Should Arsenal sack Wenger

This sounds like the first step towards him announcing the new contract. Confidence is back in the team and apparently they showed solid mentality beating Lincoln.

Couple more wins, then announce he is staying. Get in my son!

Even though I'm an outsider, I think it's essential that AFC fans protest. Why? because it's clear that the Arsenal board are very content to merely take the CL-qualification money season after season rather than aim to actually win things. In this context, the protest is not really about Wenger - it could be any manager in charge of Arsenal - it's about the bigger picture: a board not caring about fans' opinions or their aspirations for the club they support. Though Wenger is part of the problem, to some extent he's caught in the crossfire. The particular board need to be made to understand that supporters won't tolerate their mercenary attitude.

Because we have been here before.

I think Wenger knows that results haven't sufficiently been good enough so he is basically guilt tripping the Arsenal fans and preparing them for the inevitable contract renewal announcement.

Look at some of his comments in recent weeks: Arsenal didn't win the UCL before me, I built Arsenal , I have been loyal to this club for 20 years, I have been more pressure than even Enrique but I'm still here.

They are two important players in this whole thing. Wenger and the board. Only one is needed to end this relationship but neither wants to.

Wenger is stubborn as ever and has blamed everything from referees to unfair financial strengths of rivals as to why he had failed to win. He has come out recently saying he doesn't want to retire and will be managing next season, basically putting it up to the board to sack him.But this board is very content with what Wenger brings and doesn't want to rock the boat.

The fans can protest all they want, no one is listening. I remember protests last season too inside the stadium with hand held signs. That achieved nothing either.
 
He's even resorted to the 'be careful what you wish for' schtick.

Good post and I agree.

There are still many Arsenal fans happy with Wenger as manager. We even have a few of those fans here.

There isn't enough people in the stadium calling for Wenger's head. On top of that, the club has no ambition whatsoever so Wenger finishing 4th again this season and maybe an FA Cup and it's job done.

I also think he has signed a 2 year extension and the club are waiting for the right time to announce it.
 
Same old Arsenal mentality, always bottling it when it comes to the important defining moments.

Maybe it's me, but i honestly can't understand how an arsenal fan could have listened to that stuff and not show up to stadium with a wenger out banner. Just a complete lack of respect towards both the fans and the club itself
 
Anyone got a list of their fixtures so we can predict when the new contract will be announced after a good result :drool:

I agree.

People say that fans that protest are spoiled but Arsenal fans have been through enough in my opinion.

The excuses Wenger comes out with remind me of the things Moyes and Van Gaal used to come up with. Saving their own skin and trying to throw everyone else under the bus.

I have a great respect of what Wenger has achieved in English football but also cannot blindly ignore his failings in the last few years. It's time for him to leave.
 
He's now claiming that people are being ''brainwashed''. From John Cross's article in the Mirror.

He's coming across as bit of a selfish cnut and it is hard to feel sorry for him.

Which is fair enough tbh because I think we're getting a slightly distorted view of how Arsenal fans think imo. You'd think they were pretty much united in their desire for him to leave, which, in my own personal experience (and from what it looks like in the stadium) does not seem to be the case.

They're deluded over at Arse Mania. Some people have trouble letting go. The initial transition from Wenger to the new manager might be bumpy but long term it will benefit them hugely (unless they appoint Moyes).

Liverpool fans might recognise it as the famously-desperate 'Hodgson Defence' ("We might have lost at home to Athletico Fishcakes but I've 30-plus years of experience, so I know what I'm doing"). In fairness to Roy though, he's made more European finals than Wenger has.

How could you possibly even begin to know or claim this ? It's a complete guess based on hope and nothing else. They could quite easily make a poor appointment which sets them back years. It's not often teams get a new manager and are instantly boss, it often takes a few goes to find the right guy and get some kind of forward momentum and stability. Just look at Spurs, United, City etc.

I think most people would agree that with or without Wenger, they'll need to spend in the summer. They might need 4-5 players for their first 11. They've got an average midfield (when Ramsey is injured) they could improve on a left back, they would do well to sign a top class center back and they've been waiting for a top quality striker since van Persie left. If these players are all to be top end, this could be around 150m.

Can it be that the reaction from fans should be diverted more towards the owners? I for one find it embarrassing how many of them have turned on Wenger. Not seen anyone berating Wenger without thinking they are a bit daft (or a lot).

How can it get worse than now? Unless finishing 4th every season is an accomplishment for a club the size of Arsenal?

How can it get worse ? Quite easily. it's almost as if you think the pecking order of football will remain the same forever. The top 6 is very competitive now and Everton will be looking to join that party next season as well. Gone are the days of the "sky 4".

Prior to Wenger Arsenal weren't even the third biggest club in the country... this is football, things can and will change.

God only knows how Arsenal fans must feel because even as a United fan I'm angry with these comments.

I doubt Wenger has more money to spend and is choosing not to spend it. It's the way their owner operates - minimal investment in pursuit of mediocrity. As United fans we should be glad our American owners were the Glazers and not like Kroenke or Hicks/Gillett.
