SL Benfica vs. Manchester United

No shit!

We play 2 strikers against Barca, but against Benfica we need 3 midfielders...

Football, bloody hell.

Getting very excited all the same!!!

Suprised Lindegaard plays. I would've preferred if Rooney was rested for Chelsea but he's in terrific form so hopefully he can score a few more goals. Fletcher & Valencia's returns are great to see and I hope Fabio impresses. Great bench.

UEFA Confirmed lineups. #MUFC are Lindegaard, Evra, Evans, Smallng, Fabio, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Valencia and Rooney

Good side. It's amazing that we can make 8 changes from the side that played against Bolton and still play such a strong team. Although no Berbatov and Owen once again.

Would have preferred Rooney rested for this. Rooney's been playing every 3 days so far with practically no time off, if you count England too.

Would have also preferred Macheda instead of Owen. Give the lad a chance.

But SAF knows best.

Is that our 2nd string or first team. Incredible how much depth we have at the moment.

How many times will commentators say de Gea is not playing because he's been 'tricky' so far and this is our hardest game in Champions League group stage?

Waiting for 'sell Giggs' comment.

No Ashley Young?

We got a win away to Valencia in the opener last season starting with Macheda alone up front and bringing Hernandez on late. I don't understand why Rooney is in as the game isn't of the utmost importance.

It's such a monumental change, they've got it on the SSN breaking news banner!

No need for Young on the bench as we're playing 3 wingers (Valencia, Park and Giggs) and Nani is on the bench. 3 strikers benched is a little excessive, mind.

De Gea dropped becuase hes shit, jesus I can't stand all this mocking at him.

Rooney is surely first to came off if we have a good result, Sean.

And he'll get a rest next Tuesday.

Incredible line up unreal. Anyway links to sop and probably the odd flash stream on my homepage.

would have better used for a defender, but we are short of numbers at the back. :(

No fecking way. Such shoddy journalism- the plan was to rest him against Bolton- he played so now he's getting the break today.

Agreed. I bet they barely mention Young, Hernandez, Rio, Nani, Jones & Ando not playing but De Gea's ommission will be discussed in depth. It's stupid how much they seem to have it in for the lad, give him a chance at least.

interesting line up. didnt really expect it. was looking forward to seeing berba in action tbh

So basically, the front six is our first choice from last season's run in? I'll take that. Strong, experienced side with a point to prove.

Of course it would have been nice to see 2 strikers, but honestly I thought we should have played 433 against Arsenal last season at the Emirates, so it's just nice to see SAF hasn't done away with it. It's been a while.
