Sunderland vs. Manchester United

Doesn't Fergie trust Scholes Carrick to handle Sunderland? Surprising.

Dropping our best player in our last match or our best winger this season. Crazy is one word for it.

Erm, you seriously think Giggs has been our best winger this season? Or that Jones has been the best player against Swansea? I'm asking because the poster you quoted advocates dropping Giggs for Nani and Jones for Rafael...

I honestly think you're the only person I've seen on this board who thinks Giggs has had a good season, not that I completely disagree with you in terms of his selection for this match when I look at the bench. The annoying thing is he'll be given the 90. Don't really understand why Jones has started though, he has been pretty dire and unimaginative in his last couple of games at RB.

Nani was, by and large, crap this season whenever he played. But that doesn't seem to prevent Giggs being selected...

Half of our front six are direct pace merchants, the other half are pedestrian passers. Rooney is supposed to hold the whole thing together somehow.

Nani hasn't been shit this season, fecking hell. He's been better than Giggs anyway, that's for sure

No he wasn't he was good for the first few months of the season and then went of the boil and then got injured. He came back and had one good game and then one poor game. No one bar carrick has really been consistently good this season. Still one of our best players and for me unless he's in really bad form which he isn't should start when fit. As you said it puts more pressure on Rooney as I think the other attackers rely on the service they're getting more than Nani does.

How does Giggs continue to start games? Anyway hopefully we score early and put some pressure on City.

That's not what I've seen. People said the same thing about Scholes at the end of last season but I didn't see it then either, and I'm not surprised he's come back and played so well because I didn't ever think he lost it.

But I'm willing to admit I might not see it. I think Giggs's recent problems have been with his passing, not his running.

Scholes has been average post 60 minutes in the games he's started. On the back of having over nearly 8 months off, I'd say it's fair that he was effectively done for an entire season.

Apart form the odd game Giggs has been average at best this season. It's not a case of a dip in form, but a player running out of puff. He's done well to get to 38 but this isn't the Italian league and he isn't a defender. You can clearly see he can't keep up with the pace of the game. He'll have that odd good game or bit of class, but the for the vast majority of games, he'll be off the pace and playing catchup to the younger, fitter footballers.

Nani is our 3rd top scorer this season, and our 2nd top assister, whilst being injured for a couple of months. Not bad for someone who has had a shit season

I know you don't like Jones starting. So what's wrong with asking for our best possible team? Myself I'm only looking at Jones and Giggs. Jones won't be offering us much in this game. Giggs might. Just this season he's done it on fewer occasions than normal.

Meanwhile we have Berbatov still on the bench. Nani is on the bench as well so he's fit. Rafael is on the bench.

I'm all for the 5 man midfield so I don't disapprove of Rooney starting alone up top. For me it's really Jones starting that irks me. He's just so poor at supporting Valencia. Rafael instead of Jones = Better Valencia and that's one of your favorite United things.

I think Carrick deserves United POTY but I don't think he will get it as 26 goals from Rooney are hard to ignore.

Yeah I know, I think he gets hard done by on here. He's our best attacker after Rooney and the most likely person to be the difference if Rooney isn't stepping up.

Giggs has 8 assists in the league this season, Silva has 14 at the top. If that makes Giggs being piss poor and should just quit this instance, then I think you really are expecting too much. He has played too many matches this season, that's the problem - he needs more rest between matches at his age, but this year we haven't had too many options.

Unfortunately, people only remember about as much as a goldfish.

The only thing I hesitate about is putting Jones ahead of Rafael at RB as we need goals and Rafael frees up so much more space for Valencia in attack.

Better than Giggs, that I agree with. That's not saying much though.

Compared to the Nani of 2010, he's been poor. Injuries played a part but he hasn't been the same since like March 2011.

Good to see we're sticking by our guns and continuing with the self defeatist team selections in spite of doing so already costing us the league.

Also, is Cleverley injured, or is Ferguson just stuck in some kind of lala land where you're not allowed to play midfielders who actually make runs or fullbacks who are actually fullbacks?

You say that as if assists are all we ask from a midfielder. We haven't played well a single time he has started in midfield this season. Not once.

I can't believe anyone would ever, ever "hope" for a send-off game for Giggs.

However, I think that's just what it is. Can't see how Giggs personally believes he has much more to give apart from an incredible amount of experience, which he will offload onto future squads in a coaching role I expect.

Yeah I think he should to and should have made it in to the team of the season. But as you said Rooney will get it.

Must be lala land, PhysioRoom.com says he's not injured.

I'd still give it to Evans, 1-6 aside. Never expected him to be so consistent and good.

Nah, he is still shit, he is bullying around and those things. Caf

Some people (like Pogue) just don't really like Nani. He's had a far better season than some numpties on here are claiming. Injuries have been his main problem

Well that's not true. He started at Craven Cottage alongside Carrick :P

What's so hard about picking a functioning team with players in their actual positions?

I don't understand it. It must be by far the easiest part of being a manager. Yet we always play centrebacks at fulback and non functioning midfields when we have the players available not to do so.

That's my issue, Fergie has put himself in a position where he has to depend on Giggs and Scholes on a weekly basis because he refuses to add some quality central midfield depth while they are still around. The only thing missing is Fletcher returning and Fergie saying that is like a new signing. I'm worried it will be deja vu next season with the same midfielders, Cleverley and Ando on and off to the IR, Fletcher a big question mark and then Fergie is back playing Giggs and Scholes regularly maybe with Park in central midfield the odd game to help out...

Could somebody PM me a SopCast stream please - thanks :)
