasons (including this) because why the f not? Style of play we were sold appears to be a myth and we are crawling towards the finish line. Candid interviews about how we must be in top 4 mean nothing when we are subsequently dished up the kind of crap we saw today. Thus far he’s the great pretender.
3 straight title contending teams with Tottenham Hotspur. Took Southampton to their highest ever PL finish in 1.5 seasons.Confused how he has done more in the pl ?
You’re making the sort of hysterical posts I’d expect a few minutes after the final whistleHow are you rattling off all these rage filled posts so long after the event?!

He's done more. No brainer.
The playing style needs to be a million times better by November latest.
He will obviously not be sacked but there are a couple of things the club or he should address immediately.
He should have almost no input into our transfers, or at least not have a decisive say. The fact that he managed Antony for a couple of years and sanctioned £80m deal shows his limited knowledge of the market. He did not have to look after transfer business at Ajax, it wasn't his role and it should not be here. We should have a proper scouting and recruitment system in place as soon as possible or otherwise we risk bloating the squad with players the next manager will have to get rid of.
We also need to prioritize competitions next year if our squad is still deemed not sufficient to allow for literally any rotation whatsoever. We can't be going all guns blazing in all competitions only to find ourselves out of breath in March. If we find ourselves playing our strongest team possible in early Europa League stages then the lesson has not been learned.
We also cannot start season on a similar foot to this year. Have to be prepared from game 1.
No, because they are wrong. Why because we have different opinion then you?

The issue at our club is we've allowed virtually all managers to have a crucial say in transfers. It is fine if you are 100% certain you have the right person at helm, which is almost never, however if things go awry and you are forced to part with your manager it creates a very undesirable situation where the next guy has to either work with players he doesn't want or you need to replace them immediately. Happened with van Gaal, happened with Mourinho, happened with Ole. Each of them left a bunch of players you would want to get rid of as soon as possible, and because they all added up over the years the job got even more difficult with time. At a serious club recruitment duties are at least shared between the manager and club management.I agree with you. He should absolutely not have full authority with transfers. Even with players staying(like De Gea).
If we somehow bottle top 4 though and new owners come in, I'm not sure Ten Hag will survive. A lot of goodwill evaporates if top 4 isn't secured.
Someone probably laughed.
ChristYes.
In fact, if Di Zerbi became obtainable then I would replace ETH regardless of league position.

Fine if you don't want to give them 17/18 as a title contending season but they definitely had at least 2 title contending teams. The Leicester season and the season immediately after when they finished 2nd.They only contended for the title once though. They were never in the title race after that.
And they lost out to Leicester.
I think such stuff matters when it comes to the recruitment, both for playing and non-playing staff. Not to mention another year without CL has also financial consequences. We can always throw more money to compensate for the diminishing prestige, sure, but last couple of years wouldn’t suggest high fee enormous wage transfers work that well for us.Being laughed at. Who cares?
Yeah the excuses seem to be ready and written for ETH.You can’t really expect goals after one transfer window and only 200m spent. This is a process that takes 3 years.

I really don’t want to sack him as I think he’s still top quality, but for me at this level you have to actually prove that. If we lose top four from the position we are in I don’t see how that shows he’s anywhere near good enough to win us the league. Failure from here is shocking and I’d lose a great deal of faith in his process if that happens.
