So we have Bayern

. They are 9th, 12 point clear of relegation, 6 points behind 7th, so arguably still with a small chance to qualify for Europe. Wasn't really surprising that a hungover lackluster team with a makeshift defense will struggle in defense against Gung-Ho Hoffenheim.
Yeah definitely. I wouldn't take any of your league results post-champions serious.

Robben's been being a bit lippy.
Hopefully complacency is swelling through their camp at the moment.

Did Moyes say Valencia will be playing right back?
Where did you hear this?
"With Rafael, it's an injury and we need to check it out," revealed Moyes. "Valencia had a bit of tendinitis in his knee, which is why he wasn't involved. He was probably one I would have put to full-back if we had lost one, so we knew we'd be short if that was the case.

"The young boy Guillermo Varela might have got on the bench but he was injured as well so we had to juggle it around. We have injuries but we will probably know more about them tomorrow. I've just got to hope that Rafa's injury isn't too bad."

So thats possibly Valencia and Buttner as our fullbacks.

Robben and Ribery will have a fun day...

Doesn't really matter with their galore of midfielders

This will get ugly, hopefully ugly enough to see Moyes SACKED

Thanks for the caps, dunno If I would have understood you otherwise.

I'm surprised only 84% think we'll lose this... Quite an optimistic bunch we have on here
That just highlights the gap between the two sides IMO. That 84% of us thinking we'll lose at home in the champions league quarters seems a bit low.
Confidence in the team is at an all time low, and you have to question their motivation. They look scared and the terrible tactics used this season haven't been to our strengths.

You're welcome, it's my only hope for the remainder of this season.

Yeah, I'd also rather we get pumped and Moyes gets sacked than a good performance/win/trophy.

Glad we're on the same page, brother.

If you seriously think we have what it takes to beat Bayern after the performances Moyes has put it against anyone resembling a top team (City, Chelsea, Liverpool), I'd like whatever you're smoking.

I have previously said he deserves another season if he qualifies for the CL next season and I stand by that. I'd love to see us beat Bayern, but it's just not going to happen.

But he's over 30, so we won't have to worry about him.

He just turned 30. He has another 5 years in him. He has not been out because of an injury more than 2 weeks since he was 21 - actually some weeks ago it was the first time he ruptured a muscle and was out for two weeks.

Yeah, but apparently players suddenly turn sh*t when they become 30. See RVP.

It's a well known rule.

Only if they are from the Netherlands... Upps... Actually Robben is pretty healthy for a while now. He was injured over the winter break but that was from an incident with a goalkeeper... His last injury from his glass body was in 2012...

Buttner better be careful - else his holidays at home might not be so convenient anymore... (I remember the media bitchings in Germany when Kevin-Prince Boateng fouled Ballack out of the WC 2010 - even if afterwards a lot were glad he did...)

Anything more to add? haha. I think we should play a counterattacking game because Bayern are not coming here to sit back. They will have already studied the Liverpool and City games.

Those two teams came right at us from the jump and it paid dividends because we take aeons to get into a game. If we can avoid them scoring at OT we have a shot at scoring an away goal. 1-0 or even 0-0 would be a great result considering how shite we've become. We won't achieve this playing a two man midfield.

Last time Bayern failed to score away from home in a competitive match was almost 2 years ago at Dortmund in a league game I believe. I just can't see us keeping a clean sheet at OT against Bayern.

Our goals against record against any half decent side in the last few months: City 3, Chelsea 3, Liverpool 3, and Bayern are some way better than all of them.

They'd score 4.

I can't see us not conceding even if we played 9-0-1.

We're going to concede. We just have to play a system that gives us even half a fighting chance not to

Sorry, I didn't mean to disrespect your post. I was just amazed that you were talking seriously there.

Fair play to you for trying to stay positive and optimistic. I really applaude you for that.

However, in reality, Bayern has a great form away from home. We're literally terrible at home. We conceded goals in bunches against good sides. Everything points out to the fact that, sadly, we are going to concede goals against Bayern at Old Trafford.

I sure hope you're right though.

Wouldn't be a surprise. The teams you mentioned didn't even have to get into their top gear to score 3 against us.

I honestly cannot see any legal way we can beat this Bayern side, trying to give them food poisoning or kidnapping their team bus seems to best ideas so far.

Alternatively play Young and hope he pulls off one of his dives to get them down to 10 men, then we may keep the score down, they'd still win.

If any of the Bayern lot still hold a grudge for 1999, I can see them running up a tennis score.

My prediction is actually 2-0. In the champions league Pep doesn't seem to want to score many goals away from home, and he wouldn't want to risk needless injuries. If they scored 2 goals I think they'll take it a bit easy, and the game might finish 2-0. If you have watched their game against Arsenal, they were even somewhat satisfied with 1-0 even though Arsenal were playing with 10 men.

2-0 away from home, after all, is enough for them to progress. We're not going to beat them by 3 goals at Bayern.

I didn't take it as disrespect....I know you just laughed at the notion of us not conceding against them

Well, our best hope to keep the score down is for them to go easy on us, nough said. :(

Until the beginning of last season we had really problems away from home - not only in the Bundesliga but in the CL, too. In the second half of the 2011/12 season we really had problems to score away from home and that cost us the Bundesliga title. In the Bundesliga that stopped with the beginning of the last season - especially Müller is a lot better away than he is at home - but Ribery and Mandzukic are a big help for that, too. And in the CL we still had problems in the group stage in 2012/13. BATE where we scored only in the 90th minute, Lille we needed a penalty from Müller (it was the first penalty that went in after a couple of shooters missed in various situations) to win 0:1 and in Valencia it needed until minute 80+ and 10 men down till Müller scored and equalized. The ride through the group stage last season was not that easy...

But I guess that has a lot to do with self confidence, too. I remember that in 2011/12 when the ball did not go in until the second half the team got really nervous. The opponents goal was jinxed and somewhen somebody made a mistake so we conceded. The difference from Bayern 2011/12 to 2012/13 was especially the away form - at home was no problem.

First the team worked it out in the Bundesliga (where the unbeaten record now is 33 matches) - and then in the CL, too, where we now won the recent 7 away matches (Arsenal, Juventus, Barcelona, Manchester City, Pilsen, Moscow, Arsenal).

2012/13 was all about not doing the mistakes and failures of the prior year...

That's an insane record for someone playing at the highest level and internationally.

Lahm´s fitness is insane. Since he became a starter for bayern in 05/06 he missed about 6 weeks due to health issues and he started almost every single game for the club the national side. I dont know any top player with such a record.

Evra's stats would be worth checking.

Edit: Just checked. Evra played 359 games for us since 05/06 and Lahm played 386 for Bayern. Lahm had 13 more appearances in 05/06 (full season vs half season for Evra) and 15 more appearances so far this season which is almost exactly the difference between them.

true. I somehow thought that he had a long injury when he was still playing for Monaco, but thats not the case. Lahm played a lot more minutes for the national team, but else they have an equal record. I guess its no coincidence that both are fullbacks.

This is what its come down to under Moyes!
