Swansea City vs. Manchester United

our 5 games since our 6-1 drubbing

Good result but a poor match from us. We looked like the underdog until the 83rd min mark or so. Conceded very few chances which was good.

Compared to our away games last season, we are playing much better. Not as bad as everyone makes out we played today. Not a memerable one, but by no means one of our worst. Makeshift midfield, better shape once subs came on. Defence is looking stronger.

Some people are never happy aye? A nice, extremely comfortable 1-0 win away to a team who haven't lost at home for months, and who hadn't conceded a goal at home this season before today... All in about third gear.

If (and that's a big if) Swansea actually managed to score (though did anyone really fear they would after Sinclair's miss?) I think we could have quite easily taken it up a notch and got the goals needed to win the game... as it was, we were content with what we had, which was 3 points... and for that I have no complaints.

Finally, Carrick was brilliant today... would love to see his passing stats from that.

Perhaps our cavalier attitude early season with the Chelsea game and then obviously City have made Fergie have a bit of a re-think.

5 wins and 5 clean sheets later

Said before the game that it would end up 1-0, and would be another average performance.

Can't say i'm shocked. Our wideplay in recent weeks has been poor. There is far too much seperation between Rooney and Hernandez and all playing Roo in midfield has done is get him away from what he does best. Nani has been poor and needs to find his form. Carrick was good but needs to do more when the wide play is stagnant. Park for all his running is nothing more then a good defensive winger. Evra must have thought he was playing Lennon v2 because he looked second best all night. Hernandez took his goal well but can't play in a 451 (which is what we were playing for most of them night).

Boring Boring United.

i was excited by the high-pressure defense and chances we were getting from it, at the beginning of the season, but we haven't seen it since. swansea applied all the pressure the second half and we were lucky to survive it. every time we had the ball they were in our faces. if we played like that no one would have a chance against us. need to get back to that pre/beginning of the season form.

If his recent woeful form is in anything to go by then i'll pack his bags for him.

And replace him with who?? Fork out the money on a winger who may not settle for another 3 years?? He has the talent, just needs consistancy.

Couldnt watch the match does that some it up?

Think it's time for a Cafesque 'Is £1000billion layabout Rooney trying to be Cantona, only without the Talent?' thread.

Moaning feckers. We were very good at the back. 1 major chance and that was it. DDG had feck all to do. Not a great performance visually, but we looked much more assured.

Some spoilt feckers in here today. Given the international break I'll take that win all day long.

We've been playing like this for weeks now, since before the international break. Maybe we were hoping the break would have done us good.

It didn't look tonight that it did us any good. Anyway, onto the next game. We've got a good run of fixtures, definitely all winnable.

Well, we had one corner...and happened in the 87 minute. The game itself wasn't the most boring we've had this season, but for all the attacking intent there were very few chances to speak of.

The spark has been missing for a good few games now and I think having Rooney play so deep and our lack of good wing play has a lot to do with it. People might say the 6-1 hammering was a one off, but i think it has made us a lot more gun shy.

I certainly wouldn't want to see him leave but if the rumours are true and he truly is angling for a move abroad then i say let him go. The way he is playing at the moment we wouldn't miss him.

Please note that i did say the way he is playing at the MOMENT. He can be a spectacular player when he wants to be but is incredibly inconsistent.

Has he tried many long shots? I just think he's not carrying the ball enough. He's a better passer than most strikers but he needs to drive forward and remember that he's a striker. He seems to be playing like a midfielder now.

He also regularly tries the chip the keeper and more often than not he fails.
He looks like a shadow of the player who started the season.

I love Nani, but he's either knackered, off-form or making the wrong decisions. Rooney is similar, only he appears disinterested, troubled or just content to spray the ball wide from midfield and try Cantonaesque chips all day.

shuffling him around has fecked with his form...that, and getting the red card with England. Ever since that game he's looked well short of the striker we saw in the first 5 games.

Doesn't look like he's even playing as a striker for most of the games. More like an attacking midfielder...

Also... number of away wins last season - 5.

Number of away wins so far this season - 4.

This is the important thing really. It's just a bit dispiriting to have these nervy performances every week when we've been counting down till kick off for most of the week. But it's much better than last season when we weren't winning those dull performances at least.

City's tough fixtures list is round the corner, hopefully a few slip ups there and we can gain some ground. I do want to see us go up a gear though, just to showcase our fighting spirit and flair for when we need it against better opposition than Swansea.
