Solskjær press conference vs Palace (A)

Love the atmosphere in the club right now. Full of positive energy and so much more enjoyable.

For those asking about Fred, I was eager to see him play when we first bought him. However, after the few games he played, I dread to see him in the team again. If OGS thinks McTominay and even Perreira should be playing instead of Fred for the Liverpool game, then I rather not see him start for the palace game.

For those saying Phelan is the one behind our defensive displays..
Can you imagine anyone who watched the last few years under Fergie giving Phelan any credit for our defensive shape? I love him and he's clearly got a lot about him as a coach, but if he was taking defensive sessions in training back in 2012-2013 it was just him running round with party poppers and a paper hat shouting "Attack! Attack! Attack!".

Great to see the full presser.
Regardless of how this season pans out Ole has got to get the job.
He's United through and through.
He's passionate about the club and has instilled that in the players.
Those who haven't come through the academy and didn't know the history of the club will know about it now and what is expected of them.
Interesting to note what he said about what players get up to when they are not playing and how important it is to concentrate on your football and what is expected of you on and off the pitch.
I'm sure if anyone doesn't get this ( and Ole is manager next season ) they'll be out and we'll have a team of United players who understand what it means to wear the shirt.
I seriously don't think I could love the guy anymore and that's from a guy who almost shed a tear at his testimonial match.

He’s a very intelligent man, isn’t he? He also knows exactly what he wants for the club and from our players.

He’s closer to a consistent starting 11 in two months than three previous managers have been in 6 years.

I loved the comments about the higher intensity and why he wants to do it now instead of the summer because essentially, what’s the point in waiting?

He speaks brilliantly and is clearly a very bright guy but I wish he was less open with the media. There's no need to discuss his plans for certain players and his tactical ideas (even at a very basic level). Sorry if that offends the cult but he seems to be trying to help the media at the moment and they don't deserve it.

I suspect that it is a conscious strategy and that Ole himself wants to influence what the media writes about him and the team.

They have to get something interesting to write about, otherwise they put all the effort into sniffing out "sensational" tasks and then he cannot at all influence what headlines are created. In the worst case, the club's employees and their own fans also get an incorrect picture.

It's incredibly difficult to keep something secret in a large organization, someone always talks too much or with the wrong people about their job. Then it can be smart that Ole himself tells as much as he can and in this way also controls what the competitors find out of that way.

Noticed this too, and it coincides with the media etc talking a lot less about our players' social media accounts, haircuts and other such activities.

It seems he has stamped his authority without using the dictatorship approach of previous managers. And the players are responding.

What's the point in the embargoed part of the conference? Is it for journo exclusives?

The focus on the football comment echoes what Cantona said in one of his recently posted interviews. It’s such a refreshing approach!

Our injury list has to be some kind of Premier League record for injured first team players , or getting very close to becoming one.

Newspaper headlines and comments on the morning of the match. At least that's what it was meant for. These days the comments spread faster than teenage girl rumors when the embargo is lifted the evening before the match.

Also works for the likes of SSN. Yesterday they were running with comments from the regular presser, today their buildup has been regarding comments from the embargoed bit (Fred update, fitness issues).

I think this guy actually IS a special one(God forbid, he must never ever be called that though. The combination of the words makes me cringe).
He's a proper antidote to all the toxicity we've been served over the last years.

Ain't that the truth..

Love Phelan but no need to bestow imaginary accolades on him to downplay OGS especially as he's the best assistant any united fan would want.

Ole is doing such a great job.

I love that he's openly admitted that the extra running / changing style is probably the reason for more injuries, rather than just brushing over it and saying "oh it's just the players or the grass isn't watered"

He quite clearly see's the weakness and where things need to be improved. That shows me were making progress and I have full faith he will get it right.

He's also very clever in making friends with the press. Right now they all love him, and keeping them on side is very important. I knew Jose's days were numbered once he started going at them.

Couldn't have phrased it better, well said.

He's learnt from the best, Fergie was a master at manipulating the press.

I doubt it, there have been some horrendous injury crises at less high-profile teams over the years. But we must be pretty high up in terms of the number of injuries suffered in such a short space of time. One minute we basically had our entire first choice eleven available, and two games later our attack and midfield have both been decimated.

Oh, Ole. Please continue to deliver. A great start, and now you just need to keep it going. I want you to be our manager.

He's learnt from the best, Fergie was a master at manipulating the press.
Exactly. Biggest difference between Mourinho and Ferguson for me is little to do with style, but Ferguon was a master at making sure the fans heard the messages they wanted to hear, even if on the field our defence was more effective than our offence at times, or we were playing in quite a reactive manner.

Heh, I'll have to disagree with Ole on that. He's built like a linebacker. Too heavy for a receiver, too tall for a running back, too small for a lineman... Actually, he's almost identical in height and weight to the Tampa Bay Bucs' punter, Bryan Anger.

But he's right, that muscle can come right off in an offseason of appropriate training, and with that will come speed.
Will it bring "first touch" as well?

Love him but I pray he doesn't get too friendly with the press. They will eat him up after a few bad games. You can't trust a journalist.

Will it bring "first touch" as well?
Yes. If you're blowing out your ass and can hardly think straight, your touch will go to shit. Anybody that's played 6 aside for the first time in ages can testify to that.

It's clear that Lukaku is struggling with the extra weight and isn't as fit as he should/could be. I'm sure they will address that as he knows it himself.

Norwegian national booking is suggesting a Loss bet on Man United vs Crystal Palace, citing injuries and Crystal Palace being "due".

I don't think they saw what our reserve squad did against Liverpool.

We have not lost against Crystal Palace in 19 showings in the league. Apparently that is the current Premier League record

Another really good and insightful presser.
I particularly liked how he danced around the muscle injury questions, because it shows that although he's happy to share some aspects he also wants to keep some tactical tweaking etc under wraps.
I do agree with him though in the sense that the intensity we've played with isn't unsustainable at all.
It will be interesting to see who actually gets a chance tonight regarding the kids, it's such a shame Greenwood got that injury.

Norsk Tipping suck.

Regarding preparation and standards when playing for United.

"I'm pleased with the way MY lads have responded in that way"

Yes, Ole they are your minions in red, keep up the great work lad.

How can you not love him

I have to say I've been entirely won over from a very cautious 'let's see' position when he was announced. I can fully see why Liverpool fans got so excited when Dalgleish took them back from Roy. Fair enough we took the piss over the pretty poor results and the t-shirt fiasco but it's just so good to have a manager in who knows the club, trying to play your football and speaking your language after a shitshow of a tenure.

I'd have Ole as permanent boss without a doubt, and I wouldn't have said that until very recently.

So Ole knew that the tactics and extra running would lead to injuries, and did it anyway?

And apparently, OUR injuries cost Liverpool their precious rhythm, which was why they did not play well, according to Klopp.

How we underestimate Ole's tactical depth!

They don't seem to eat up Klopp and he's quite friendly with them. Some journalists are admittedly crap but most of them are just doing their jobs. Ole being friendly with them will only help him if the going gets tough. They will be willing to cut him some slack, more than they would for someone grumpy all the time like Jose. They'll know that they can go into their job every week and not be constantly targeted by the manager.

Besides Ole is just being himself and he's a charismatic person in general. Everything he does and says has a positive feel to it. The vibe around the club currently is completely down to him being himself.

I don't think the press for football really eats up anybody to be honest. Mourinho just behaved like a delusional dictator, when things weren't going his way. Mourinho for all his supposed charisma really just quite narscistic twat.

He is so impressive in front of the cameras. Who did he give the sunglasses to? Jamie ???

From what I read he was born in Willemstad, Cuaçao to mixed Dutch (father, although could be originally of Chinese descent) and Curaçaoan (mother) parents. At the age of 10 his family moved to Rotterdam. None of the above regarding parental roots is "officially" endorsed anywhere, therefore Wiki doesn't list it yet and it is probably best to take it with a pinch of salt. The father's nationality is the most fuzzy of the two.

Whether any of the above is true or not he seems like a guy who wants to retain some privacy so he's being well advised.

There are a fair few Chinese people scattered throughout the Caribbean so it's not so far fetched. Seeing a Chinese person speaking with a Jamaican accent will blow your mind.

Or a welsh one. My old uni housemate used to chat away in cantonese with a strong welsh accent. Weird.
