Should Wenger be sacked?

Should Arsenal sack Wenger

As I've said, managers can improve a player's mentality but if they don't have it, they don't have it. SAF couldn't manage to straighten out Ravel for eg, some could argue he couldn't get Nani to fulfill his potential, couldn't get Ando off the chips etc.

That may be an excuse if the manager hadn't signed every one of those players.

You've picked a few rare examples there for Fergie (and even with that, I disagree re Nani). With Arsenal it is the majority of the squad and has been for years.

I don't think it's coincidental that the majority of players have weak mentality at a club where the long-term manager is one of the most delusional excuse merchants in the league.

Agreement in place with Barcelona?

he'd never go there. AC Milan is really the best club for Wenger's personality for the next two years.

all wengers best work with players has come with players who were trained and schooled under different systems and wenger's system was just the final step on top of the training they already had. he would do well with young Italians with classic italian schooling but just needing a different view to include in their skill set

I don't get this, in what world if offered the Barcelona job and AC Milan job does he choose Milan? Not a chance, this is his last job he wants to go out winning something, if he can't win with Barcelona he may as well just retire now.

He's probably got 2 years in him, he's probably not thinking about bringing through young Italian youth at this stage.

You need to understand wenger's psychology. Not every manager is like Mourinho and Guardiola. Some managers have different metrics they judge themselves. Bielsa is another who is different from Wenger but similar in the sense that Bielsa has no desire to win any way other than his own way. Wenger is the same. Its like the Frank Sinatra song, they need to win "My Way".

Wenger has been offered both Real and PSG jobs and declined. The reason why is because Wenger cares more about his project, winning his way and proving his critics wrong than he cares about just winning for winning sake. Wenger wants complete freedom to do things and win his way.

I've been Arsenal fan before Wenger and I've followed Wenger for two decades now, listened to his interviews and speeches to the shareholders meetings for decades, read his biographies, etc. If there is one thing I learned about Wenger its that he is stubborn as all feck and doesn't care about winning other people's way. he only wants to do things his way, even if it means losing.

With Berlusconi as president? :lol::lol::lol:

Wenger will only go to a club that gives him complete power, what he has now at arsenal. That kind of club will not be a big club in europe

It will either be a mid/small club in a top european league, or a club in a non-top european league(rangers, maybe?). Or China

Just in the sense that Wenger would not have immediate pressure to win trophies, could spend two years working with youth

Really the only place for Wenger now realistically is a NT position. He wouldn't have to deal with transfer or day to day injury management

I get that and kind of agree, but milan's not that place

Yeah, that too, but i think he still wants the day to day work of club football.

Really, Rangers would be perfect for him at this point

Arsenal wont reach top 4, so he is gone either way. He will probably leave by himself instead of getting the sack

The thing with Wenger is, as I see it, that when he has a 'poor' season he wants to remedy it the next year (and thinks he can) so he can go out on a high, but when he has a 'good' season (winning the FA Cup along with top 4) he thinks he can build on it and go out on a bigger high. Everything in his own mind is set up for him to conclude that he needs another season.

He probably applies the same thinking to zipping up his coat. One day he'll get the absolutely perfect, can't possibly be bettered, zip-up on his coat and leave it alone, but until then...

Wenger signing a one year extension would be bizarre to say the least. Surely the board wouldn't want to put the long term future of the club at risk just so one guy can satisfy his own ego or even restore his self-confidence? It would essentially make him a lame duck right off the bat. The players already look like they no longer want to play for him so I don't see how one extra season would create the kind of inspiration needed to change any of that. Additionally it wouldn't make sense for him make any new signings either as thof thie transfer funds would have be reserved for whoever Wenger's replacement might be. What's more even if Arsene did bring in a couple of fresh faces, who's to say his successor would even want them?

None of this makes sense unless of course it's all part of yet another long term plan only this time on a year by year basis.

It's simply a way of quietening-down the (very public) fan discontent.

Well I suppose if nothing else it would help ease the uncertainty but you'd still have a ton of people pissed off at the actual decision.

He should have just sorted out his contract at the start of the season when there was no pressure coming from the fans. I'm not sure how he's going to find a good time to announce it
