Sporting Lisbon vs. Manchester United - Wednesday 19 September 2007 (19:45 BST)

Giggs partnering Rooney upfront

Is Fergie retarded? fecking hell. People always come out with all this 'don't you reckon he knows the players more than you?' kinda stuff, but if only we can see Giggs has been playing poorly upfront, then Fergie is going senile. Rooney starts, despite being injured for weeks. Saha's reward for his goalscoring return is a bench spot  Tevez' outstanding display at the weekend sees him on the bench  What the feck does Giggs have to do to be on the bench then?

Unless the players are injured, i'm extremely disappointed in Fergie. Hope we pull off a result anyway of course, but i don't feel we've been given the best chance of doing so by the gaffer. I reckon Fergie just likes to throw suprises into his line-up's for the sake of it now.

Anyway, perhaps i'm just reacting as a reflex and will calm down in a minute.

Calm down mate.

We will probably scrape through in the end.Rooney starting is fantastic news but with Giggs is worrying.

The surprise for me is that Nani starts instead of Tevez. I thought Rooney and Tevez would start up top with Giggs on the left.

I can't understand how Giggs gets into the team upfront ahead of Saha and Tevez. Maybe they are both starting against Chelsea.

Maybe it will be a 4-3-3, with Nani and Ronaldo pushed right up...Giggs has played well in Europe in the hole before, and is experienced. We also dont know how fit Saha and Tevez are, maybe theyve picked up slight knocks...
If we hit them on the counter with Rooney, Nani and Ronaldo, we are capable of banging in a few.

I do expect Tevez and Saha to start upfront against Chelsea. I think the side picked for today again errs on the side of caution.

For some bizarre reason we could be facing Scunthorpe United in Europe away and still be cautious. Its just how Fergie always operates.

That being said, we have some fantastic people on the bench, a marked improvement from previous seasons.

I'm keen to see as to how good Sporting play; rarely watch them, if ever.

Thats the best bench I've seen it a while but why didn't he start either Saha or Tevez WITH Ronney?

What I can't understand is people getting annoyed about the line-up before the game. If Giggs scores a hat-trick tonight you'll be singing his praises. Why not leave the whining until after the game (at which point hopefully the whining won't be needed).

That's a Caf tradition.

Giggs will probably play in the middle with Scholes and Carrick.

Still doesn't make much sense dropping Tevez and putting Rooney in mind. Although maybe it does, since Tevez also played in that friendly last week

Has Giggs ever scored a hat-trick in his career?

'kinell, thats a 4-6-0 lineup.

so we are playing away in Europe with a formation that resembles a 4-5-1... well feck me. I have a little feeling that this may not be the best 90 mins we play.

I'm happy if we don't repeat our performance against Benfica away tonight...

I'm not going to be negative. It's a line up which should win us the match, yes I would have started Tevez and Saha, but hey, who am I to question SAF.

Lets not lose perspective here; i'm not expecting a fantastic performance. We all know that, we just rarely ever play well away in Europe even against the "lesser" European teams.

Three points and no injuries will do us fine.

It's like this, I think.

Yeah that's what I would have thought.

I find you funny
scholes is never a dirty player who should be getting reds
he sent keane off for nowt as well

How can you argue with Scholes' second yellow card, it was a reckless tackle that stopped their promising attack.
