Surely this lot wont beat us. Ruud really has to start finding the net.

It is an away game so i would be very happy to see us win 1-0 (Ruud).

the best players have to play, very offensive line-up. probably with 3 strikers, rooney, smith and ruud. we have to find our best form again

We dont have to rest players for european games and the league is pretty much out of our reach now.. hope all our best players are all focus now and prepare well physically and mentally for the game. I cant possibly imagine we dont win this one!

What a fantastic central midfield you have there

1 Striker,
1 featherweight and injured crap Brazilian
and 1 invisible man impersinator

Southampton will be quaking in their boots when they see that line up.

No Bellion thanks...

There's a chance that Southampton might rest a few playerss since their league survical is far more important to them, but that shouldn't mean that we act in kind, we need a boost after the last two games.

I'd like to play Smith but i thinkRuud and Rooney nned to build up some kind of relationship if they're going to be our frontline pairing. Mind you if we get to half time and Ruud still doesn't look like he's at the races, i'd consider possibly making a change early in the second half, either Giggs or Smith.

Nick,

correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Fergie played Ruud in like 4 games now :smirk:

And to think the muppets that was looking forward to Ruud return are now jumping on his backs.

Try a suprise new formation: 4-1 to United (Scholes, Ruud, Rooney, Smith-Brown/Howard own goal)

i think we would start with this
i doubt keane will start after playing 90 minutes against palace and milan

Scholes has been poor recently,,,actually since his miss agianst Milan (1st leg),,,was average against Portsmouth,,,could not find a way through Palace defence,,,& he was clueless at Milan.
I suggest giving him a rest 15 days or so, to recharge.

it's the FA cup quarter final, should send all our big guns out...
i'll go with this... but i'll push Crissy and Fortune a bit forward

 like we care!!!

but hey, we do... it's better than the Carling Plastic Cup and probably the only trophy in our cabinet this season. The players know it and should not let the manager down this time.

I hope Bellion will get a game, he looked very good yesterday in the reserve win over Blackburn. Considering he was having a good game and was subed in the middle of the second half, he might just have a chance.

Giggs to miss Cup trip

Ryan Giggs is out of United's FA Cup quarter-final tie at Southampton following an elbow to the nose in Tuesday's Champions League defeat to AC Milan.

Giggs is unavailable for the trip to St. Mary's, but United's No.2 Carlos Queiroz warned Harry Redknapp's side that United will only come back stronger from the midweek European exit at the Giuseppe Meazza.

"Ryan Giggs is obviously out of our plans," confirmed Queiroz at the pre-match press conference. "The team will be similar to the one we picked in Milan."

Although Sir Alex Ferguson indicated Chelsea's progress in the Champions League could prove to be distracting to their Premiership campaign, the FA Cup now represents United's one realistic chance of securing some silverware this season.

Queiroz admits the midweek defeat to Milan was hard to take for everyone connected to Old Trafford, but says the players are determined to give the fans something to celebrate come the end of the season.

"We're sad we have frustrated the dreams of our fans and our own expectations," he added. "But we're very strong in our mind that we must give our best in the coming games.

"Our desire to win the FA Cup is no stronger than it was at the start of the season. Realistically, it becomes an important trophy for us."
Carlos Queiroz

"Our desire to win the FA Cup is no stronger than it was at the start of the season. Realistically, it becomes an important trophy for us.

"But the most important competition now is the competition of playing against ourselves."

The danger on Saturday is that the disappointment from Tuesday's trip to Milan is still lingering among the players. The task is made more difficult by Southampton's solidarity on home turf. They have lost just twice at home this season, against Bolton in August and Newcastle in September.

"Southampton are a very solid team and their progression has been steady over the last few weeks, we know that through our reports and our own observations.

"They’ve only lost twice at home this season which shows how difficult our game will be. It is a fantastic home record.

"The game will be special because it is surrounded by the cup spirit. It is not easy to go to Southampton, or to any other club in this competition.

"But Southampton know Manchester United are on the rebound and will come back even stronger. The desire we will show to win this game, I am sure, will be fantastic."

Report by Ben Hibbs at Carrington and Gemma Thompson.

Preview: Southampton v Manchester United

SIR Alex Ferguson has promised that United will bounce straight back from their European agony with FA Cup success at Southampton.

The upbeat Reds boss is adamant his men won't wallow in the disappointment of this week's Champions League exit at the hands of AC Milan.

"The players are over it because they are professional and they understand they have to move on," Fergie said ahead of the teatime quarter-final clash at St Mary's.

"We don't like it but it is part of the game and you have to realise that and go on to the next challenge.

"You look for the next challenge and that is now getting through to the semi-final of the FA Cup - and the players will respond to that.

"They know they played in two marvellous games of football where the technical football from both teams was terrific.

"The two games with Milan were played with great intensity and there was a high skill level. The players know they were not far off and that helps with their recovery.

"I thought the players handled it all with great dignity at the end of the match.

"Of course, they were disappointed but they realised they weren't turned over and they know what they have to do next time."

For the second successive year, the FA Cup has again become United's consolation prize.

Last Saturday's stalemate at Crystal Palace all but ended the Reds' slim hopes of catching Chelsea in the race for the Premiership.

Following their European exit, the Cup has moved from third to top spot on the Old Trafford list of targets.

For Southampton the match will come as a relief from the pressures of scrapping for their Premiership survival.

"We've always wanted to progress because getting into an FA Cup semi-final situation is very exciting," Fergie said. "We have always felt good about the FA Cup and have always wanted to win it."

Ryan Giggs has been ruled out of the clash after his nose injury against AC Milan on Tuesday. Quinton Fortune or Alan Smith could be drafted in to replace him, with Ferguson set to field a similar team to that which exited Europe in midweek.

Saints will have Anti Niemi back in goal.
