Sir Ryan Giggs

Even though I rather Anderson had started, Giggs is still a boss. Still amazes me that he's producing these kind of performances at this age.

He's been great, he's playing Carrick's role (more attacking carrick role) very well.

How the hell does he still do it? Best player on the park tonight.

Ridiculous guy! 40 years old, playing in cm in the CL. Great performance from him tonight.

To be fair, age doesn't affect things like technique too much. Great performance although I would prefer we aren't relying on him at this stage.

He's been brilliant in the CL this season. Hats off to Giggsy, he's much improved at the moment. Great to see.

I kept hoping we'd take him off early to try and get him ready for Spurs.

Excellent from him, can't believe that he and Jones have probably given our two best cm displays of the season, today and against liverpool. I was surprisedhe played the whole 90, once we went 3 up, even when we looked comfortable at 2, I thought he'd be a cert to go off ahead of Spurs, certainly deserves to play. Really added to our game him linking up quickly with the likes of kagawa and being willing to go for ambitious passed. But that's our problem, we're stuck between the slow/simple/unambitious passing of clev/fellaini and the more forceful but potentially wasteful passing of giggs/ando with none of them having quite the right balance, though when giggs plays like this you think there's no reason he can't do a fewmore seasons without injury.

He just lost me by saying that Valencia has been on really good form this season.

Only kidding giggsy, love you and you were class!

He's just incredible.

I think somebody said it right in the match day thread. A creative midfielder who can tackle a bit can take this team to a whole new level.

It's not a surprise Giggsy looked good in the middle. He had a wonderful run playing in the middle partnering J O'Shea.

I...no, you know, I'm happy and drunk and the only post I'm gonna produce post-match tonight is this one: It's Giggsy. It's the legendary Ryan Giggs again. Nothing could be better.

He did play quite well but so did the entire side. I also didn't notice Bayer pressing United much. Early goals seemed to dictate the tempo and Bayer never settled in.

Thumbs up to Giggs and the starting XI.

Still amazes me how a 40 year old left winger can boss the midfield in the champions league, out shining German internationals like Bender.

Soon to have the all-time appearance record in Europe. All-time great.

I was saying earlier in the season that Giggs should never start in midfield
Though to be fair, I was also saying he should have started today, and he did :)
I think it's just Carrick and Giggs can't play together because neither are very mobile, but Jones next to Giggs or Carrick is a good partnership. Jones should probably be our first choice midfielder really, even in front Carrick, not because he's a better player because Carrick is our best midfielder, but Jones makes the best partnerships IMO.

To be fair, we looked so good because Leverkusen didn't bother to press us. When afforded space, the likes of Giggs and Kagawa can have all the time in the world to pick out their lovely passes. Giggs in CM against any team that press and there will probably be trouble.

I hope our other midfielders are inspired by that. If a 40 year old can play with such desire and be brave enough to influence a game, then they have no excuses. So much of his performance was about positivity and that's what decides matches.

Class tonight. He won't be able to do that in every game but tonight he was class. The ease of his cutting passes was ridiculous.

To be doing this at 40 years of age isn't normal.

As someone said, he's perfect in games when there's a little space to play. His big weakness (as with most of our CM) is when we are pressed.

Quite well, very good, amazing, out of this world... all adulation for a performance.

What else would you like to moan about today?

You could have just said he played well. The quite wasn't really necessary. I get the impression you'd have really rather just said he was adequate. Mustn't praise him when he's good, after all. Couldn't have anyone thinking we jumped the gun by writing him off.
