Yep, I would prefer Blind + 1 over Smalling-Bailly partnership, or if Smalling and Bailly start, then Blind should play instead of Shaw.

Why? Definitely not because he is a better defender than any of them, but because he is the only calming presence in our defense and even more importantly, the only one who can pass the ball well. The other players need someone like him there.
 
Some people here have been rightly called out. Making judgement calls even before the new manager settling in properly. You guys should just own up saying that it was a bad judgement on your part. A few of those clueless posters are still hankering about on this thread.

Smalling was fit since the start of the season. The first game he couldn't play due to suspension but he was on the bench in all of the other games. He started vs Watford because mourinho wanted to cope with ighalo and Deeney so it's not like blind was benched because he wasn't good enough but it was a tactical change. Blind has in fact started 7 games (6 at CB and we won 5 of those and lost to city alone). Smalling started 4 (we won 2 and lost 2). clearly mourinho rightly feels blind is a much superior player to Smalling.

I may be wrong but Smalling didn't have a pre season. Like you said was suspended and had that stupid surfing accident. So not match fit.

Actually I command him for doing that. People in here love sounding like expert and smartasses yet they're more often than not utterly clueless about football.

It's sometimes good to name and shame especially with the exceeding numbers of pretentious wanna be football analysts residing on the Caf.

Its not even about Hindsight. Its downright moronic to call people "utterly clueless about football" because they got a player wrong either by underrating or overrating him or by thinking that a new manager might sell them due to various reasons. That'd make everyone clueless, even someone like Sir Alex but we all know that's not the case and just a way of life so we come back to moronic.

Yes, he should start over Smalling, Blind isn't the best athlete, you could even say that he is a poor athlete but as a CB he has shown that he is smart and anticipate the game easily, he should be the starter next to Bailly.

As for Mata, it's simple. If you give him a role that suits his qualities, he will shine. Otherwise he will be an hindrance and should be sold, in terms of roles Mata isn't versatile.

Football fans in general are clueless when it comes to real stuffs related to football of highest level,they know feck all about it.

Hindsight is just an excuses to spare some of the utter moronic things written about those 2 players.

Hindsight in this case is understandable when we're talking about posters accepting Blind and Mata leaving while at least attempting a bit of fair and constructive criticisms. But what it won't excuses is posters posting nonsense such as the duo being completely useless and all other extreme opinions they could come up with.

People like that are deservedly being called out and that's how it should be with any irrational posters and opinions thrown out there.

Today worked well at the back with Blind left back. Wouldn't be against us keeping that for a while, although any pacemeisters out right could be a difficulty. But Blind is a smart player, and might even be better dealing with them out wide than through the middle.

I agree about the more extreme views on these players its uncalled for, they clearly are not useless. But to say they are not untouchable and were candidates to be sold in the summer is not extreme , that's what I'm arguing here.

Opinions are welcomed on football forum but more and more you can see football fans opinions are presented like they are basing it on some football knowledge or experience. Media because they are football fans too,making retarded remarks while asking managers during press conference like "X fans are one of most football knowledgeable fans in the country".i mean what a joke.

I swear that if Jose was to put Mata as centre-half - or even GK - and we lost the game, there would be people saying Mata isn't good enough.

You're arguing with someone who believes football fans are clueless about football and know feckall about it. Yet, he frequents a football forum to discuss football knowing fully well that not only is he clueless about the topic, the people he's discussing it with are the same. I'd say "Ok" and move on tbh if I were you.

If we did that we would name everyone. I do not believe there is one player, manager, assistant that hasn't been crucified by us all and not one caftard that hasn't been found out, even though it is just an opinion, and some people take to heart other peoples view.
