fecking dreading what's next to come from what's so far been a shitty start to the season

By and large think the team picks itself barring two positions wide left and in the centre of midfield as you can argue that Carrick and Nani should come in for Ando and Young. However, I think both Ando and Young have done enough to start. Neither did all that much wrong today and until they put in bad performances I don't think its fair to drop them. Nobody should be guaranteed a spot and as long as the team that started today keeps delivering everyone in it, except in defence which is makeshift, should continue getting games.

Evans is back for this one I hope. I like to see us try 4-3-1-2. Risky, but better try it now then later.

DDG; Rafael Vidic Evans Evra ; Cleverley Carrick Anderson ; Kagawa; Van Persie Hernandez

Benching Valencia is mad I know. But we can try going forward through the middle for a change.

Rio and Jones might be back too. They are back in training.
Rio might start if he is fit enough as he had the preseason and Evans has been out for a very long time.

With the injury, picking the striker would be an easier call.. What about the midfield?
Carrick, Clev, Anderson, Scholes and Kagawa.. All fit and fresh. and then we have Giggs.

Good luck Fergie

Think this should be the team; give Nani another chance. Young again wasn't good enough for me today and Anderson should maybe be brought on in the second half as a pair of fresh legs if necessary. Don't fancy picking a bench as we start to get players back, it must be said.

That team looks excellent. Would be great to have either Evans or Rio back, push Carrick into midfield and play Kagawa behind RVP

This would be my line-up also, with a bench of:

Bench: Lindegaard, Jones/Rio (hopefully), Scholes, Anderson, Young, Giggs, Chicharito

Hopefully Berba will have moved on to a good team by then as there's no room left :(

What about Welbeck? I reckon he would have to be on the bench aswel someone like giggs may be dropped.

Did SAF say anything about Rooney's injury or why has Nani not been included today?

According to Fergie Rooney is out for up to a month.

Yeah, I considered editing when I realised, but whether it's Giggs or Chicharito dropped I expect Welbeck will be included.

Should have a proper defence for this - thank feck.

Biggest question for me is what 2 are played in center midfield? Scholes didn't get any minutes today, Anderson and cleverley were both pretty good together and neither deserve to be dropped, but carrick can finally come into midfield.
De gea
Rafael Evans vidic evra
Cleverley Anderson
Valencia kagawa nani
RVP

Is what I'd like to see, but I expect carrick to come in for one of the two and young to start over nani.

Team almost picks itself with Evans most likely back and Rooney out:

de Gea
Rafael Vidic Evans Evra
Carrick Scholes
Valencia Kagawa Nani
van Persie
--
Lindegaard; Búttner; Anderson, Cleverley, Giggs; Welbeck, Hernández

Evans should come in unless there's a further set-back.
Carrick can go straight back into midfield rather than have a rest.
Scholes can probably come back in over Cleverley (he'll go on international duty I bet), but Cleverley starting will be tits as well.
Young didn't do enough for me to start again, so I'd give Nani another start. Young will probably make the bench though -- I'm just not sure who over.

Anderson to get on as a sub over Carrick, I'd fancy Hernandez to be given a run out too. Probably Welbeck as well.

My fear is that we'll see:

de Gea
Rafael Vidic Evans Evra
Carrick Scholes
Valencia Kagawa Welbeck
van Persie

Which makes no sense to me when we have all of our wingers fit and Kagawa is on the pitch...

Hopefully Evans is fit so this will be the team, although I wouldn't be surprised if Welbeck or Young started on the left.

This is a really good team that could match anyone.

That's if Rio is back of course, if not bang in Evans and we are laughing all the way to a three niller unless of course Southampthon are still game raising cnuts of the highest order much like West Ham.

With Valencia that little bit sharper and Kagawa and RVP looking good together we should ripping this lot a brand new arsehole. Throw a hopefully in form Nani into the mix and this could get filthy.

With Carrick back in the middle we should see a change in how we have been dealing with strong able bodied players in the centre plus I don't think The Saints have a player that can offer them such a tactic.

Obviously as soon as a CB is fit, Carrick won't play CB.
So someone's got to take the fall (Carrick/Cleverley/Anderson).

I think Carrick is one of the first names on the team-sheet.

It's imperative that we get our defensive issues sorted; by firstly playing Vidic alongside a proper CB, and secondly by giving him the defensive cover he needs until he's back to full-form. Because we'll need him in Europe.
Cleverley/Anderson aren't the greatest at defensive duties, esp. Cleverley.

Anderson was bringing the ball out and beating his man a couple of times which was great to see. Aside from a few Stoke-esque clearances, Cleverley was good too, but Carrick's head and shoulders above them for what we need atm imo. Carrick and another CM (Ando/Tom/Paul), + 2 wingers plus Kagawa is a great midfield to have. Kagawa should help out a bit more too. Most teams are lining up with a 4231; it's good that we have one as well now; we can match the 2.5 midfielders that the opposition puts out (The CAM in that formation only counts as half a midfielder, really).

Considering the break after this game SAF might really play anyone, it's going to be very hard to guess the team. He might very well rotate half the team, as Southampton should be one of the easier games this season, though it is an away game.

Evans should start, but I can also see Scholes, Welbeck, Chicharito, Nani and/or Buettner starting. Or we could keep the same team with Evans for Carrick, which would be just fine with me.
