Stoke City vs. Manchester United

gazza neville

he is going to be great .. as usual
stop hating

We going to play like them as well then?

Are you a complete mongoloid? Just imagine(with our shaky defence also in mind) Rafael and Evra getting the ball put over their head all afternoon, just imagine weakling player's like Park and Obertan getting barged off the ball all afternoon, meaning we'd probably be put under more pressure due to the ball not sticking up top, and I'll tell you now, Hernandez is going to have a tough time imposing himself on this game, he'd have not started if we'd had more striking options right now.

 O'Shea hasn't even kicked a ball yet and were already slating him.

Come On United !!! We need to show we can put on a performance without that overpaid scouse twat.

Ah yes, possibly. I doubt it but I would quite like it. My money's on a 433 myself, O'Shea anchoring and Hernandez as a wide forward.

I can't see Fergie playing JOS over Carrick as the anchor. Carrick's vastly superior to JOS in every single respect in that position. It was different against Everton because both Carrick and Anderson were injured.

we're playing stoke ffs

im sure we'd see barcelona drop iniesta, messi, xavi, dani alves to cope with stokes physical presence

I know I'm in a minority but I thought they were both dire in mid-week. Anderson at least ran around a bit but neither of them could pass the ball to save their lives.

Well O'Shea's not exactly going to be a massive improvement in that factor.

However he'll sit and protect our defense and he was very good at Goodison so I'm happy with him playing.

Neville on the right is scary though.

Neville's only previous appearance was against Everton this season. He was positioned poorly for their first goal (did well to recover and get a challenge on Arteta but then switched off for the follow up) and their 2 goals in stoppage time came from left wing crosses :nervous:

Stoke: Sorensen, Huth, Shawcross, Faye, Collins, Pennant, Wilson, Delap, Etherington, Walters, Jones.

Subs: Begovic, Higginbotham, Whelan, Gudjohnsen, Pugh, Sanli, Wilkinson.

Obertan is not that weak, from what I've seen lately. If your theory was right I can't see why Neville is chosen ahead of O'Shea at the RB. Neville is not exactly a strong, tall defender, is he?

If things dont go well today we'll end up praying for him to return soon (and in form)

I can also imagine our side taking control of the ball, creating chances and keeping Stoke pinned in thier own half

I feel positive, I expect a convincing performance and win
That's what some said before our European game that what Rooney did would have a galvanizing effect on the team.

Final result: 1-0 and anything but convincing.

Manchester United could set an unwanted record for their manager today. After celebrating his 2,000th game as a professional football boss on Tuesday, Sir Alex Ferguson will be desperate to get three points at Stoke this afternoon. If United don't win, it will be the first time under Fergie that they have ever failed to win any of their first five away league matches of the season.

Disagree with that, we are Manchester United, why on earth should we change to suit the opposition?

Fair enough if we were playing Madrid, Barca, Inter, Chelsea, but to clarify... we are talking about Stoke City?

So why not drop both Evra and Rafael and play Brown and O'Shea.

In fact lets keep going, Scholes > gone, Carrick in. Anderson, sorry son but Gibbo is superior in the air.

etc etc...

My point is, Rafael can do much more damage to Stoke than they can do to him.

Stupid team, another case of SAF bowing to the opposition. Gaz Nev right back, JOS in centre mid? feck me.

Probably the Sunderland tactics again, i.e no left side of the team :)

but hey, as the other Sharky said to me "Thats a bit ignorant Sharky number 2. We always change personel to suit the situation, even if we're not playing a big team. That's why we've named an unchanged lineup in the PL only twice in 3 years."

I have faith, but SAF has made it difficult a few times this season. Why is Nev playing, seriously? it's just a unnecessary risk, same goes for O'Shea in centre mid.

Nonsense. Would Barcelona make these kind of changes if they were playing Stoke? being a game for men and all.

I still think we'll win but we'd wipe the floor with them if we just picked our strongest fecking team.

Oh yeah that old one, "we don't know how they were in training".

Playing Gaz Nev is a risk, it might pay off but it's a risk, simples.

Calm down dear

Scholes absolutely dominated this fixture last year...more of the same please

Carrick was ok in midweek.

Carrick is a top defensive midfielder. One of the best in Europe. Why we aren't playing him is wrong.

I completely agree. He needs a chance to play himself into form.

In my eyes it's no coincidence we won the prem for three years with him in the team and his loss of form saw us lose it by one point last year. Obviously the defensive crisis didn't help the situation but it's still no coincidence.

I thought everyone realized O'Shea would be playing, I'm just a bit surprised it's not at RB.

Fergie really must hate the Caf - first he takes Rooney back, now he plays O'Shea in midfield :)

I have faith in the team and Scholesy might need someone to do all the dirty work to have a more kind of free role.

Stoke has one offensive strength apart from set-pieces - and that is crosses from Pennant and Etherington. With a 5 man midfield - we can limit the service they get - while having room for counters with rockets like Nani and Hernandez

I definately agree we need a five man midfield. I'm just questioning why Hernandez plays wide in that system.
