Stoke City Vs. Manchester United, Premier League, 24/9/2011

What are you on about? We didn't kick a single long, high ball towards the box. Kept playing football right until the end.

Okok, I might have stretched it as I was pretty annoyed but I just think that we didn't play it from the back as we're used to do. There were a bunch of high ball coming out from our box towards the middle. Stoke win so many second balls when the ball is in the air. At the end we then kept kicking long balls which isn't the way to go when you have the likes of Nani and Giggs. I didn't like the performance all that much but considering everything getting 1 point at Stoke isn't terrible.

Upfront we were non existent.

Thought the midfield played quite well?

I thought Fletcher and Nani were superb. Young had a quiet game and Anderson was ok. Neither Berbatov or Owen seemed to get involved in the game much and I thought Welbeck did better than in the short 20 minutes he had.

A draw against Stoke away isn't a bad result. The Britannia Stadium has become something of a fortress for them. Referee has had an absolute nightmare though. Should have had a penalty in the first two minutes for that tackle from behind on Hernandez.

Crouch is a horrible player too, so dirty in the air. I thought we signed Phil Jones to be a centreback, not a pogo stick.

That's not to say we were without fault though, far from it. The defence and midfield were fine, doing their jobs well, and De Gea was actually MOTM in my eyes. Up front though, we were awful. Berbatov went back to his "I'm too lazy for this" attitude, and Owen was slow, both physically and mentally. Welbeck, when he came on, didn't look ready for it, and I wonder if his hamstring is still bothering him.

I'll get slated for this, but I think we should have had Diouf on the bench instead of Macheda or Welbeck. Strong athletic player, and I honestly think that was the sort of game that suited him.

I thought Diouf would have made a big difference too.

its hard not to whine when stoke are allowed to get away with violent foul to our players......and the ref robbed of us at least 2-3 penalty shouts......
I'm whinging too -- here and at home! :D

Difficult not to, as you said. :) It's more a whinge at the mean unfairness of the world rather than the Stokies. Players & support did their best, no problem with that. The officials, though...

Should have had a penalty but overall not a bad point as Stoke made it very difficult. Hope Hernandez injury is not too bad.

So what was worse - the ref performance or our own performance?

I don't think our performance was by any means that awful. Stoke restricted us and played very well.

We should have had at least one penalty (more so the Chicharito one in the first half, which seen him have to be subbed). Also how many throw-ins should we have had, but were given to them? They have a certain way they play, and all power to them but I just felt the ref gave us no protection at all. We should have had a few freekicks but they were dismissed.

Not sure about the penalty claim were Owen was flagged offside, it could have been given I suppose but the Chicharito one was 100% for me.

Anyway, not too angry. We were never going to keep winning every single game. We've had a tough opening 6 matches, and to take 16 points from 18 points is brilliant. Norwich at home next in the league, Rooney back. Bring it on.

not again

whenever i miss the game we drop points. in the past 4 years this was the 16th game i missed and we dropped points in 14 of those games.
