Hard to say how far he will go, but Solkjaer has this humility about him that makes me think he is going to make sure he learns the basics at every level first, before taking the next leap. I think his progress will be methodical, and there's no way he'll be anywhere in the running for the United job within 3 years.

He'll probably want to educate himself in managing a lower division club in England, and probably a stronger club in Europe to get Champion's League experience, before even thinking about United.

nice post, I remember Kean's debut role. Taking Sunderland from relegation zone to Premiership was a great achievement. Shame that his managerial carer has gone to shitter once he left The Black Cats.
 
When we were dominating possession against Chelsea in the first half today and doing nothing with the ball in the final third except dilly dallying Ole's words of wisdom were very much required...

Yes, that would probably be a far greater achievement than Porto winning the whole shebang. Even Rosenborg couldn't get close to the QF.

Rosenborg lost 3-1 on aggregate to Juventus in the QFs in 96/97 after finishing 2nd in their group, ahead of AC Milan. But at that time the QF was the first knock out round after the group stages.

The Molde boss' former strike partner of Manchester United believe the possibilities are endless if Solskjaer continues to deliver results in Norway.

- He can become a coach in England, the Netherlands or anywhere. Why not? Ole Gunnar has experience in the football world. As a player at Manchester United and the national team, he experienced the sport everywhere. Therefore, he has what it takes to become a coach in another league, says van Nistelrooy to Romsdals Budstikke.

Happy for Molde's gold
The Dutchman plays for Malaga, which is currently sixth in the Primera Division.

Yesterday he ate lunch with Molde's staff at the Hotel Guadalmina, before he and Ole Gunnar continued the football chat over a coffee at the restaurant's terrace.

For an hour and a half they talked about the old days and new challenges.

- We have not been in touch lately, but of course I have paid attention to what he has done in Molde. I know that Ole won the league in the first attempt, and that it was historic for the club. I was very happy to hear and read about this. It was everywhere in the news, also in Spain, said van Nistelrooy.

Belief in Solskjaer
He believes Solskjaer has the right qualities to become a major international manager.

- As a player he was always good at observing. He always worked hard to learn new things. Ole was independent and made his own plans for his own development. And he was very critical of himself. I am sure that he has the same overview as a manager.

- I know he has the qualities needed to teach others to become great players, says the 35-year-old who played four seasons at Real Madrid after he left United.

Set scoring record
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not spoken to Nistelrooy in two years. This week he got Flaco (former Molde player, now living in Spain) to acquire the Dutchman's mobile number through contacts in the club management at Malaga.

- It was nice that he took the trip to see us. Ruud was a fantastic finisher, and a player I practised a lot with on my own. I remember the first game we played together, it was the end of 2001 in Ruuds first season for United. I think we won 5-0 against Derby, and he scored one and I scored two goals.

- Yes, I remember that goal. A return that came out, answers van Nistelrooy.

- In our best season we set some kind of record. I think we scored 63 goals between us, said Solskjaer.

Close friends
He and Van Nistelrooy were often together in their spare time in England. Their families also acquired close ties.

- I "hung" out a great deal with the Dutchmen at United, both Jordi Cruyff, Jaap Stam and Edwin van der Sar. We became good mates on and off the pitch in Manchester. Noah used to train with a team on a pitch that was one minute away from the house of the Nistelrooy family.

- We always paid them a visit after, and Silje was friends with Ruud's wife. So this was nice, said Solskjaer.

Hope he continues his good job in management, you never know... could just be in line as fergies succsessor ;)
 
I love Ole, probably my third favourite United player.

After having Arsene manage Arsenal, the only manager that could follow for the Gunners would be Gunnar.

It would be good practice for taking over United.

Don't do that to me. The US spell check drives me mad. Some words I write the UK way, some the US way. I'm a product of American internet and cartoons and UK grammar in school upbringing.
 
He's not the only reason I started following United, but he's the main reason I got so involved with United as early as I did. I was only a kid when he joined the club, but he was already one of my football idols since he was playing for my favourite (and local) club, Molde, and I had seen him play many times from the stands since my dad took me to my first match when I was 6 years old. I remember his last game for Molde very well, I was there with a big poster I had written myself, that said something like "goodbye and good luck, Ole!" When he joined United, I was already following the club, but him joining made my relation to United closer. One of my first memories of United, is that I was collecting pictures and articles about Ole and Cantona's strike partnership for my football scrapbook. Since then, my crush on United (and Ole) has grown bigger every day.
 
Took me a while to understand that Norwegian media's fawning over Ole didn't surpass the adoration at United... Every time I come across United fans Ole's involvement means my being Norwegian will be received favourably :)

One of many reasons that I love him.

Yeah, that would be interesting, because they have a lot of money available for transfers. Even though he's got quite a good transfer budget at Molde (Norwegian standard), it's still very small compared to European level, so he's mostly signing young, cheap players which he can shape himself, and established experienced players on a free/fairly cheap.
 
Does anyone remember when we signed him, Johnsen, Cruyff, Poborsky and Van der Gouw?

To think I was creaming myself over Jordi and Pob.

Did a super job in midfield when called upon too. Real shame injuries hampered what could've been a great career.
